Maiz honors the corn as one of the most important and traditional ingredients in Latin cuisine, providing a whole new experience to the guest with products made out organic corn locally grown.
After working in Europe and some prestigious restaurants in Toronto, Chef Fernando combines healthy food with a delicious and unforgettable experience.
We seasoned our offerings taking things a little beyond the obvious.
Maiz brings a new style for restaurants in Toronto and north,"make it simple, make it good". Our food is based on fresh organic ingredients, which takes our food to the next level being the healthy and adding a delicious Latin option to the city.
The patacón and the quesadillas were delicious !!!!!!
I would recommend the maiz and fried plantain appetizers - very tasty! Unfortunately the mojitos were seriously lacking alcohol and for $13.00 I expect some. Churros appeared raw on the inside and server gave us some weird explanation that it's because the dough is made fresh and were used to frozen dough. Ugh...no - they were raw. Sent them back. Overall nice casual place with a few hits and misses.
Restaurant is small and intimate.. While you're waiting on your own food be ready to be tempted by the delicious flavors from other meals being prepared in the open kitchen. Was good on a weekday because it was not crowded
Really tasty & flavorful food! My mojito was excellent. Small restaurant with lots of character. The service was friendly as well. Maiz is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. We will definitely be back!
The Maiz appertizer is so so good. Tacos are amazing too...quite spicy tho. They don’t have a big selection of food but everything taste so so good
I really liked the setting.
The service was good. The food was fresh
but not to my liking. I found the shrimp dish so spicey that it was inedible, and I like spice. My husband’s chicken, rice and bean dish was okay, heavy on the rice and beans.
Our friends liked their quesadillas.
Great experience for a birthday celebration 🎂... Good food, great selection, reasonably priced, nice location!
The Ambiance of the restaurant is more casual than I had expected, but the food made up for it. Flavors Blended perfectly and the meal was enjoyable. My only complaint was that every time the front door opened, we were frozen by the cold air because they only have a single door. I will return to this restaurant but only in the spring and summer. While it sounds like a minor complaints, I spend my dinner which my coat around my shoulders, which wasn't that pleasant. We had tacos and a Carnitas burrito bowl and we started with guacamole and chips and a corn and cheese salad. I would recommend all of that and the Margaritas were also very tasty and just the right blend of sweet and salty.
Some of the best food I've eaten (from app to main to dessert) in a long time! Excellent service, ambiance, and music on top of it. Will definitely be returning!
Terrible restaurant. We booked this place for Valentine's Day dinner. The reservation was made in advance and so I did not think I should be worried. We were running a little late for our reservation, so we decided to call in advance and inform the restaurant of this delay. The answer we got is that "Because we made our reservation through OpenTable, we have been assigned a 1.5-hour window to have our dinner at the restaurant". I am not sure if this is standard policy for all OpenTable restaurant bookings, but it was completely new to me.
Once we go to the location, we noticed there were only 4 tables occupied with customers. But yet, we were again told that we had only 1.5 hours from our original reservation times and were placed in a cramped corner. We then ordered our appetizer and drinks and the mains to be brought a little later. Instead, all of the food and drinks were brought at the same time and placed on a table that was clearly too small to hold all of the dishes. The chorizo taco was cold. We did not get any service after that by the staff unless we had to flag them down (even for a glass of water). This was when the restaurant was not even half full and there were 5 staff members assigned to the night and all were just standing around the bar area. Finally, the waitress was extra pushy and just brought us the machine to pay as quickly as possible without asking if we wanted to try the dessert (we did actually). She stated "I have a booking in 15 minutes at 7:30 pm for this table.
My wife and I chose this restaurant for Valentine's Day dinner to have a relaxed, intimate evening with good food and drinks. But we got none of that. The place considers itself to be authentic, but there is nothing of that at this restaurant. Please do yourself a favour and avoid this restaurant.
Really tasty menu, lots of distinct flavours and caters to different dietary needs. Loved the music and drinks options as well!
The food and drinks were delicious. The service was awesome. Good job! Looking forward to visiting again. I will spread the word! Everyone should try this place😊
As always food and service were excellent. We live in the neighbourhood and this is a favourite spot. The margaritas were beautiful and delicious, and the food is always excellent. Servers are always friendly, knowledgeable, and quick even when the place is fully packed (and it typically is). Love the vibe!
