Marvelous food, some of the best we have had anywhere in the world.
Amazing professional and warm service. And the food took me away. My first time but not the last time. Sablefish was mouthwatering and the duck was addictive.
The food and service are excellent and using local ingredients are a plus to the menu.
The Japanese and French combination never disappoint.
Great work Mak N Ming.
Food is the best in Van
But dessert is different place.
We feel we came in different cafe after eating food.
Doesnt match with food
Not good quality.
Great food and great service !
Good quality! We had the wagyu beef and it was just a bit too well done for us. We liked it medium rare. Overall great experience.
Small, intimate environment. Fantastic, innovative, and fuss free food. Staff & owners take pride in their restaurant. Would definitely go back.
Mak n Ming serves great food.
Fusion of Japanese and French.
Great environment and food.
Poor ventilation, smoke everywhere. Food way over priced. Didn't even finish the dinner due to eyes burning up.
Incredible meal. Can’t wait to go back!
Came for Valentines/anniversary and had the Chefs menu. I can’t recommend it enough. Each dish was more delicious than the last, and the attention to detail was impressive. I love that the menu changes; we will definitely come back and try a new menu!
Brilliant flavors and excellent service!
Really great experience, exceed expectation in almost every way. Chef’s menu definitely worth trying, especially the Wakyu option. Had a really nice time and can’t wait to go again! Well done!
My wife and I were unable to get a Valentine's Day reservation - understandably, the place filled up pretty quickly - but Mak N Ming made sure our February 13 date night was a magical one, one to remember for sure. We were served a delicious meal in multiple courses, dishes brought one by one to us, always together, giving us plenty of time to connect with each other in close, intimate comfort. The slow build up by means of many, MANY small, appetizing treats to a magnificent, filling main course, followed by a sumptuous dessert, left us happy, filled, and more in love than ever before! Thank you, Mak N Ming, you and your wonderful cooks and excellent servers! You have given us a wonderful night, and we shan't forget it! We'll be back - see you soon!
Came for dineout and overall the experience was just ok. The beef katsu was unfortunately too rare for my liking. The server and restaurant should let people know about the rareness of the meat in case it doesn't suit their tastebuds.. so they can consider that when choosing the mains - 1 here for me for the lack of service in this regard. The brown butter cake was a let down. It was uninventive, bland, and tasted like a muffin you would have from a cafe in the morning. At a $45 price point you would expect a better "cake" dessert option. Lastly, I had requested a booth option but was not given one even though the entire time we were dining there was a booth available. When a customer writes a request in the reservation, good service means that you would try to accommodate this. Other than that the sablefish, tuna, and coconut pudding were delicious. However, I'm not sure I would return here anytime soon.
Fantastic food and exquisitely attentive service. The environment and ambiance were soothing. Our favourite dining experience in Vancouver.
We really appreciate the care taken in the selection of paired wines. Fantastic!
Mak N Ming is definitely my favorite restaurant in Vancouver. I have here twice so far. I would love to revisit it more often.
I went recently with my husband and 87 year old mother-in-law primarily because sablefish was on their Dine Out Vancouver menu (all 3 of us are big fans of sablefish/black cod). We were not disappointed, the sablefish was one of the best if not the best we have ever tasted. It was cooked perfectly and very moist. The broth it was in was to die for. For appetizers, the choice of either warm brussel sprouts or albacore tuna tartare were also excellent and the presentation was really well done. The desserts offered for the Dine Out menu (coconut pudding or almond cake) were the perfect way to end the evening. The pudding was very light and not heavy at all, and the almond cake was the perfect level of sweetness. Would also recommend getting a side of the cornmeal bread, as it was not dense like a lot of cornmeal breads. I think our primary server was also one of the co-owners (and pastry chef) and she was attentive and had a very easy going mannerism about her. All in all, a fantastic dining experience and we will definitely come back in the future to try their tasting menu.
Mak n Ming is a lovely, quiet and small restaurant serving some of the best cuisine in Vancouver. The care and attention to every detail of prep to execution shows in every bite. Delicious and simple with it's clean flavours, yet the subtle, complex nuances and use of local ingredients is refreshing. The presentation and the dishes themselves are beautiful and the beverages pair perfectly. It is quite reasonably priced for the quality of food you will undoubtedly enjoy and you will find that you are quite satiated, not hungry at all. Yet you won't feel you have overeaten or been pushed your limits. Perfect portions with outstanding service. It's one of my favourite places to go to be sure.
