Meant to mimic an open market, the room is built of white concrete blocks creating an effect similar to the stucco seen throughout Greece. Mamakas is a nod to heritage, history and family memories – the daily trip to the market for ripe and fragrant tomatoes. Visiting a trusted butcher for fresh paithakia, and the local fish monger for the daily catch.
Recipes passed down through generations. Honest Greek fare with a modern twist. Designed to share. Everything just as Thanos’ family has done through the ages.
Mamakas is so delicious - amazing service and the food tastes just like it does in Greece. Highly recommend the Saganaki and the lamb!
Everything was amazing! Will be back soon hopefully!
Best Greek food I’ve had.
Delicious food - a bit expensive. No real complaints.
Excellent food, very pleasant atmosphere. Our server was excellent and took great care of us.
Excellent friendly staff. Wholesome yummy food with a very decent authenticity to the cuisine.
A fantastic location with a warm and cozy ambience. Great food, wine and cocktails, we’ll definitely be back!
The food here is incredible! And the service is good too. Some spots of the restaurant could get really loud due to close proximity of other tables, but it's not unbearable.
You can’t go wrong with Mamakas, the quality of the food is top and tastes like heaven!
Food was coming out too fast. We were enjoying sitting at the bar and chilling, drinking and eating and our time slot ran out. Felt rushed out but otherwise the guys at the bar were awesome and we had a great dinner overall. Cocktails 👍
Everything we ate was really good. 100% consensus however not 'wow!'. Probably my 5th visit so definitely a fan. Wines (all 5 bottles ;-D) were very good and paired well. Best items: lamb chops, sea bream and smelts. We'll be back.
Fantastic food and attentive service
An amazing place. Greta service, atmosphere and fantastic food!
Very good and modern greek food! Really interesting cocktails and fresh takes on classics.
We've been to Mamakas Taverna three times, and each time has been terrific. Favorites are Tzatziki to die for, Keftedis, perfectly cooked lambchops, superb grilled octopus. The wine list is always authentic. If you need a breath of the Aegean in the middle of February, then this is the place. If you want to ease into a summer's evening, this will do fine as well.
Time limit of 2hrs, disappointing food (everything's salty) and too loud. Maybe good for younger crowd who enjoy this type of atmosphere who doesn't mind mediocre food.
Restaurant was small but nice, lovely decor and energetic staff. Ate as a post theatre supper and didn’t disappoint. The Menu was small but the right size, the Greek authenticity was fantastic on not just the food but the wine menu. Food itself was great, but came across more as Mezze style rather than the starter / main vibe on the menu. This was illustrated when all 4 dishes came as one, portions sizes great but a little too much olive oil for my liking. Would definitely go back if I was in the neighbourhood but wouldn’t necessary head across town - although the Oktopodi (BBQ octopus) took me straight back to a Greek Island and was to die for!
Great dinner. Sea bass was tasty and well cooked. Potato side fantastic. Horitikia salad tasted fresh and loved the Spinach and Feta phyllo. Always love coming to Mamakas!
Amazing. Mikey was great!!
server was so great. food was amazing
Service was great, octopus wasn't the greatest but the potatoes made up for it.
Service and food is always on point. The prices though are quite high. 1 starter. 1 side. 1 meat main. 1 veg main. 1 glass of wine. 1 beer. $130
Overall a very nice experience. Been to this restaurant multiple times. Service is very good; friendly and informative with right amount of time spent at table side. Ambiance is enjoyable as well. The food is generally very good with a salt issue. This time it was over the top; we could not eat the deep fried spelt and Eagean red mullets due to over the top use of salt. Also as a suggestion; this is a greek restaurant and one expects to see good quality Uzo /Raki/Arrak but only have basic stuff with aniseed (the stuff that goes white when you add water) - LCBO has plenty of this sort, any of the Turkish or Lebanese ones would do. We will be back and always recommending the place
Great place. Been here many times. We sat at the bar for the first time. Service was fast and attentive. Each dish is done properly. Ordered the rib steak medium Chicago and the it was good. The chef even came out to ask if it was done properly! This is our go to place for the past few years.
Awesome!! Great food everything was done perfect and in timely manner.
Day after Valentines Day. We tried to book for Valentines Day three weeks in advance but we were not able to find a suitable time
This is the second, recently opened, "tapas" inspired "traditional" Greek restaurant I had dinner at over the last few weeks in Toronto (is this a franchise or what?). On the positive side, both restaurants had good food and atmosphere. On the negative side, both restaurants were overpriced and had a terrible wine list of Greek wines only. None of the ones offered at Mamakas are remotely interesting, yet these $10 to $15 bottles are sold starting at $55 and over $200. For that price I can get a very nice California Pinot at almost any other restaurant in Toronto. Not at Mamakas. If you enjoy a good bottle of wine with your expensive Greek food, avoid Mamakas.
The food at Mamakas was fresh and interesting, and the atmosphere pleasant. Our waiter was competent and genial, but he clearly had instructions to get us out of there ASAP. Consequently, we were rushed. Second courses arrived before the previous ones were eaten. And the bill arrived precipitously as a sign that dinner was over and it was time to go!
We had an awesome dinner as usual at Mamakas and our waiter was a lot of fun! Great night as always!
My great experience with the restaurant started before I even stepped foot inside its doors. I had made the reservation for a different day tan I had intended and upon discovery called ready to grovel my way into a weekend, fully booked time. The person on the other end of my call gracefully manipulated the books and my cred was reestablished without anyone ever noticing it may have been compromised. Once I arrived at the restaurant, Jamal was fast to greet and offer coat check and then continued with the friendly and cool, unpretentious hospitality. I trusted his specials...went for the large fish (whatever it was...he made it sound delish), consulted on the add-ons (eggplant dish- YUM, and roasted potatoes- double YUM), and conceded for the best item of all, the app size fried smelt....So good. Their version of an 'Old Fashioned' was a smokey upgrade.... true to the form, with just enough of an edge to make it au-currant. The food was great, but I'm used to that. Jamal on the other hand was a delight. That's what stands out when considering other Ossington hip joints- Mamakas delivers the family style hospitality + cool vibe....and you can't beat that combo!
Great food, eclectic menu and tasty cocktails. Fresh food perfect for sharing. I looked the ambiance! I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good meal.
Great atmosphere. Food is very fresh. Staff is friendly and provided great wine and appetizer recommendations. Was there for a friend's 65th birthday celebration. She had not been there before and loved it. Highly recommend it!
First time visit. Wonderful experience from start to finish. Our service was knowledgeable, professional and polished. Food was delicious at every course. Looking forward to my next visit!
Music was way too loud.
Server kicked us out after 2 hours.
Yet we spent $150.00.
Service was excellent and the server worked well with her colleagues. She was very knowledgeable about menu and was bang on about sea bass recommendation
The food was great and the portions very nicely sized! Really liked the atmosphere ... obviously a very popular spot on Ossington! Would definitely come back.
Fish entree came to the table cold and not properly.
No follow-up by a manager to express awareness or smidgeon of empathy. I wasn’t asked how well cooked I wanted my lamb chops and I found their ‘standard’ too rare.
We have been several times before and everything was quite good. But on this night, the food was just ok and they ‘came off’ with an attitude that was disinterested at best.
I don’t care for how close tables are together or their execution of unisex bathroom. They’re trying to make best use of a very small area. Perhaps it’s time to leverage their success into a larger venue.
The bartender knew his stuff - great food suggestions and could answer any of our questions. The service staff was very good and impeccable - flawless service ! Hands down will be going back
