In the heart of Houston’s Montrose neighborhood, MARCH Restaurant is an intimate Mediterranean restaurant from Chef Felipe Riccio. Serving both 6 and 9 course tasting menus, we study the gastronomy, history, and cultures of the region to answer the question:

“What is Mediterranean cuisine?”

After many years of personal and professional exploration of the Mediterranean – including extended stints at three-Michelin-starred Osteria Francescana and Azurmendi –Felipe has brought this spirit of exploration back to his home in Houston.

The word ‘MARCH’ signifies an area of land on the border between two territories; a frontier between realms. The menu is the team’s love letter to the Mediterranean where we will explore the unique, layered evolution of its many connected cuisines, with beverage pairings/selections artfully curated by partner and Master Sommelier, June Rodil, and the acclaimed beverage team.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Felipe Riccio

From the OpenTable editors: Chef Felipe Riccio trained at top restaurants like Italy’s three-MICHELIN-starred Osteria Francescana, and that pedigree shines at March. In an elegant, art-filled space, Riccio delights with a rotating six- and nine-course tasting menu spotlighting a new Mediterranean region each season. Past dishes included paella with lamb chorizo and sweetbreads, paired with luscious wines and the restaurant’s signature herbal-infused vermouth.

Everything is executed to perfection at March, the service, the food, the vibe, knowledgeable staff … though we only did the Lounge last night, it was perception. Hopefully next week we’ll be talking about how March now has a Michelin star/s!

This is the restaurant that gives Houston’s fine dining theme a bad reputation. So much effort was put into making each dish look good on photo, so little care was put into combining the right flavors with textures. With 9 course exploration menu, I got bored and wanting to leave by course 6. This restaurant has the right venue and a compelling story, but is missing core to any restaurant- good food. What a disappointment!

As fabulous as March has been in the past, our visit to the foods of “Genova” was not memorable in numerous ways. We expect, what we hope to be a Michelin Star restaurant, to be impeccable in service (3 of 5, 35 minutes to get started), staff appearance (2 of 5, sloppy collars and ties), as well as the crafted , delectable dining we’ve enjoyed in the past. Of our 6 courses, 1 failed (cod undercooked’, 1 was mediocre flavor (meat course), & 4 courses excelled to the expected gourmet quality we repeatedly have enjoyed in the past. The waitstaff was exceedingly informative, but a bit quick to explain, as we had to stop and slow them down to hear and understand the complex and innovative pairing of flavors. Still 1 of my top 5 restaurants in Houston, but I can’t wait for the next iteration , and to leave their interpretation of Genova behind.

Finding plastic wrap in my mouth on the first bite—covering the entire surface of the fish—was an unacceptable oversight for a fine dining restaurant. It ruined the entire experience, as I didn’t even get to taste the caviar on top. To make matters worse, the only response from the staff was to offer us a glass of wine we hadn’t asked for. While I didn’t expect an explanation from the chef, it’s surprising not to receive one in a situation like this. It is a basic standard in fine dining, and I remained silent as I tried to enjoy the time with my friend. The server simply suggested a replacement, which I declined. I wasn’t looking for apologies or free meals, but a serious kitchen error like this warrants at least a partial refund or comped beverages. It’s disappointing to leave a restaurant unsatisfied after paying nearly $600 for two people. Aside from this incident, I genuinely believe they have the potential to be a great establishment with some improvements. This was my third visit, and I often bring friends and visitors who enjoy the ambiance. However, despite my hopes, the food has consistently fallen short. The snacks and appetizers are more creative, while the mains often feel poorly executed. The ingredients may be interesting, but they lack the cohesion and finesse expected in fine dining. I wanted to give them another try, hoping they’d finally nail the experience. Sadly, it feels more like an imitation of fine dining rather than the real deal.

An amazing experience but food was uneven. Service was exceptional, and the wine pairing, which we shared, was also very good. Some of the food items were outstanding, but a couple were meh, and one went unfinished as it was not very good. Hoping to try again when the menu changes-worth finding out what the menu "theme" is before booking.

Absolutely above and beyond my expectations for service. Each person we interacted with was kind, polished, and so great and attentive. We did the 6 course discovery menu, and I appreciated how committed March was to ensuring our gluten free diner was comfortable, and any meals that were not part of the normal course were still very eye catching and well done. They made our anniversary very memorable.

As always, March dining is subtle, delicious, and sublime. The s, cuisine offerings were wonderful, and the staff are attentive and very informed. They are an important part of the best dining experience we have had in Houston, if not anywhere. We always look forward to the next visit adventure. Thanks for another great evening.
