My wife chose MICA for her birthday dinner since it had gotten good mentions on Facebook about their bar menu. We used to go there when it was Crush and were excited to see if MICA was as good. It’s not. I must say that the staff is very friendly and service was great. They comp’d my wife’s birthday dessert too. It went downhill from there. It was pork night for our family. We started with the Apple Glazed Pork Belly appetizer. Four 1 1/4” squares ($16) that were nicely cooked but , while the flavor was unique, were not anything I’d order again. My wife and I not ordered the pork tenderloin that came with corn hash and fried Faro ($30 each.) It came sliced into medallions on the plate. Mine was unevenly cooked and and the first three medallions were dry like overcooked chicken breast and there was a hard crust that would not yield to my table knife. The meal came with a small crock of sauce that the server poured over the pork. It was tangy and salty and I would have liked it better on the side. The corn hash was on the same plate and the sauce invaded that as well. The hash was ok, consisting of corn, peppers, seasoning, and two small thin rectangles of fried potatoes. Again, nothing I’d order again. My wife and I love Faro, having been introduced to it at Rustic at the Coppola winery in Geyserville. The portion of Faro was very generous and came on a side dish. My wife’s tenderloin was cooked much better than mine and she didn’t get as much sauce, indicating to me that they may have been trying to hide the dryness of mine. She said that the pork itself did not have a lot of seasoning and was a little bland. Our daughter ordered the pork chops which she said were nicely cooked but were also bland and could use seasoning. The cucumber salad and rice that came with it were bland as well. She said the salad was the best part of her meal. We ordered the Yuzu cheesecake for dessert. It was dry and grainy and a real disappointment. We’ll go back for the bar menu.

5 Star Review For MICA! All of my experiences at MICA have been Fantastic! I have been very fortunate to enjoy several meals at MICA! Our servers, Brian and Dominic very professional and attentive. They presented themselves with confidence and attention to detail. The first night, I enjoyed ribeye which was prepared to perfection. The smashed potatoe had just the right amount of seasoning. I fell in love with the street corn! Including an opportunity to taste the braised bison ~ truly mouth watering! Let’s not forget dessert. The apple tart was deliciously paired with homemade rum ice cream. Another occasion, the apple tart was accompanied with horchata ice cream ~ just as delicious. At our next dinner, I enjoyed the miso street market fish with the perfect texture that practically melts in your mouth and was complimented with garlic mashed potatoes… My opportunity to try items from the bar menu was just as pleasing. They serve one of my favorites ~ fried brussels! My most recent & a very special night was Wednesday March 6th! It was my 60th birthday! Thank you Chef Alan for the best experience! We started off with specialty cocktails from the bar. The Mixologist has come up with some very creative works of art! Roederer Champagne was served we began making our dinner selections. This time the street corn was prepared like I’ve never seen it! Rather than a slice of corn on the cob, it was cut in long strips with a slight curl to it. Amazing! The bison cut was on the rib bone ~ very good! We also enjoyed the pork chop which was served with woven mashed potatoes. Wonderful meals!! Chef Alan could have chosen many places to start his dream as a chef after his MICHELIN Star training, but he decided to begin his journey here in Ukiah! I encourage our community to support this young man’s dream and embrace his culinary skills. Broaden your palate, tantalize your taste buds & try someplace new ~ make your reservations Today! Waiter was very pompous acting. We opted for NO before-dinner drinks and he behaved as though something was wrong with us that we wanted no drinks. Our meals were mediocre. My husband’s buttermilk fried chicken was absolutely tasteless and only lukewarm. The buttermilk coating had no herbs or spices whatsoever. It had a lot of coating on it - like KFC - except totally tasteless. My duck was cold and very dry which was odd given it was duck confit. Both meals had been served on UNHEATED plates, then set on stone-cold slate chargers, which just sucked out any remaining heat from the food. My husband left behind 2 of his 3 pieces of chicken and I ate less than half of my duck. We complained to the waiter about the COLD food and he proceeded to go “talk to the kitchen.” He came back later to tell us he’d talked to them but provided no offer to reheat the food, replace the food or compensate us somehow — nor did he apologize. Clearly MICA wants to be the best, upscale place in town, but they have a very limited no way to go, starting with mastering how to keep the food hot from kitchen to table

Advertised as American cuisine on OpenTable. There were 4 appetizers on the menu; none of which had any connection with the menu as a whole. For example, naan bread served with puréed squash to dip it in, or Mexican street corn. These and the other two are completely out of place in an American cuisine restaurant, with little to no relation with any other menu item, or restaurant theme. The service was poor. We were abandoned by the hostess. When seated, rolls were served sans butter. One salad option on the menu, but you are forced to have it served with an avocado and balsamic dressing. As to mains, protein options were limited to steaks ranging from 45-75 dollars. These are advertised to be served with “pressed potato”, which I assume is a classic French technique, not American cuisine. I did not have the steak, but understand from some who have that the steaks are thin, and not as described on the menu. No vegetables are apparently served with the steaks. There was an Asian inspired pork chop dish, and an Asian fish dish with a bizarre confit tomato. I ordered the roasted Cornish game hen. I was served a plate which had 2 very small game hen drumsticks without any thigh, and two split breast lollipops which were as small as the drumsticks. This comprised the entirety of the protein on the plate. The drumsticks and breast lollies were arranged in a fan shape across the plate. There was no roasting sauce underneath the meat. In between the protein pieces, the chef placed one-half of a roasted fingerling potato. Beneath the protein-potato arrangement, the chef placed 3 roasted spring baby carrots. To be clear, there were 4 bites of protein, one mouthful of carrot, and 2 small fingerling potatoes cut in half… for $35. The chef was attempting nouvelle French cuisine, a style that went out of vogue by the early 1980s. It was poorly executed. No sauce on the plate. Unseasoned, overcooked meat suitable for a chihuahua. Avoid.

Valentines dinner was very good and was glad to see special men, candles and red roses. Service excellent. However, it should not have taken 1 hour+ from appetizers to eceiving entree. See TripAdvisor for complete review.
