Meant to mimic an open market, the room is built of white concrete blocks creating an effect similar to the stucco seen throughout Greece. Mamakas is a nod to heritage, history and family memories – the daily trip to the market for ripe and fragrant tomatoes. Visiting a trusted butcher for fresh paithakia, and the local fish monger for the daily catch.
Recipes passed down through generations. Honest Greek fare with a modern twist. Designed to share. Everything just as Thanos’ family has done through the ages.
Loved the vibe here, great balance between chiq and casual. The food was amazing!! We had the fresh fish and a few sides and salads. The service was so so friendly! Can’t wait to come back.
Great food and service! It was a pleasant anniversary dinner :)
Came to mamakas about a month ago for the first time. We were in awe of how amazing everything was. Not one bad thing to say. We already went back this past weekend for a birthday/date night.
It’s our favourite restaurant! We tell everyone about Mamakas! Just make reservations! :)
The food was outstanding but our server was quite rude, which really ruined the experience. We were there celebrating a special occasion and it just seemed like she absolutely hated her job, which didn't exactly feel festive.
Food is great - excellent ambiance. For this (my 3rd time) visit, due to a last minute change in our reservation, we sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen which in itself was fine (and at times interesting. However this area is crowded and busy as it is essentially the hallway to the main seating area. This made it tough for our waiter to be attentive. Still an excellent outing but definitely try for a normal table. The salad stole the show -even beating out the always good sea bass and lamb.
Mamakas Taverna was OUTSTANDING. And our server Jamal really made it such an amazing night. He was knowledgeable, super friendly, and hilarious. He helped make it such a fun evening. The food was terrific, everything was delicious and Jamal's recommendations paired so nicely together. A really good menu for sharing plates with the group. We can't believe we've been working down the street for years and have never been here before. We all agreed we want to come back with our partners for dates in the future <3
Great atmosphere and the hostess accommodated our needs to be at a regular table not a high top. We had the pleasure of an extremely energetic table of 6 besides us which we welcomed! Nice to see families get together and be exuberant!!!
Will return soon again.
I read a review and Mamakas been on my ‘to do’ list for a year!! It did not disappoint! The lamb chops & tzatiki were the best I’ve ever had. Our waitress was attentive enough & always refilling our wine & water but we had to learn about the details of the menu items & the daily specials (including the bass that arrived only an hour before and the zucchini blossoms that were available for the first time this season) from the waiter who was serving the table next to us. He was a wiry, shorter fella with reddish brown hair - he was a fantastic waiter, really knew his stuff. The tomato salad hit the spot too, eventho we didn’t know enough to mix it in the bowl & instead ate it in sections (it looked too pretty to mess up!) but it was still good! I only wish I had enough room for dessert.
El restaurante está ubicado en un buen lugar, la decoración está bien y tiene buen ambiente. La comida es lo mejor que tiene el lugar.
El servicio amables pero muy lentos, las mesas se reservan dos veces por lo que solo tienes 2 horas para comer.
It’s one of the best restaurants in the City. You will never be disappointed.
we really enjoyed our dinner. The food was excellent and the service was very good. Well done !
At first, we were late 18 minutes and our table reservation was cancelled by restaurant as they had tried calling and the number on file was wrong. We finally got seated at the bar and enjoyed a great meal. Service, food and wine were great!
Food was great, but if you've dined at a Greek restaurant before, you'll feel strange about paying for pita bread when you normally would get that for free at another Greek restaurant. Or for paying double for the dips compared to other fine Greek restaurants. Overall a good experience, I'm glad we tried it, but value wise, not a place I'd pick to frequent too often.
Food was delicious and the waitress was outstanding! The only downside was the hostess! We were seated at a table and asked if we could move to another table. The person that seated us checked the computer and said it was fine. Our waitress was letting us know the specials when the hostess came over interrupted and in a loud and abrupt manner told us we'd have to be done by 7pm bc a group of 5 was coming in and they'd need our table. She made us repeat that we understood we'd need to be done by 7. It was very humiliating way to be treated. We had finished by 6:30 and they had seated a group of 2 on both sides of us long after we had arrived. So not sure what the unfortunate interaction was about.
It was a great meal. Food was fantastic and service by Jamal excellent.
