About Mamakas Taverna
Mamakas Taverna is an elegant 85-seat Greek taverna on Ossington Ave. Owner Thanos Tripi brings a fresh, authentic approach to Aegean food, offering classical Greek dishes against a contemporary canvas. Each plate is thoughtfully crafted to evoke the way Thanos’ grandmother cooked, inviting guests to explore the Greece he grew up with through food, art and music.
Meant to mimic an open market, the room is built of white concrete blocks creating an effect similar to the stucco seen throughout Greece. Mamakas is a nod to heritage, history and family memories – the daily trip to the market for ripe and fragrant tomatoes. Visiting a trusted butcher for fresh paithakia, and the local fish monger for the daily catch.
Recipes passed down through generations. Honest Greek fare with a modern twist. Designed to share. Everything just as Thanos’ family has done through the ages.

Mamakas Taverna Ratings and Reviews
Heard great things about this place. Definitely lived up to expectation. Food is simple but delicious. Server was very knowledgeable. Busy little spot with good reason!
The waitress is professional to explain the wine and the menu. The food is very tasty. Unfortunately, they set too many tables. It's too crowded and it is not a good place to talk. The washrooms are smelly and small can't fit people who is fat.
Great food and excellent service! Great for all types of occasions 😊
Great place for sharing plates, well-seasoned food and crowd pleasing.
Great ambiance, clean lines, excellent food, attentive and welcoming service
The only complaint I would make...the space between the tables causes the server's behind (although very tone) to be over one's dinner plate or close to one's face. Must stress that our server was excellent!
Birthday dinner at our favourite Greek restaurant! The food never disappoints and the flavours are memorable!!
The restaurant left me a voicemail the day before my dinner telling me my seating was for 2 hours, but I could extend it (they didn’t say how long for). When I called back to extend it, no one answered and the only option was to leave a voicemail, which I did, saying I wanted to extend the seating. I didn’t hear back, so I asked when I first arrived at the restaurant. They told me I had an additional 45 minutes. If this is how they want to arrange their seatings, they should let people know at the time of booking. In general, I really dislike when the first thing a restaurant tells you is when you have to leave.
The service was so-so. We asked for a recommendation for a bottle of wine and the only recommendation she gave us was for a $100 bottle of wine. At that point, we couldn’t really say no. We didn’t have anything else in mind - that’s why we had asked for the recommendation. In my opinion, a good server would give you at least two recommendations, with different price options. Instead, we were pressured into spending $100 on wine.
I had heard great things about this restaurant, but , in my opinion, they seem to be quite full of themselves. I would not go back. I prefer less pretentious.
The food was TERRIFIC and our Server Christina was Fab-u-mun-do
Our server was excellent, food delicious as always. Happy to see them so busy on a Wednesday in February! Great neighborhood spot. I highly recommend
My favorite restaurant in Toronto. Unbelievably delicious!!!!
Excellent food and service. Was able to get our reservation increased from 2 to 3 in a small restaurant which really made our night. This restaurant has never disappointed.
great ambiance, great menu, food quality has deteriorated over the past year. I would hesitate going back.
Amazing service!!! The server and the bussers( food runners) were very attentive! Amazing wine!! The wine was delicious, the server was hesitant to sell that wine at first maybe the price seemed a bit high, not sure but the wine made us very happy. The food was cooked right. Complex flavours done with simplicity and meats cooked well. The garlic sauce reminded me of my childhood as the flavour was bang on to my favourite fried chicken eatery in Saudi Arabia. All in all a definite repeat. There was a bit of noise but not at all bothersome. Loved the casual feel with spots of sophistication!
My favourite restaurant.
Went for a girls dinner. Neat and hip atmosphere. Was good food, cocktails were ok, not my favorites. But the food alone would bring me back.
A little $$$ for the portion sizes.
Overall a good dinner. I’d go back again.
Just thought pricing of some items a bit steep, like the cheese starter , salads and tea. Waitress was very pleasant and attentive and gets full marks. Food excellent. We will recommend you to friends
Loved it, as usual. Great service, wonderful room and the food was outstanding!
The staters, the mains, the dessert, the wine and the aperitif, not to mention the service, were all excellent
Excellent as always; food is incredible and atmosphere is well lit and exciting
If you're looking for a high end Greek restaurant, then look no further, cause this is the place.
My parents, wife and myself shared a bunch of the appetizers and each got our own meal and loved every bite we took.
Fantastic time. Celebrated our anniversary. They can be a bit cold if you don't have a reservation. We still came back, with a reservation, and are very thankful. Server was a huge help sampling the Greek wine list to find something we liked. Food was very well done. Well executed, well seasoned, we were stuffed.
The food was so delicious! I wish I went with more people so that I had more options to share. I wanted at least half of the menu! The service was great, our waitress was lovely and was so kind to surprise me for my birthday. She also could answer any questions we had about the menu. We're moving to Mississauga but wish I had gone here more in the time that we lived at this end of Toronto!
I love Mamakas! Honestly the best food and service in Toronto. I cannot say enough great things about this place !!
I've been here many times and it's always great. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. I'll be back...definitely.
Good drinks, Good food, nice ambiance. Just a little bit pricie for the size of porcion they serve.
We didn’t find the food special... nor did the diners sitting next to us. It was very salty and poor value.
It could have been a better experience if the hostess was welcoming.
Our server was very sweet though. P
Exceptional food and atmospher, the dips were amazing and very good drinks.
It was a great meal from start to finish. Our waiter whose name is David Fish was fantastic.
The staff were very friendly and highly knowledgeable about the menu as well as side pairings. This is one of our favourite restaurants in Toronto.
Have been here a few times and it is always amazing. From the food to the service they're always on point.
Good but extremely expensive. $200 for 2 people and didn’t order a bottle of wine. Just 2 cocktails each and food.
This was our second time, and we were not disappointed. The food was outstanding!
Been to Mamakas a few times and absolutely love it. The ambience is great and the food is fantastic. A bit pricey but worth it. Only thing is, the staff can sometimes be a bit stand off-ish/rude. However I continue to go because I’ve also encountered great staff & love how their menu changes so returning patrons can try new things. Definitely recommend making a reservation well in advance.
Second time here and not our last. This is my favourite restaurant in Toronto. Perfection!
Exceptional food cocktails and staff. By far best Greek restaurant in Toronto
Amazing! 10/10 good job. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Most definitely some of the best Greek food we have ever had. The staff was courteous and professional and the ambience great fun. We will tell our friends about this great Greek experience.
Excellent food. Amazing appetizers. A bit on a pricey side and staff made us feel they were on a rush to provide next seating. Took food away before we were completely done with our meals. We had reservations and were very mindful of how busy the restaurant was on a Friday night. A very good corporate dinner ambiance. Lamb is to die for.
I like the ambience and decor especially the glass exterior walls which allow you to see in. Noise is often a strain in restaurants but here I found the level never passed more than a pleasing buzz. The menu seems diverse but we realized once we got our food that cheese or dairy is used in most of what we ordered. I'd be cognizant of that next time. Tarama and lamb chops were the standouts of a delicious meal. The service was attentive, efficient and friendly. We'd go back!
