Really nice dinner before a theater performance at the Shaw Festival. The Lobster Miso Soup was intriguing but a wee bit disappointing in terms of flavor . . . though it was still very tasty with an appropriately theatrical presentation. I had the more expensive sushi plate of premium nigiri. All of it was excellent, with the scallop being one of the best I've ever tasted. Worth every penny! My partner had one of the maki and was impressed and pleased, but perhaps not quite as much as I was with my nigiri. I let her eat a couple of pieces as compensation . . . and she agreed with me about the excellent quality.
Excellent food, very good service (especially with menu choices- very knowledgeable about ingredients of each dish) would definitely recommend and return
Our Server very helpful explaining how 'hot' the side dipping sauces would be and offered substitutes to improve the enjoyment of the pairings.
This was our first time trying this restaurant and we were very pleased with the food. Everything we ordered from appetizers to sushi was fresh and delicious. we will definitely return.
Fantastic quality sushi and great addition to NOTL for locals as well as tourists.
Incredible food and service. Best sushi we’ve ever had...so, so good.
This restaurant is a gem. We have been coming to Niagara-On-The-Lake for many years. We were quite excited to see that sushi was now available. It was terrific. We’ve had sushi all over the world. At Masaki the fish was fresh, the cuisine authentic. The staff were helpful and friendly. Will definitely return.
I eat Japanese food on a regular basis. This place now ranks as one of my favourites. The key ingredient here is freshness. We shared a sashimi platter of 21 pieces (7 varieties, 3 pieces each). The selection was inspired and not what is usually served in the southern Ontario market place. There was no hint that any of the pieces were every frozen on their way from the ocean to our table. Tenderness, full flavour and perfect texture were all the result. Nice selection of roles and the Karaage was perfectly crisp with no excess oil. Same can be said for the tempura assortment.
Staff are attentive and eager to please. Great find in Niagara on the Lake which generally boast a strong food scene.
Fairly small restaurant below street level, where the food is the star. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and compare favourably with other restaurants in the area. We felt the lighting was a little harsh on our Friday evening visit (more subdued lighting might have helped to create a more cosy atmosphere), and the ambience was a little quiet (we booked an 8.30pm table). But then genteel Niagara-on-the-Lake isn't really a late-dining kind of town! The skill of the chefs and the service from the hosts were both excellent.
Was in Canada for a unexpected get a way with my husband and we love sushi
This place was a cute little gem tucked away the food was great and the server was very good and informative will go back again when in Canada
We wanted a local restaurant with great food. The town was one of the loveliest places on earth. The area’s landscaping, neighborhood, and quaintness offered a fabulous way to spend a day. The service and food was top-notch.
Everything we had here was first rate. The sushi was very fresh and we got to try some fish we haven't had before. We don't eat shellfish, and when we asked the waiter if the chef could make us a sushi plate without any of it, he smiled and said, "Kosher! Sure!". So if you avoid shellfish, don't let that stop you from coming here!
Food is always fresh and done perfectly. Chef Kerry and Chef John want to please you with their expertise. Service is great especially if Yoshi is serving you. Thansk Yoshi!
Wonderful food and service!
The outstanding reviews for this place are all 100% correct - it is one of the finest sushi restaurants I've ever tried. My partner and I went for lunch and loved it. The service was excellent, even too attentive! (leave my wine bottle alone lol!) The fish was incredibly fresh and the chefs are there in plain sight as they prepare everyone's dishes. The regular miso was the best I've ever tasted. The lobster miso was fairly rich and not for the faint-hearted. I would not hesitate in recommending Masaki to anyone in the Niagara region.
Excellent sushi. It does get booked up, so reservations are important. My only minor quibble is the water they serve, which has a bit of a chemical taste. Otherwise, it's an excellent choice if one is going to the Shaw Festival Theatre, as it is very close.
Very fresh raw fish direct from Japan twice weekly and good service
The best Japanese style restaurant I've ever been to.
Great food and drink and good advice on those. We'll be back!
Nicely varied menu, with enough options to let sushi lovers and the sushi-phobic eat happily together.
Some of the freshest sushi I have ever had. Much of it (all of it?) is flown in from Japan and they have some unusual items on the menu. Superb!
Excellent meal - very fresh sushi! Servers were also very nice and prompt. Definitely recommend! One thing to note is that there are not too many vegetarian-friendly rolls (although they were accommodating and made a cucumber + avocado roll).
Great service. Restaurant is underground and we were seated in a back alcove which feels claustrophobic. Great accommodation of vegetarian diet.
Visiting Niagara-on-the-lake for our anniversary, Masaki was the perfect place to celebrate! The sashami dinner was out of this world - so fresh and delicious. I can't wait to visit again so I can have dinner here again.
Have the Ebi Mayo small plate! Get 2!! Delicious!
Great sushi place almost a 5. I rarely rate anything a 5 but this was very close. We loved it
Best sushi we've ever had. Truly outstanding.
Beautiful presentations, very engaging atmosphere. The food was very fresh and tasty. The interior was a simple Elegance that paired very well with the food decor.p
This was hands down the best sushi we've ever had. So incredibly fresh and delicious. The tuna tartare was perfect! And our waiter was phenomenal. Will be back time and time again!
Service and food was excellent but slightly disappointed by the lack of a change table in the bathrooms!
Best sushi we have ever had, will definitely be going back.
Especily enjoyed the soft shell crab & oysters. Wine selection is limited but well priced. Excellent, well timed and knowledgeable service without being intrusive.
If you're a sushi lover this place is worth trying!
Fabulous food. Top notch. Super fresh. Service was perfect. A real gem.
This is an authentic experience with food prepared skillfully as you watch. Interesting menu that offers good variety but does not overwhelm!
There is a short list of options but everything that we tried was delicious! We hop to return and try the chef special meals. It is relatively quick dining if you are on the way to the theater.
We dined at Masaki during our friends’ get-together in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It appeared that most of the restaurants were either wildly expensive or definitively mediocre or worse. Our friend shave visited Japan at least seven times and, with a Japanese relative, are quite sophisticated about the cuisine. They just raved about Masaki’s food and we enjoyed it as well. Our server was beautifully attentive. The entire experience was excellent and at a reasonable price!
Food and service were both excellent! Will definitely return for another meal!
The service was great and very quick. The food was delicious and portion sizes were very reasonable. We got four rolls to share and it was plenty of food for two. Would highly recommend!
This was our best meal so far in NOTL. Service was excellant and the food was well prepared. A quiet refuge from the summer crowd on the streets of NOTL. We made a dinner by ordering 4 small plates and one sushi roll. I would definitly eat again at this restaurant.
The food is very good and is quality, however, disappointed with our service. We had to flag our server down several times to order more