Just great all around
Everything was great from food, service (Jimmy is awesome) to ambience. However, I found the wine per glass (I think $18) very expensive.
We're not easy to please, and expectations were high based on a recommendation. Our high and difficult expectations were exceeded, which is so nice (and rare). Great ambiance and space. Cool location. Changed a reservation for 4 to 2- no issue. No attitude. How can we help you... Menu is not your typical steam table for Greek. It's higher end, with very thoughtful and interesting fare. No souvlaki here, which is great! House dips(tzatziki and melitzanosalata) with house made pita were terrific. Mediterranean sea bass was perfect for two, and was perfectly cooked. Delicious greek salad, and very interesting Halloumi cheese (summer alternative to Saganaki; I don't normally eat rhubarb, but cleaned the plate- it was that good). And then across the street for Bang Bang ice cream! We'll be back! Thanks!
The food was very good and they have retsina, which was a nice surprise. However, the place is always busy and very noisy, so it’s hard to have any type of conversation.
Our server was amazing, food was incredible. Intimate vibe with a trendy atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!
Ever had 5 meatballs the size of your thumbnail for $18? Very noisy, very cold, tiny costly servings, server forgot some of our order. Won’t return. Shame because it’s a cool spot.
Mamakas is always great. Bar seating is more fun and bar staff are very attentive ! Food is always amazing, there is no doubt about it. The lamb was top notch. It becomes a regular dinner spot for me !
Delicious fresh and authentic Greek food. We opted for a selection of sides plates instead of a main dish each and glad we did. Got to try the dips, octopus, salad, keftedes (meat balls) and Greek fries. A bottle if white and we were fully sated. We will be back.
Had a great meal and lots of fun. Have the dips and the pita bread. Yum. Can't wait to go back.
Enjoyed our night together but found the air conditioning and fans were extreme. Unfortunately blowing on our food and cooling it down a little faster than normal. Will be back but with a sweater or jacket next time when in the summer.
The orange wine was superb.
We had a great time and the food and service was great
Love love love
The food was good. A bit pricey but okay. The one complaint would be the washrooms. A restaurant that costs $200 for a party of 2 should not have such filthy washrooms. Aside from the fact that washrooms are too small to pull your pants down (the washroom give you a bit of cluster phobia and this I also heard from the table sitting beside us) they are not even clean.
Overall good and the food is very nice.
Octopus was a bit tough
Greek wines were phenomenal
Lamb was succulent but a small portion size
Another excellent evening at Mamakas. The atmosphere is excellent - bright and well-decorated and the food is very good. Chic Greek!
My boyfriend and i have been coming here for 2 years now and this past Friday was no different - Impeccable expérience as always -fresh and delicious!
All of the food was delicious, the portions were perfect and the service was just right.
Delicious food and good service. I wish the acoustics were a bit better since hearing what everyone was saying was a bit challenging.
Another enthusiastic recommendation from server at hotel. He doubted we could get a reservation for Saturday night. When we said we could only get seats at the bar he said that’s good, it’s the best place. He was right. Watching the action close up and interacting with other customers was a great part of the night. The food here is exceptional. Great quality and generous serves.
Our server helped us with some items with which we were unfamiliar and helped us to ensure we did not over order. We had taramosalata (refined elegant version) served with pita, smelts, perfectly cooked lamb cutlets, spanakopita (interesting spiral version). More than sufficient quantity. All this washed down with assyrtiko from Santorini. This was our most memorable Greek meal since the Greek islands. Great service and reasonable cost. Great value. Very highly recommended.
Very good starters. 3 our of 4 of us had the expensive fish. All 3 of this found it a little dry. It was over cooked. Greek wine list was very good.
Great atmosphere. Love the open concept of the kitchen and bar.
We had a great meal at Mamakas. Every bite of food is delicious. We especially enjoyed the taramosalata and the lamb chops. It's upscale Greek food at good prices. Food and service were excellent
Love the feel and the food was great though the mussels were only ok. The one thing that bothered us was the waiter referring to the next reservation with regard to choosing food. We knew we were the 1st seating and didn’t like the feeling of being pushed 1 full hour before our reservation was up.
Great evening! Delicious food, terrific service. Very attentive
