Meant to mimic an open market, the room is built of white concrete blocks creating an effect similar to the stucco seen throughout Greece. Mamakas is a nod to heritage, history and family memories – the daily trip to the market for ripe and fragrant tomatoes. Visiting a trusted butcher for fresh paithakia, and the local fish monger for the daily catch.
Recipes passed down through generations. Honest Greek fare with a modern twist. Designed to share. Everything just as Thanos’ family has done through the ages.
Amazing food (elevated Greek food that tastes absolutely amazing that comes in decent portion sizes; the dips & pita bread are to die for), fantastic service (had Lacy twice now and she’s both attentive, extremely pleasant and warm and can really recommend a bottle of wine!), and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere (not too loud but still lively with a romantic feel). Would highly recommend visiting but be sure to make a reservation.
Food is great but it is small portions for the amount of money you are paying.
We unfortunattly arrived really late for our booking due to a lare taxi but they still honored oir booking and made us feel welcomed. The staff were really freindly.
The food was good.
Had a wonderful dinner and the ervice was excellent.!
Brought in out of town guests and it was the perfect evening! Our server was very patient and attentive (especially with the wine) and all the food was wonderful.
Great restaurant with amazing food and service. The plates are shareable which allows you to try different things in one sitting.
Food and service were great as usual. They changed up the menu and it was refreshing to get a new twist on the halloumi which is a personal favourite.
Would have been nice, however, to have some sort of acknowledgment of my mother’s birthday at the table - we did note it on the reservation.
Otherwise, still highly recommended!
I’ve always loved this spot!!
Great food. The flavours of each dish was exceptionally delicious. The ambience of the entire venue was perfect; the décor, the lighting and the music. We had a wonderful time!
Food amazing and staff amazing, great time!
Superb dinner for 8 with the prix fixe menu plus a few extras. Excellent service from Lacey.
Outstanding food and service !!! I was very pleased
this modern Greek restaurant is fantastic .
Amazing great food and vibe
Delicious! Get the chicken you won’t be disappointed.
The house dips and pita bread were outstanding as well as the beet/peach salad. The grilled octopus was tasty however the portion was small. Our table for 2 was tiny and wobbly and the service was lacking but an overall charming restaurant and delicious meal. The air-conditioning was cranked way too high and many customers asked the staff to turn it down (or off!) but they said they were unable too (?). Despite that, I would go again...but will bring a sweater next time!
Good quality food although a bit pricey
Well, the servers need to learn that pushing people out is not a way to endear the restaurant to patrons.
Our server was really great and knowledgeable. I forget his name but he had a beard. He brought us complimentary glasses of champagne for our anniversary and recommended bars in the area to go to after dinner.
Excellent dining experience. Food was great and the service was impeccable.
My girlfriend and I had an amazing date at Mamakas. The food was delicious and service was excellent.
Excellent food, great service, unique wine list. Overall, a wonderful experience.
We love this restaurant. We eat here at least once per month. We are regulars. It's always good!
Exceptional food! The hot spot for dinner that’s to die for! If you haven’t been- out it on our list to visit!
My first glimpse of this restaurant was one of a low white building aglow on the Ossington strip. It reminded me immediately of being on Santorini, and invited me in. The food is simple Greek, done with a light touch and expert finish. The fish is always moist, skin crisped, with a scattering of herbs. The lamb was perfectly cooked, and the salads boasted just the right amount of ingredients, like the bean salad and the seasonal tomato side dish. Service was smart, personable, but gave you your privacy. Dining in this restaurant always puts me in good cheer, as its twinkly lights and boisterous atmosphere, form an intimate backdrop to conversation at hand. I only hope the music stays in the background and doesn't compete with the sound of people sharing their stories and maybe even holding hands...
Food is incredible! Service was exceptionally friendly and perfectly paced. This place always seems to be very busy but staff doesn’t appear stressed or panicked. Calm and beautifully bright atmosphere.
The food was delicious and the service was great. We were very impressed and will definitely come back.
