Mamakas Taverna is an elegant 85-seat Greek taverna on Ossington Ave. Owner Thanos Tripi brings a fresh, authentic approach to Aegean food, offering classical Greek dishes against a contemporary canvas. Each plate is thoughtfully crafted to evoke the way Thanos’ grandmother cooked, inviting guests to explore the Greece he grew up with through food, art and music.

Meant to mimic an open market, the room is built of white concrete blocks creating an effect similar to the stucco seen throughout Greece. Mamakas is a nod to heritage, history and family memories – the daily trip to the market for ripe and fragrant tomatoes. Visiting a trusted butcher for fresh paithakia, and the local fish monger for the daily catch.

Recipes passed down through generations. Honest Greek fare with a modern twist. Designed to share. Everything just as Thanos’ family has done through the ages.

Mamakas is a stawart in serving interesting, creative excellent Greek food. We had their amazing selection of dips with pitas that were divine. The Spanikopita was heavy on the filling and light on the phyllo - almost a savory, crunchy spanikopita donut with a glaze of honey - delicious! I am never disappointed eating at this restaurant and our server was very helpful and clearly loved the food at the restaurant. A very good sign :)

Managed to book a table at the last minute and loved everything about Mamakas. Sat outside on a beautiful night and really enjoyed the tasting menu that they had available. Food was outstanding, service fantastic and overall a very cool vibe. Highly recommended.

4.7/5.0 - second bisit, tried the prix fixe , great value and truly a no brainer The starters of Greek salad( proper no lettuce) was fresh and olive oil was very high quality Both dips shipped feta and Smokey baba ganoush complimented the starters ( and mains) along w the Greek version of falafel. The mains consisting of lamb chops( not my thing but my date commented how good they were and he is also a foodie The other part of the main was grilled octopus which is one of their signature dishes. I can see as it was cooked to perfection — not rubbery and the accompanied tapinade ekrvated the taste and was extremely pleasing. Our server Johnny , knowledgeable, understanding made fora great dining experience If you like authentic Greek food combined with owners background combination of several of the smaller islands, this is the place to visit. This is why this is a staple in my go- too restaurants Great job Johnny and Chefs!

We loved our experience at Mamaka’s! We needed to make our table of 4 for 5 the week before our reservation and they were able to accommodate us and offered to help in any other way that they could. We have been coming here for the past couple years and the food and atmosphere never disappoint! The only thing I would say that is maybe a downside is that the entree menu is a little limited for veggie options, but the appetizers have a good amount if veggie options to make up for it. Will give it a 10/10 always!

Good food, although portions were somewhat small - you need to order a few appetizers + mains to leave "full". Nice selection of greek wines. Overall, good atmosphere. Service was a bit slow and required constant reminders.
