The food was delicious. My dining partner has been to Morocco and said the food was very authentic. The cocktail I had was meh. There was a large group dining in the middle section of the restaurant and they were loud, hooting and hollering. The acoustics of the room made it difficult to hear the person sitting directly across from me. It made what would be an enjoyable, relaxing dinner one where we were kind of annoyed and hurried to get out of there. I’ll likely try this place again for takeout because the food was so good, but the dining environment is not one I want to go back to.
Couscous dish had no flavor and we never received our appetizers.
Great food and service. The ambience is also quite calming with the dim lights and warm tones.
Delicious food and they happily accomodated a "plus one" for my reservation. While the drinks and food service was a little slow, it didn't much matter to us as we were there to celebrate a birthday with friends we hadn't seen in months. It was a lovely, leisurely dinner and we had a great time. I suppose if you wanted to just quickly dine, it might be an issue? We will absolutely be back when we're back in town.
One of my favorite places to dc. Great food and lovely staff!
Very mediocre. Food was bland, and the cocktail was watered down. Service wasn't great either.
I'm a big Moroccan food fan so this was a bit of a letdown. The lamb tagine was not tender and infused with broth from slow cooking for hours and it had a brown sauce that was not like any Moroccan dish I've ever had, either in Morocco or elsewhere. The salmon tagine was dry and again did not appear to be slow-cooked in a tagine. The lubia appetizer was just beans. The pastilla was out alas. Honestly, my home-made tagines (slow-cooked in a real tagine) are much better. It was, however, a good date location. Nice cozy decor with good spacing, lots of fezzes, huge blue teddy bears out in front to keep you company, and very attentive and helpful servers. So I guess it depends on what you are looking for. And certainly inventive chefs are not bound by the traditions of their cuisine. But if you enjoy the taste of slow-cooked meats stewed in turmeric/ginger/cumin/preserved lemons, maybe not the place to go.
Service and ambiance were great, I had the couscous with veggies and wish there was a bit more to it, but overall good place.
Generally good food, fine service, attentive staff.
Excellent N. African/Mediterranean food. The pastilla was marvelous, as light and delicious as any we've had in Morocco. The tagine is another perfect choice, but everything we sampled was well prepared, fresh, and enjoyable. A welcome addition to the DC food scene.
Went for a Sunday brunch and ordered chicken pastilla and a Moroccan tea - absolutely delicious and worth its price. Got a terrible server (African woman), who almost ruined the experience but another server/busser (Moroccan man) jumped in and offered an excellent service - thank you! The venue is lovely - both inside and outside, and I’ll come back for dinner for sure.
Charged for a black coffee refill without notification from waitress
Service was good. Employees are very nice, but the food is just okay. Also, they were out of a lot of things… my main, my drink, and one of the apps for the table weren’t available… and we were there at 6:00p. We were the second seated table for the evening, so it wasn’t at the end of the night where’d you might expect the kitchen to be out of something.
OT & Mekki are always Fabulous & make you feel at home !! Thank you !
Great food, great ambience, chef is very helpful!
Gorgeous, comfortable outdoor seating area. Food was delicious and staff was very helpful and welcoming.
Going to Mekki is always an incredibly beautiful experience from start to finish. I first went there in their opening week, well before the pandemic, and have now been numerous times. I decided to go there for my birthday celebratory dinner, and they set up an extended table for 10 people outside in their beautifully decorated tent. The staff are always an absolute joy to interact with, from the reception, to the servers, and to Cici who runs the plays and is a delightful host whenever she is there, which is very often. It feels like you are being transported to Cici's personal living room in Morocco. There always seems to be a core of beautifully dressed highly fashionable people who look like they may be from the Morocco part of the world, that also provide a perfect beautiful and polite atmosphere as well. The food is delicious. I typically recommend the eggplant dip starter, but I also recommend the beautiful cheese-filled puffs (?), and the tomato and cucumber salad that are just tastier than one normally gets elsewhere. The skewers are delicious, but the unmissable dish is the beautifully rich lamb tagine, which a sauce rich in dates I think, amongst other things. The menu isn't very large, but the plenty of delicious options, including couscous dishes. This place is a little treasure in Capitol Hill that we are so lucky to have. They are right next to the new Spanish tapas restaurant (Bodega) that also seems to be part of one larger warm and welcoming family.