Really great food and lively ambiance. Service was very friendly and nice, but a bit slow. It was REALLY good overall, I would return and recommend.
Small, but cozy restaurant serving as authentic Latin food as I have found in Toronto. My wife liked the tortilla soup, but it was a little spicy for me, served in a cup that was a little awkward to eat from, and definitely not like the tortilla soup I had in Mexico the previous week. The tacos were great and filling. Using homemade tortillas makes all the difference in a good taco and Maiz makes great tortillas. The price was a little high for my liking, but I will definitely go back.
Excellent. Exceeded expectations. Best Latin food in Toronto.
First time at Maiz having a belated birthday celebration with a girlfriend we had a great time
My aunt and I went to maiz for a casual dinner out. The restaurant was small and very cute. Exposed brick walls with art. Service was friendly. I felt like we could have been on College Street. Food was excellent. Authentic high quality Latin/ Mexican food. Going back soon for another night out!
Amazing food. Service was great, however I wished they offered the water for the table. We felt we always had to ask for the servers to refill our water
Maiz has quickly become our go-to restaurant for a casual dinner in the neighbourhood.
This place is GREAT! Will plan on going there often. Food is delicious!
This is a great little spot!! The food Is really authentic with terrific service. Whether you drop in for lunch or dinner, you won’t be disappointed... but make reservations at dinner just to be sure!
Our group of 3 enjoyed the food and drinks. Our server was friendly and attentive. The decor is cute and cozy. The only slightly bothersome thing was that it was a cold night and every time the door opened a cold blast of air would hit us! Other than that it was a great evening! Definitely will go back!
Our table was next to the front door and it was freezing. There should be a heater of some sort placed around the front door to keep the front part of the restaurant warm. I would say the temperature was really the only thing that made our dining experience unpleasant and it really is a simple thing to fix. Also, the plastic plates were really wobbly which was kind of annoying when trying to eat. Overall, the food was great and the service was also good so I would definitely recommend this place to friends. And I will definitely come back!
Delicious food, quick, great service, fun atmosphere.
Dinner for four on a quiet Thursday after Xmas. Everyone was pleased, my meal was excellent. Waitresses friendly. Music was a bit loud at first... we're all olde timers.
Everything on the menu taste amazing! Love this place
Was enticed by the restaurant due to it being gluten free in all items except the churros and burritos.
Started with chips and guacamole which were both very fresh and the corn which was not roasted ears of corn (guess seasonal) but corn kernels with some sauce in a bowl. Was tasty.. We all enjoyed our tacos. Appreciated them
making a simple quesadilla for two little ones to share.
Excellent margarita and mojitos. Topped it off with very fresh and hot churros with 3 dips. The place is small and very casual, the service relaxed and friendly and packed. Will be back.
Food was delicious. One of the few places I’ve found with great arepas.
Always great food and great service, one of the absolute best spots to eat in the Yonge-Lawrence area. Gotta bring back the vegan cheese though! :)
This is a Mexican place not Spanish place. Food is just so so.
Food is great. Restaurant is tiny but really cute. Service could be a bit more attentive. All in all, good value for money and certainly a place we will return to.
Not in love with their margaritas, but the food is always good and fresh.
Food was amazing but the restaurant is tiny! They also charged us $13 for a non-alcoholic mojito - which is the full price of the alcoholic version. Seemed a little unfair since it’s basically a $13 juice.
Delcious food , cozy restaurant. The service was really warm. I am not an arepa expert and they were delicious. I ❤️The margharita and the appetizer with fried Plantains was really good (forget the names). Nice
To see a restaurant with different (for me
Anyhow) food in the neighbourhood.
Food was amazing. Great little place with good ambiance and perfect for having an intimate conversation.
Great little place. Food is good and service is great!
Staff are always nice and the coffee is fantastic.
Great tacos and fancy beautiful margaritas! Comes across authentic.
Very authentic and delicious execution of Latin food. It is a true fusion of Latinamerican flavours.
Very plentiful and beautifully presented. The service is attentive and the location is great.
