Been there before, but this time it was really bad we waited over an hour for our food. They need a new bartender because what he made for us was disgusting. Order a vodka martini it was warm not chilled at all the vodka tested awful and I upgraded to kettle one. Even the water was warm no ice in the dingy looking glasses. The food was not very impressive for what we have experienced in the past.

I never get disappointed every year when I come here for my birthday sunset dinner. Service is amazing and the food is always on point. Thank you Milelani, Johnny and Richard for your awesome attention to us. I’ll see you next year.

This used to be a place where you could go and enjoy an experience, however, it has become an expensive restaurant where they are trying to turn the table as fast as possible. The server was overworked and assigned too many tables so it felt he was always rushed. We had to request bread and never even received it. I do not blame the server as he was clearly overworked, management needs to reevaluate their staffing and the way in which guests are treated or they can plan to not see many returning guests.

Great food, and lots of allergy friendly options. Drinks were great too! My husband and I came here for our anniversary, right before sunset, and it was just amazing. Highly recommend for a nice dinner/special occasion.

Unless they change the chef I would say this was some of the worst food I've ever eaten. The waitress was very nice and attentive though and the location is beautiful.

Reservation was for 6:45pm and we got seated at 7:05pm - We ordered our first round of drinks immediately when our waitress was finally able to greet us after about 35 minutes. We placed our dinner order around 8:15pm and got our food past 9:30pm. There were many tables that got seated after us and ordered after us that got their food first. Our courses were not difficult to prepare and we checked in a few times to ask the status of our meal. After our food finally arrived, three of five dishes we ordered were cold - not even luke or warm temperate.

The waitress did as best as she could while juggling 8+ tables on her own - She even tried to find the manager to have them discuss our meal but after about 20 minutes she was unable to even locate them.

The restaurant was a very nice restaurant and quite pricey so to say we were majorly disappointed is a huge understatement.

Was a but disappointed. The view from the terrace was spectacular. The food was disappointing, 2nd steak was very tough, after first was sent back for wrong temperature. Was pretty loud, wedding party next to restaurant area was not isolated at all.

The view is incredible. Worth it. The vegetarian dish, Hearts of Palm pasta, was amazing. Would return just for that dish. Also we had the Mahi and the scallops.. both excellent. Portions were a little small for the price.

We are at the evening service 3x for the beautiful sunsets. The first night was amazing and set the stage high as the cooking was superb, steaks cooked to liking with garlic butter and a black garlic marinade and mashed potatoes. The other two attempts, missing garlic butter, lack of flavor, small portions (3 pieces of potato slice), steaks not cooked to our liking, and just over priced if the flavor isn’t there. Last night I got the blackened fish and lobster and the fish felt undercooked and flavorless. Lobster was great though.

You can’t beat the sunsets though.

Makana has an unequaled view and very good food served well. It's the north shore Kauai place for special occasions or when you want to treat yourself to an expensive, tasty meal.
They have a good choice of gluten free and vegetable options which is critical for us. Their seafood choice is limited but well done.
The several dishes which use soy sauce could be prepared with the excellent gluten free versions and thus widen the gluten free menu while still having those dishes taste the same for those who can eat gluten.

I have dinned at the Makana Terrace many, many times over the past 7 years and it was very clear to me that the level of service was no longer a part of the dining experience. Poor attitude, slow service...it was just a job to the waiter...no attention to our liking of our meal, did we need anything else, how was our trip going...definitely not the same staff as in prior years. With reservations I would recommend the Terrace today.

We ate breakfast for our Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday the 12th. The terrace itself was amazing with the infinity ponds on the edge of the balcony overlooking the most gorgeous view of Hanalei Bay. Our waiter was humorous and engaging. He was attentive to our needs throughout the breakfast with the exception of one lengthy lull when he was missing in action. We ordered off the menu and we each enjoyed our breakfast entree. The favorite at our table was the coconut French toast. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.

The restaurant definitely relies on the fact that they have a great view to sell seats. It's now a breakfast buffet, not a brunch buffet, and honestly I've had better food at a Holiday Inn. If you go, don't bother with the buffet. Just order off the menu.

So disappointed. We used to stay at this hotel and the breakfast buffet was among the top 5 ever. So booked brunch.
Location remained the same and the views are stunning and among with the good service perhaps the only thing that are still worth coming for.
They decreased the offerings for the breakfast buffet to about half. They took away the amazing fruit and juice buffet that we had raved about since last year. They took away most of the hot dishes, but just kept the omelet station and few other hot items.
The eggs benedict was not warm and delicious but dry and boring and the fruit selection mediocre and substandard for a high end hotel. Everything on the buffet was running low - even at 9 am for a weekend brunch and. It is obvious that they new ownership is looking to safe money here but this is just not acceptable to serve a low end brunch on weekend and charge $42 per person (even for teenagers). Our bill was almost $300 after tax and gratuity for 5 people, and we left unfulfilled and disappointed.

We noticed a big decrease in choices available for the buffet. Now, luckily one of the servers went above and beyond and brought my mom the waffles she had been looking for. (They were on the printed menu but not on the buffet). The front host stand was incredible as always. Great view even with a cloudy sky. Highly curated food selection now. Kombucha on tap but first time we got the bottom of the keg so it was all funky and then the second time the keg had blown and not been replaced. Cobblers should have been labeled to let customers know where they were exactly. Awesome omelet bar and now more selections to choose from.

The food was alright, nothing really special. I feel like the meal that we had here was just an average dish and was way over priced. If anything, you’re probably paying for the view. We had one really nice waiter & host. However, the food runner didn’t seem too happy to be there. When we got our smoothie, it was warm. And our food was a bit cool as well. The view would’ve probably been nicer if it wasn’t so overcast, but it was still extremely beautiful. The hotel in general is beautiful. Probably won’t eat there again unless I’m staying at that hotel.

I've eaten here many times in the past and so looked forward to taking a new couple to join us. I was disappointed in the change in the brunch set up. We had reservations for 10:30am, no one said the brunch was over at 11am. I wondered why the yogurt bowl was empty the first time i arrived to imbibe in some fresh fruit with yogurt, and why the platters of cheese, honey, and crackers/bread were sparse, and why the gal cleaning around the area seemed somewhat attentive to cleaning but seemingly not to replenishing the food. When i went back for "round two" at 11:10am, everything had been picked up and was on the back counter, away from being easily accessible for consumption. When i asked our server, he apologized and said to just tell him what i needed, and he would retrieve it, but that's not how a brunch is supposed to work, i should be able to finish my brunch at my pleasure, not feeling obligated to ask for every morsel i wish to consume. When i asked to speak to a manager, she offered the same response, that I could ask for what I wanted, but I wanted a little of everything, basically simply obtaining what i had paid for....a open "brunch". I won't be back, and in fact cancelled my dinner upstairs (for four) on the following Thursday. A shame, as i so look forward to an evening at the St Regis, and never miss it when in town (but things will have to change before I return!). So sad to see change for the worse....