They didn’t have my first two orders at the bar and the service was slow. Food when it came was something I could have made myself and I’m no cook. I don’t really hold the staffing situation against them but the food wasn’t worth going back for.
Authentic food that was very good. Blame covid for subpar service, but otherwise lovely place. The lamb tagine was out of this world.
Great restaurant! Great food! Authentic Moroccan food, and the mint tea was phenomenal. Excellent experience and will be back! Highly recommended.
Morraccon food is delicious at Mekki! We like restaurant week.
This restaurant has a nice ambience and what I would assume (since I’ve never actually been to Morocco) to be authentic Moroccan decor. Upon arrival, I would say that the hostess could’ve definitely provided better service. She was not necessarily rude, but she was very less than pleasant and seemed annoyed with our presence. She also say us at a high table after our reservation was for standard seating, and also sat us in a very clustered area that was uncomfortable for us to sit at since pulling out the chair would hit the patron sitting next to us. However, one of the servers saw this issue and immediately guided us to the correct table which was standard seating. The remainder of the night was GREAT! And other staff were also great in every possible way. The food was also great and the portions were well worth the money. I definitely want to return and try more menu items.
Service is slow- most popular items were sold out. But we had a good time
Their liquor license expired that day and they weren’t able to renew in time. So they didn’t have any adult beverages available. They did however call everyone with a reservation to let them know. The service was great. The appetizers we had, including two salads were very flavorful! But the 3 entrees we ordered all lacked flavor. We were all very disappointed with the entrees. Their dessert was great!
Really friendly staff and delicious food!
Appetisers were good. However, main course was not very authentic Moroccan, so bit disappointing.
Amazing. Simply beautiful food with a wonderful staff. Felt like a part of the family.
Good experience. Casual and easy.
My absolute favorite Moroccan food I’ve ever had outside of Morocco! Would 10/10 recommend.
I was so underwhelmed by the service and quality of the drinks and food. I liked the starter dishes but everything downgrades there. My waitress kept us at our table for an extra 2 hours more than we should have been. Drinks were watered down. And the main dish I had… oh let me tell you, not flavorful and potatoes were not cooked. All being said, not worth breaking the bank. Maybe I was just there on a bad day?
Great Moroccan food. The pastilla and the lamb were delicious. The Mekki Amber Ale was fantastic. Great ambience.
We went here for my birthday this year. The ambiance was lovely and the food was phenomenal. It immediately brought back memories from my trip to Morocco and all the lovely times I had there. I have never had lamb so wonderfully tender in my life!
Great place to be. We enjoyed our Iftar and dinner. Othman did great job serving us. The food very tasty and my wife and I will come back again. Five stars 🌟 for this Moroccan restaurant and we will recommend it to friends and family members. Thank you 🙏
The food, location and venue were great. Very tasty Moroccan food for a fair price.
Amazing up and coming Moroccan restaurant, with great ambience, absolutely delicious food and the most welcoming and courteous staff! Will definitely be back.
Our server was very knowledgeable of Moroccan cuisine and wine, which was fun to learn about! Very flavorful, clean food.
Love everything about this place! Food is always excellent and the staff couldn’t be nicer.
Good lamb tagine and was glad that Mekki had some Moroccan wine, which was yummy. Would love to hear some “modern” Moroccan music instead of club music. Ambiance was so-so. Missing seeing the beauty of Morocco. Maybe some large photo murals or textiles would help. Great grilled shrimp appetizer. Chicken with couscous: chicken was delicious but couscous wasn’t too flavorful. Overall, a place to go when I need some Moroccan food! I’ll go back!
Beautiful restaurant, AMAZING food. As someone who’s traveled to Morocco multiple times, this place is legit. Friendly staff, great atmosphere!
Not the best outdoor set up (no heaters or blankets) but the food was good and it will be a nice place to dine out come summer
