Meant to mimic an open market, the room is built of white concrete blocks creating an effect similar to the stucco seen throughout Greece. Mamakas is a nod to heritage, history and family memories – the daily trip to the market for ripe and fragrant tomatoes. Visiting a trusted butcher for fresh paithakia, and the local fish monger for the daily catch.
Recipes passed down through generations. Honest Greek fare with a modern twist. Designed to share. Everything just as Thanos’ family has done through the ages.
A great experience again as usual. Even in a pandemic situation.
Tonight’s experience was very bitter sweet. I have been looking forward in dining at Mamakas for quite some time since I moved to Toronto. Overall, the food was fantastic, the saganaki, lamb chops and etc. was delicious.
However... the service or more like, lack there of service was horrendous. to be honest we are asian Canadian patrons and in light of everything happening in the World, tonight’s service really discouraged me in dining here ever again. Our one server, Ly was very very unprofessional. I could count the number of words she spoke to us with my hands and toes. Her demeanour in being our server was screaming reluctance and all of us could see her forced smile. We are not diseased stricken leppers, we are dining guests and patrons of a restaurant and should be treated with respect and served as you would to any other guest. We asked her what was the size of the “hand made pitas” were, for an idea on how many to order, she condescendingly chuckled at us and said “its the size of a normal pita”... not very professional. To say the least, aside from taking our order, placing dishes down, clearing plates and giving and paying for the bill, we did not get much service. We were quite disappointed with our experience as the food in itself was incredible. Quite lacklustre. I’m normally one to tip well for great service and this is the first time in my life I have left a restaurant leaving ZERO tip after dining and a few blunt and honest words to our server. That is how bad the service was for us.
Overall, I would recommend this place for food and hope the service is not consistent with our experience.
My hope is management sees this review to please enforce some sensitivity and customer service training that is much needed. As a person who has joyfully worked and served in the restaurant industry, this is disgraceful.
Thank you, Jamal and company for such a delicious and wonderful dinner!
Our waitress was excellent in recommending wine and dishes for us to try - even recommending us to get one less as our eyes were bigger than our bellies. It's hard to choose a favourite between the stuffed squid, lamb chops, cheese saganaki and broccoli, but the lamb and the broccoli were front runners - absolutely delicious. Need to return to try everything else on the menu
Delicious tyrokafteri (they have a different name for it on the menu but that's how I know it) dip. Still thinking about it days later. Definitely a buzzing and crowded space on the weekends, but the food makes up for it. Great service, too. A must try.
Real Greek food...not the Canadianized versions you see elsewhere. If you have the food culture...don't water down..there is no need. Mamakas is the place for Greek food in Toronto. The service person was amazing food was perfect.
If it was closer to home it would be our local! Always delicious and fun.
Good place for just the two of us or with a group.
Amazing food and equally amazing service!
We sat at the bar, service was amazing. Probably some of the best Greek food we have ever had! Paired with a really nice bottle of white wine. Will be back for sure!
Every dish we had was exceptional. Fresh food, prepared perfectly, outstanding flavors, textures, aromas. And reasonable prices. We'll be back. If you can't get reservations, you might be able to sit at the kitchen bar and watch the chefs - that can actually be more fun!
Everything is delicious 👌🏻👌🏻 The only thing to me it’s quite noise, the music in the background it’s too loud... besides that everything it’s great !!
best greek restaurant in toronto. attention to detail, excellent quality
Took my boyfriend here as her has never been before. One of my favourite places on Ossington. Excellent food always and service. Will be back soon!
Service was excellent- best we have had in some time. Food was delicious- we ordered a number of dishes and shared them amongst four of us. They did a good job of advising on appropriate portions - just enough for everyone.
Dips were a bit over priced however - only negative but it was outweighed but all the other positives.
I have been twice now, once with my boyfriend and once with my family. Both times were amazing. The food is delicious and you feel like you’re in a little restaurant right in Greece. The wine is Greek as well so we got to try some that we wouldn’t be able to anywhere else necessarily. Definitely give it a try!
Exceeded our expectations! We sampled a number of delicious menu items, and all were outstanding. Quality of service matched the quality of food!
Brought my Mum here who previously never had Greek food. She loved it!! Really tasty food, great service, our server was fantastic!! overall fabulous experience
My anniversary of my birth.
The waiter was very friendly, the service was super fast and the food was excellent
The food quality was not up to my expectations. Octopus was cold and burned, the beef was cold and hard. The waiter was distracted although restaurant was not that busy.
I don’t think the flavour palate resembles the flavours of Greece.
The decoration is very good and music selection as well.
Tasty casual meal with a good pal at the Bar.
Client meeting out of town.
Amazing food!! Great service!
Quality food, fresh ingredients and great recipes makes this place special. Will certainly come back:)
Portions are becoming smaller and prices are increasing. Food quality and taste is still good.
Outstanding food & service as always
The lamb chops are a must!
The lamb was unreal, as well as the drinks. The ambiance and lighting were very comfortable, and the noise level was also very tolerable, as I was able to hear the person I was with clearly without struggling. Great service!
Waiter was extremely pushy on us to buy more food. I felt very cornered by him. Also he refused to give us one of the items in the menu that I had the half size just last month (2 lamb chops instead of 4). I won’t go there again. Very cheap mentality.
Excellent food & service.
The food wasn’t great. But dips and pita were to die for. Drinks were very well made.
Bonus: They were incredibly sweet, they provided 2 glasses of champagne for our anniversary complimentary.
Fantastic Service, host.
Our mains were very delicious and flavourful. The Melitzanosalata dip blew my friend and I away (I still dream of it). I was disappointed that the Saganaki was not served in flames. The apple and beer sorbet was no good. It tasted like apple puree baby food. I never leave food on the plate but I couldn't make it past 2 bites.
Server did not ask questions regarding choice of flavor palate
Great spot for authentic greek food! Its on the pricey side but you definitely get the quality-worth.
Great food, impeccable service-as always! Always love eating at mamakas.
The best Greek food in Toronto. Have the eggplant dip , lamb chops , Greek salad and saganaki Highly recommended meal with amazing service
Lovely food and experience! We have been a couple times this past month and will be back again soon. Thanks
Food and Ambiance is very good. Always busy when we have visted, that is a very good sign.
