Legendary chef Daniel Boulud created his namesake Maison Boulud to reinterpret French classics. At his downtown Montreal restaurant, artisanal Quebecois products and local ingredients are used to craft modern dishes. The fine dining setting includes a cozy main dining room with a fireplace and a view of the open kitchen, a year-round greenhouse overlooking the Ritz-Carlton garden, an inviting bar, private dinings and two Summer terraces.

We had dinner here for our anniversary. We ordered the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing. With cocktails, tax, and tip, the meal came to just short of $800. The food itself was quite good. I would say that the portions were very small. We were reassured by our waiter that the meal would be satiating, but it most certainly was not. For me, fundamentally, if one orders a tasting menu at a restaurant, one would expect to leave the meal satiated. Sadly that was not the case here. We went to Greenspot afterwards. Service was somewhat puzzling as well. The table seated next to us were celebrating a special event too. They received what looked like a special dessert with a personalized message written on the plate. Despite noting this on our reservation, we did not receive any recognition, not even a congratulatory statement. I was disappointed to see this discrepancy in service.

Disappointing meal, very average. The service was excellent and the wine pairings were really interesting but the food was very average. We took the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings. The first course was a cold soup, nicely presented but not very tasty. 2nd course Hamachi tuna with cantaloupe did not wow us, too plain, it was served with a cantaloupe juice that was delicious, we almost felt like pouring the juice on the tuna to bing up the flavours. The 3rd course was the best, the lobster ravioli was delicious and was paired well with a nice rosé. The main course was the most disappointing to the point that it was barely eatable. We had the rabbit, the loin was wrapped in a piece of the rabbit that is like a flap, when cutting the loin, it felt like we were cutting through rubber and the feel in the mouth was like rubber as well, we removed that flap and kept just the loin but it did not taste like it should, it was very mushy. The waiter asked if we were happy with our course and we were honest and said no, he offered to change our plate but we refused, we did not feel like waiting for another course. The saving grace was a small side dish of beans that was very tasty. Dessert was small, we thought that the presentation was really not great, the taste was good and the wine pairing was excellent but the size of it was so mall that we needed a bit more to truly enjoy it. So really, for the price we paid, it was too expensive for what we ate. We had a lovely evening nevertheless because the staff was very pleasant and offered a great service and we appreciated the wine pairings but we are not about to go back because for that price, we could have a better meal somewhere else.