It was a Dineout experience. Appie was great but entree, the sablefish was a disappointment... Dessert was decent but nothing impressive. Highly disappointed since I heard good things about this place.
Love the food!!! I’ve been wanting to try this place and glad they were part of Dine Out Vancouver 2020.
Great service and value.
Definitely will go back once Dine Out is over so I can try their regular menu
The food was disappointing given the price point. The food did not have the fine and delicate touches usually seen in high end Japanese restaurants. The sablefish was good, but should have been marinated longer for extra flavor. The beef karage was not appealing, and not a great choice for dine out Vancouver selection.
Food is very good and value for the money, service is wonderful. Just be aware of the smoking, the dining area is full of the smoke smells from the kitchen. My friends and me have cooking smells from head to foot after dinner.
Beef with foie gras is always the killer. For the Uni Ramon, I will try to make a crab Napoleon and use clear dashi instead of plain carb meat and crab shell dashi. The texture of the noodle is good. For the dessert, hazelnut ganache is too sweet for me. I will recommand some sea salt with it. The whole meal is brilliant.
This is the closest to a Michelin starred restaurant that we have found in Vancouver.
Having dined here last summer we decided to celebrate our anniversary here. Like last time, our meal was excellent. Presentation and taste was on point. Would not hesitate to recommend Mak N Ming for any occasion.
Chef’s tasting menu was fantastic.
terrible， food was just average
Amazingly creative, flavourful, and innovative food that was elegantly presented. Impeccable service. Calm and peaceful atmosphere within which to enjoy the food and conversation.
Mind blasting! Thank you for such a great dinning experience.
The best dining experience we've had in years -- inventive, superb food; warm, attentive and helpful service; great ambiance. In short, everything we could hope for in a restaurant. Truly a world class establishment.
Attended with my wife and 2 friends. Ambiance very nice. Our 2 friends who had arrived 15mins before us and had been seated were frustrated as nobody had even offered them a drink yet. It went downhill from there unfortunately. 2 gin and tonics arrived at the table with no gin in the glass, cue waiter suspiciously eyeing glasses to confirm my friends hadn't necked the gin straight! Then I tested the wine and before confirming my approval (It was actually a nice Rhone valley red) the waiter had placed the decanter on the table behind us and disappeared. I guess i'll be serving my own wine then...
On to the food, starter a beet salad actually very nice. Main course, Pork belly for everyone with a Dickensian cauliflower gruel. Pork belly horribly undercooked for everyone's taste, cauliflower gruel had a 'fishy undercurrent' to it. I thought it would be impossible for me to eat a pork belly dish and not enjoy it. I stand corrected. It was so bad my wife and friend ordered a new main course which was even worse, ramen in some horribly fishy sauce which got sent back uneaten. At least they had the decency to take it off the bill.
A cautionary note. If a seemingly superb restaurant (according to the reviews) can be booked readily on a Sat night with availability for 4 people for the entire evening, beware. Those reviews may not be entirely legitimate IMO.
World class tasting menu.
The service was very attentive with the server describing in detail all the courses and wine served with dinner. We travel internationally on business and as a result dine out frequently in San Francisco, Toronto, Los Angeles, Chicago etc. We found the food to be ok but none of the dishes Wowed us. The bill was very high for what we got. I did not drink any alcohol and my partner had 2 glasses of wine. Our bill was $250.00 with tip and tax. The room felt sterile.
Food is excellent. Service is great. Small setup so very good for conversation The only complaint is very smelly in the restaurant. Need to improve the kitchen vent. The bench is hard on the butt. Other than that, it’s a place I’ll go back.
Always delicious for brunch!!
The food was good as was the service, but sadly the ambience was not up to par. The decor doesn’t reflect the price and the lighting is abysmal; very harsh lights on the wall that left me with retina burn. These lights are the only ambient lighting ( apart from battery operated tea lights), so the overall experience was underwhelming.
Celebrating my wife and sister-in-law’s birthday. Great service and fantastic food.
Got a candle on the French toast for birthday. Very thoughtful!
