10/10 would recommend. I would recommend either the tasting menu (with drink pairings) or getting a sampling of dishes for the table to share.
Mabel Gray is a nice place but the food portions are small.
Fantastic food! Awesome waiter who was extremely knowledgeable about the dishes (highly recommend the chef’s tasting) and the drink pairing. Everyone was so professional and kind.
This was my third time here and I have never been disappointed with any of the selections. We ordered a couple of dishes and split the tasting menu. It was more than enough for two, and we enjoyed every last morsel. The octopus was amazing, as was the manhattan with the real maraschino cherry. This gem has become my new favorite place!
We love Mabel Gray, so we decided to bring my parents. Staff was super accommodating to all of my moms requests. We had a great time!
We celebrated my husband's birthday. We're serious cooks, so we hesitate to dine out unless a restaurant's kitchen can outdo us. Mabel Gray's staff outdid us! We've found a great place for when we're feeling lazy! Our only criticism is that it is difficult to hold a conversation due to the restaurant acoustics and volume of the music. The tasting menu with wine pairings was sublime!
The Tasting Menu was phenomenal! Food was amazing and their service was second to none. Unique flavor, taste, and experience. The dinner course included oyster, soup, lamb, scallops, just to make a few. Everything was crafted perfectly and fresh from the local farms around the state. If your an adventurous foodie that wants to try something unique and flavorful, definitely give this place a try. It’s highly recommended! It’s a very small restaurant, so getting a table can be difficult. Be sure to keep an eye on OpenTable to see the next availability. They do have a regular menu which you can order from.
The food and wine were amazing! The ambience was not what I was hoping for and was very crowded. The noise level was ridiculous and you couldn’t even hear each other speak. I
Wonderful! We had the tasting menu. Delicious and fresh and well worth it!
Loved it! Had the tasting... amazing....great drinks too! Worth the several weeks wait for a reservation.
Can't get over the fact that they kept us waiting until 10:40 for a 9:30 reservation. "our policy is not to rush the early seatings," we were told. "Well what about us, why did you take our reservation if you can't honor it"? Then WE were rushed. Poor management! Poor policies. At $120 per head with tip we'd expect much more. I am such a chump for having waited. Even the decor was poor...garage sale glasses, moose antlers and a mural of Patrick Swayze? Skip this place even if the food is good...it is far overshadowed by the poor service.
Beyond fabulous !!🎉🎉🎉The food was amazing ..the service impeccable and the noise level..beyond!🎉🎉
Max took such great care of us and the food was amazing as always!
My wife and I visited for the first time. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. All dishes were superb--well prepared and presented, interesting tastes, good variety, quite delicious. Service was very knowledgeable. This restaurant is quite informal. No need to get dressed up to experience their great food and ambiance.
Exceptional menu and service. Dinner was amazing! Background music just right. Thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommended. Thanks so much.
Much more casual atmosphere than expected.
We got the tasting menu, which ranged from oysters to a playful take on a beet salad to octopus to amazing mussels to a main course of Bison. The wine pairing was a must.
I cannot stress how impeccable the service was. Brock was amazing.
Great food and drink and very hard working staff. I was skeptical after booking almost a month in advance and was ready to be a tough critic. I had a bison burger and some appetizers and my wife had the tasting menu both options we delicious.
Thanks for a great night!
Most creative menu in Detroit metro area
Back on top. outstanding variety, great service and good value.
This was our first visit to Mabel Gray and it was so good that we made another reservation for next month before the left the restaurant. The Tastings Menu is the way to go, lots of great flavors and different foods to try. Highly Recommend.
Amazing dining experience! All 8 courses on our tasting menu were spectacular and unique. We were greeted by a very friendly host and our server Spencer was so knowledgeable. I will definitely be back.
Brock, our server, was phenomenal! Food prep and presentation was outstanding.
Tremendous experience. My second time to Mabel Gray. Highly recommend the tasting menu with drink pairing. Max served us on both visits and is a phenomenal server.
