Maiz honors the corn as one of the most important and tradicional ingredients in Latin cuisine, providing a whole new experience to the guest with produts made out organic corn locally grown.
After working in Europe and some prestigious restaurants in Toronto, Chef Fernando combines healthy food with a delicious and unfogettable experience.
We seasoned our offerings taking things a little beyond the obvious.
Maiz brings a new style for restaurants in Toronto and north,"make it simple, make it good". Our food is based on fresh organic ingredients, which takes our food to the next level being the healthy and adding a delicious latin option to the city.

Good mexican and latinoamerican food. its a small place so tables are crowded but food comes super fast and its good
Have been to Maiz several times. Definitely one of the best Margaritas in the city! There are a couple of items they have taken off the menu that I really miss - the 5 mini Arepitas with the different fillings and the traditional empanadas with the corn dough were two of my faves and I wish they would bring them back. Regardless, food, drinks and service were great. Will be back.
Food was delicious and service was great - Nice place I eat out!
Food was very good. Nice casual atmosphere. Very good service.
This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! The food was fantastic, the staff was attentive and quick. It was just a great dinner!
Maiz is excellent little restaurant; great ambiance, great food, and great services. One of our meals was a bit too spicy and they remade it with a different sauce (not on the menu), free of charge. And I can't forget to mention, their margaritas are incredible.
Service was good and food was great. Guacamole was fantastic. We all had different typse of tacos and really enjoyed them.
The reservation for 3 was done 2 days in advance. When we arrived, our table was at the end, almost inside the kitchen. Very slow service, the mojito had no mint leaves...for 11 $, there should be at least some mont leaves there. Food was mediocre, no taste, poor presentation ... only 2 waiters and one of them left at 9 pm. Not good experience. Total embarrassment if you invite friends.
All in all it was good but I was hoping for a bit more flavour! I had the adobo arepa.
We booked Maiz for a graduate dinner but the images online and the reviews led us to think it was a quieter, more refined space than it was. The food was good overall and served quickly, but the music and patrons were so loud I could not hear conversations at our own small table. Seating is limited and the decor is more rustic than elegant. The staff were friendly and attentive. I had the chicken burrito which was stuffed with lots of chicken and some beans and rice. Definitely could have used some sauce/spice or cilantro. I was surprised there were no hot sauces on the table or offered to us. Desserts were good. My wife and I had the Tres Leches cake and our daughter had a brownie and churro concoction which was generously sized. My wife and I ordered coffee with our dessert but couldn't drink it because it was so strong that no amount of milk or sugar could tame. Maiz is a great neighbourhood spot for lunch or dinner or a casual meal but not really the best choice to celebrate.
Great ambient, friendly and very good service. Food was great, and lots of options. Would recommend this to anyone, family ambient, friends, couples ambient.
Service was. Waitress was helpful explaining what the food items were as it is mainly in Spanish? Would not recommend the salsas and chips. Bowls were to small to really dip the chips in. My main was good and hot. My guest ordered the tortilla soup, wich was a little salty and not really soup consistency. She said she might order it again, but ask them to make it more liquidy. It was kind of like nachos ingredrients in a bowl. I would return.
Delicious authentic Best Latin food in the city hands down. Everything super fresh and hand made.
Maiz has been my favorite restaurant since I moved to Toronto, the food is incredible, the amount of food you get for what you pay is great, everything in the menu is SO GOOD! The waitress is always really nice and friendly to us, I would recommend this place to anybody that wants to try something different and that you're going to like it 100% sure. Last time I was there it was my birthday and they gave me a free dessert, I'm so great full and happy with everything on this place. Takes me back home.
It’s always great being at Maiz
Food was excellent and great location!
- Server ignored us when we joined our friends that had already arrived.
- Had to flag her again to order appetizers
- and again for a glass for my beer that came in a can
- and again to order our mains
- and again for a glass for water (brought a jug, no glasses)
- and again for another beer
She spent most of her time skipping the songs playing on her iPad.
Took away from the great simple food.
Good! Portions a bit small, flavour good. Hope you like garlic!
The first thing I thought after ordering three tacos was that I would have to eat another meal somewhere else right after. Portion sizes are tiny here! Also the corn bread sandwich sounded cool but the execution was terrible. It fell apart and the sauce dropped through the basket.
Wonderful experience! Friendly staff. Tasty food. Will definitely go back!
A totally surprise! LOVED it! Food was outstanding as was the service! Can't wait to go back. THANK YOU for a delicious evening!
Great food and mojitos! Nice little spot. Cozy.
This was our second time at Maiz and we'll be going back again. I need to try the Tequila flight!
Good quality food and attentive service. A bit pricier than expected but would go back. I also appreciated that there were plenty of substitutions possible for people with gluten intolerance. Only major negative is the few vegetarian options. I understand that Mexican food is more meat-centric (I've stayed in Mexico City in the past) but it would help if there were vegetarian options added that included vegetarian proteins like beans or soy proteins etc. rather than just providing vegetables and cheese.
The Elote was better than I could have ever imagined. After ordering one, we had to order another, haha! One wasn't enough. The 5 kinds of arepitas is something I would order again, one of the best on the menu and so worth it! The spicy shrimp tequila had big, fat, fresh shrimp so it was also a good order. The fried squid tacos were not very good compared to the rest of the items we ordered, I wouldn't do it again.
I visited Maiz and fell inlove with the food. Amazing flavor.
Awesome mexican food, very diverse and has lots of flavor. We will be coming back for more for sure!
Great ingredients, home-made dishes, authentic, great atmosphere, VERY friendly staff, killer drinks.