The restaurant is trendy and despite being full was not too noisy. Food was excellent and can't wait to get back there
Our server was a little sour and not that friendly. Otherwise it was a fun restaurant
This was our second visit to Mamakas, and we love the atmosphere here--light, bright and casual but oh so serious about the greek food (and on the Ossington strip, one is expected to be a perfectionist in the kitchen)! We had an early reservation and they confirmed with me by phone that a 2H seating was sufficient for us (and it was), and when we got there a few minutes early our table was ready. I was with my husband and teenage son (both enthusiastic eaters), and we shared 3 meze dishes, 3 mains and 3 desserts (though 2 appetizers/desserts would have been sufficient). While some of the meze we shared were a bit on the salty side to our taste ( specifically the goat tartare and the feta dip (kopanisti) ), the spanakopita was superb...crispy, buttery and glazed with just a soupcon of honey. Perfect. For mains we shared the lamb chops (perfectly done, tender and gorgeous), the grilled fish of the day (good but very mild --to my palate it needed a more flamboyant touch with the fresh herbs and olive oil/lemon). But the real star of the evening was the roasted eggplant (imam bayildi). Really it is worth a trip just for this dish--certainly during the summer when tomatoes are amazing: the eggplant was soft, velvety and deeply savory, with sweet roasted tomatoes/onions and a lovely walnut-chili-pursulane salad. We finished off with baklava and a fantastic chocolate tart and greek coffee, and we were almost too stuffed to move (but oh so happy with our meal). Our server was excellent: cheerful, attentive, very knowledgeable about both the food (and portion sizes) and the wines (she gave us a great wine recommendation)--which made for a perfect anniversary celebration. Thanks to Mamakas for a lovely meal--looking forward to a return visit (we are craving the braised rabbit...yum!)
Loved the vibe here, great balance between chiq and casual. The food was amazing!! We had the fresh fish and a few sides and salads. The service was so so friendly! Can’t wait to come back.
Always yummy. Did give me a hard time bringing in a birthday cake. Not sure why they have that policy. Was happy to pay a plating fee.
Great food and service! It was a pleasant anniversary dinner :)
Came to mamakas about a month ago for the first time. We were in awe of how amazing everything was. Not one bad thing to say. We already went back this past weekend for a birthday/date night.
It’s our favourite restaurant! We tell everyone about Mamakas! Just make reservations! :)
The food was outstanding but our server was quite rude, which really ruined the experience. We were there celebrating a special occasion and it just seemed like she absolutely hated her job, which didn't exactly feel festive.
Food is great - excellent ambiance. For this (my 3rd time) visit, due to a last minute change in our reservation, we sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen which in itself was fine (and at times interesting. However this area is crowded and busy as it is essentially the hallway to the main seating area. This made it tough for our waiter to be attentive. Still an excellent outing but definitely try for a normal table. The salad stole the show -even beating out the always good sea bass and lamb.
Mamakas Taverna was OUTSTANDING. And our server Jamal really made it such an amazing night. He was knowledgeable, super friendly, and hilarious. He helped make it such a fun evening. The food was terrific, everything was delicious and Jamal's recommendations paired so nicely together. A really good menu for sharing plates with the group. We can't believe we've been working down the street for years and have never been here before. We all agreed we want to come back with our partners for dates in the future <3
Always so good. I dine here at least once per month. The staff is amazing. The food is the best here. Must have the octopus, steak, and whole fish.
Great atmosphere and the hostess accommodated our needs to be at a regular table not a high top. We had the pleasure of an extremely energetic table of 6 besides us which we welcomed! Nice to see families get together and be exuberant!!!
Will return soon again.
El restaurante está ubicado en un buen lugar, la decoración está bien y tiene buen ambiente. La comida es lo mejor que tiene el lugar.
El servicio amables pero muy lentos, las mesas se reservan dos veces por lo que solo tienes 2 horas para comer.
I read a review and Mamakas been on my ‘to do’ list for a year!! It did not disappoint! The lamb chops & tzatiki were the best I’ve ever had. Our waitress was attentive enough & always refilling our wine & water but we had to learn about the details of the menu items & the daily specials (including the bass that arrived only an hour before and the zucchini blossoms that were available for the first time this season) from the waiter who was serving the table next to us. He was a wiry, shorter fella with reddish brown hair - he was a fantastic waiter, really knew his stuff. The tomato salad hit the spot too, eventho we didn’t know enough to mix it in the bowl & instead ate it in sections (it looked too pretty to mess up!) but it was still good! I only wish I had enough room for dessert.