This was our 2nd time to Mabel Gray and our 2nd time ordering the 8- course tasting menu. Last time (June 2017) it was fantastic. Everything that came to the table was outstanding. This time though, a few of the dishes felt like an after thought. 1 of the courses had a texture combination that we found unpalatable (personal preference here) and 2 of the courses were extremely salty, not so much to be inedible but enough to ruin an otherwise good course.
We had a nice evening overall but left a little disappointed in the value of the meal. Maybe we just got lucky last time, paying $100 each for the 8-courses with drink pairing. This time, however we didn't feel the food justified the price.
I know the food is undeniably high quality! It's a matter of taste. Personally, I could not eat this way. I'm not a huge fish and seafood person. There was a reaonably priced seafood pasta option, a clam chowder option, an ahi tuna option. However, the Only meat option was a prime rib for 2 at $80!! My wife eats mostly vegetarian and (0) dairy. Prime rib, OUT! Mabel Gray, out too! Again, good food, just not for me.
We had the tasting menu with beverage pairing. The pairing was wonderful! Food was delicious and innovated. I felt that the portions were smaller that the previous time we were in and did the tasting menu (about year ago). Still it's wonderful and very creative atmosphere.
I consider myself a foodie and this is one of the best meals I’ve had in the last 5 years. Thank you Mabel Gray!
My expectations were pretty high going in, given that a reservation for 2 for a dinner on a Friday took about a month to achieve. The staff was super helpful in making sure my gluten free needs were met, and the wine pairings were the best part of the meal. It was a good meal. But I wouldn't wait a month for a seat there again.
Food and Service was awesome... John totally gets it!!!
Great service and greet options.
We had been waiting to try this place for a special occasion, so we made a reservation a month in advance for a birthday dinner! We decided to do the tasting menu + my husband added the wine pairings. I was worried I'd be hungover for work the next day so I refrained (light weight over here!). Each dish was very well prepared, and our server - I believe his name was Max (?) was so knowledgeable about the dishes and the wine pairings. Overall a great evening, and we will be back!
John knew the menu well and explained everything. Very personable. Excellent food, great ambiance. Yummy dirty martini. Only recommendation: blue cheese stuffed olives.😊
Great food, we had the tasting menue. Service wasn‘t too attentive (he missed the beverage pairing twice). This is my third time here, the other two times were better. Overall great restaurant that I can highly recommend.
Everything was amazing. Cannot wait to go back!
Place was all we had heard. Cocktails were fabulous, all the servers were wonderful. The tasting menu with paired beverages....oh my, so so good.
Overall great experience. We have had many tasting menu’s over the years with mixed results so the “blind” approach here had me a touch concerned but it should not have. The only item that was overly adventurous for some was the wagu beef tartar but it was excellent and the toast it was served with was incredible. Pace of service was perfect as the portions were good sized so you needed a little time between them. Descriptions of the dishes were informative but brief which is ideal. $65 for this meal was very reasonable and we will definitely be back.
The best ingredients, the best cooking, the most knowledgeable and careful wait staff!!!
For my wife and I this was the zenith of a several decade food journey to arrive at a point where we were open to feeling comfortable with a blind tasting menu and wine pairing experience. In summary the wine a day the food were nothing short of phenomenal. We had first encountered Chef Rigato at Outstanding in the Field in 2016. At Mabel Gray I was eating and more importantly enjoying foods I would have never thought I would have liked such as radishes and mushrooms. Although some food items were on the daily menu several of the wines were not and they were excellently paired with each food course. Most importantly was the order of the dishes and to put each item on the plate on each fork or spoonful - the combination of the flavor profiles was a revelation. Although the ambiance is somewhat informal the attention to detail is world class with constant additions of silverware tailored to the upcoming courses and the presentation and description of the food and wine were a highlight as well. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.
Celebrated my birthday and couldn't of asked for a better birthday dinner. Came with a group of 3 others that traveled from LA, Raleigh, and DC and all could vouch that the menu was super diverse and delicious considering we ordered everything on the menu to taste and share. Some dishes were so good we ordered another round. Our server was phenomenal and knew the menu like the back of his hand which was impressive considering the menu changes daily.
