    Superb salads, coq au vin, duck, and profiteroles. Attentive, courteous, helpful service. We were able to converse normally without resorting to yelling that is often necessary in today’s restaurants. A touch of France in SF

    Great neighborhood restaurant featuring French cuisine. We're looking for a replacement for La Folie featuring typical French dishes. I would rate them better than Bistro Jeanty which we regularly eat at in Yountville. Wonderful tarragon shrimp and beets and feta appetizers. Duck confit and salmon mains were also great. Duck was tender and falling off bone. Desserts were terrific too. We will return with family and friends

    A bistro with a typically French menu. We enjoyed an outstanding bone marrow and tasty escargot together with a delicious butter lettuce salad with meyer lemon dressing to start. The duck confit was not as crispy as hoped, but still delicious, and the accompanying potatoes fried in duck fat were exceptional. Nice wine list with a range of styles. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive.

    As always, perfect meal to celebrate surviving a tough week! Delicious food, great ambiance and Lina always makes the meal feel personal! It is our go to place for so many reasons… and my young kids love it too…

    Mathilda is a charming restaurant with excellent service. I have mixed reviews on the food. The scallop special with mashed potatoes and cream sauce was very delicious. However, the ribeye special (for $55 ) was the thinnest steak I have ever seen in my life. It looked more like a pancake, then a steak. The bone marrow special was way over salted, and the escargot had almost no garlic flavor at all.

    Had a terrific pre-theater meal here on Bastille Day. As soon as we let the Maitre D know that we were going to the theater, our order was taken quickly, and our food arrived promptly too. Our server, Eva, was fantastic, and the food was super delicious.

    Great meal from start to finish. Special boeuf bourgignon ravioli were incredible. I could taste the love in the duck confit and the tarte tatin with some pommeau Normandie for dessert made for one of the most enjoyable SF dinners I’ve had in recent memory.

    Servers don't communicate. Several times we were asked the same question, in which we would say someone was already here. Menu doesn't match the on line menu. Planned this restaurant for husbands bday based on menu. Steak was ordered medium rare and came rare. Owner, which we didn't know was the owner came and grabbed our bottle of rose to serve us and we thought someone was stealing our bottle..we were startled. Several times we would watch the server he would would quickly grab table checks dropping check and or credit card on the floor, service was not the greatest. Constant hurry, why the rush in a place like this its the little touches, and it just looked sloppy. Finally at the end they squeezed in my husbands treat for his bday, instead of making it a memory, its as if they forgot but threw it on the table. For the money that was spent, 200 check, service was terrible. Food was so so.

    Loved this place. Completely authentic food. Interior is unpretentious but we loved that. Many years spent travelling in France so we know the real deal. Service was lovely. We liked it so much, we made a reservation for the following night!

    Our absolute favorite French bistro in San Francisco! Impeccable southwest French cuisine in a delightful setting, attentive but not hovering service, excellent wine list. Good for pre/post-theatre dinner or a relaxing SOMA experience. Always on our SF agenda.

    Service at this restaurant was fantastic! Everyone was very attentive: filling waters, our wine glasses, bread, plates, etc. The owner came and checked in on us. Food was five star all the way and they were very accommodating with leading a split plates. I highly recommend this hidden gem!

    A cute little bistro offers excellent simple food. Their potatoes is to die for. Wines are reasonably priced. I would go check this place out again and highly recommended this gem who lives near there

    Overall the food was just a big let down. Everything we ordered was just mediocre at best. Order bread that tasted cheap. I have had better quality from Costco. The cheese plate was just meh, only the blue cheese was good. The beef bourguignon and Coq au Vin was good but nothing special. The portions were big. For dessert, we had the Profiteroles which were filled with ice cream. The puffs themselves were tough and dried out and the ice cream was not great, lacked any flavor or creaminess. For the price level of this restaurant, I would have expected more. I found the meal bland and much of it comprised of cheap store bought food. I will not be going back and will not return.

    The food was delicious and the service excellent. It is nice to go to a restaurant with a friend and be able to hear each other speak, while still feeling like there is happy activity all around. Mathilde is a good option to sister restaurant L'Ardoise - both classic French Bistro fare and atmosphere. The neighborhood around Mathilde is a little less cozy than L'Ardoise but if you are in downtown/SOMA it is great to have such a good option nearby. We will be back.

    The restaurant was WONDERFUL!! We weren't ever going to go back as we were not comfortable in the neighborhood, but then we were seated and the restaurant space was warm and welcoming, delightful and charming, the staff worked in beautiful harmony with each other and treated us exquisitely. The food was delicious and they listened to our requests and took care of us from start to end, right when we said we needed to leave to make it to the opera in time. Merci beaucoup wonderful little french restaurant! We WILL be back.

    An oasis of fine French cooking in an unlikely environment. Welcomed by a knowledgeable person who was supportive of the wine choice. The soupe à l'oignon was one of the best that I've had in years and a favourite of mine, confit of duck perfect and the pommel landais delicious. Some refurbishment of the interior would not go amiss but that is a minor quibble

    This is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food was incredible, the service was above and beyond, and the ambiance was perfection. I have never eaten a better meal in my life. The people who worked there made us feel cared for. I do not live in this city but I want to return to return only so I can eat here again.
