Seven nights a week, live local bands take the stage at Montreal’s hottest live music bar and bistro. Modavie’s spirited setting encompasses two intimate floors and sets the scene for a night of great tunes and top dining . The bistro’s far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef, duck and inspired pasta dishes.

I have been to this restaurant before, never had a problem, service was excellent, this time I decided to come back and try it again to show my family how good this place was, I was actually disappointed. Service took forever, our waiter never checked up on us, we had a spill, and after 20 minutes, he still never checked up on us, other than the tables around us. Food of course, was excellent, just the service brought down the experience of the whole restaurant
We celebrated my birthday at Modavie on a Sunday night, with two teens and an aunt, everybody enjoyed the music (wasn't too loud and we sat next to the stage). Food and service were excellent, I would return to Modavie!
Very nice staff, ambiance, and food. Can see why it is difficult to get a table at an hour that’s good. Had to slip in and out before the music. Do recommend it, but book early.
Food is ok, ambiance is great.
Table de hôte may need a little more refining ( great appetizer, subpar main dish , excellent dessert).
Place is noisy during live shows, but expected for jazz .
Nicely located. Like all restaurants in Old Montreal difficult to park. Nice Jazz music on the second floor where we went.
Their main specialty was the lamb of which I chose the Rosemary lamp chops. My wife ate the mussels with French fries. We had thought though that they were great but not to the level of Modavies expectations.
Not a lot of affordable wines but still a great selection ranging from $59- over $150 a bottle. The service was super and the music pleasant.
Live music great (was a blues trio/quartet), attentive service, food was prepared well. Cocktails were creative but on the weak side. We keep coming back here each time in Montreal because we like the vibe.
Our 26 wedding anniversary
Come for the food and stay for the music. We heard a great blues band during and after our meal. Excellent wait staff knew just the right balance between leaving us alone and and being attentive. Will come back for sure next time we are in town.
One of the top 10 meals of my life. Lamb Chops! Great atmosphere, excellent wine recommendations.
May Buena comida
Lovely Saturday jazz brunch. Good selection of dishes. We had a window table. Jazz duo was an excellent pianist with a very
lively electric violin. Music varied from classical to klezmer. We enjoyed our experience and would return.
Service good, food mediocre, jazz band good but too loud
I went for my anniversary, had a very enjoyable evening. I enjoyed how everyone would applaud after the musicians were done performing a song, I loved the slightly more rustic atmosphere, and every staff membered that I encountered greeted us with a big smile and made us feel very welcomed.
Great restaurant, nice atmosphere with great food and service.
Noisy but food and service excellent. Loved the wine selections. I had a very tasty Rioja
Good place in old town. Bigger place than I thought but nice. JaZz player was very good. Not loud so very easy to have conversation
Food was good. Only issue was service. As soon as we got there we were told to be done by 8:45 for another reservation. Fine but service was so slow it took longer. We were waiting for bill and told 2nd time about next people. Delay was servers fault not ours.
It was ok. Good service. The food was nothing to write home about. Good solid bistro fare. A little over priced but it is in the Old Port.
I would for the atmosphere, great service and fun. Not for the food. I had Penne Pasta the pasta was not cooked, it was not even el Dante and it was cold. My boss had the same problem and she had the same as me. My Caesar salad had no dressing on it. My husband and his friend both had the chicken it was bland and the potatoes were cold. On of our friends with us had the muscles loved them!! They were deliscious. We did not say anything. We still enjoyed our evening and loved the music and atmosphere.
We were so pleased with our meal on Wednesday night that we made a reservation to go back for Saturday night. The onion soup was delicious, the smell and taste of the bread made us think we were back in Paris, and the two salads that we had for our dinner entrées were large and exceptional. The service was excellent. The ambience was very nice. Highly recommend it.
We booked a table for 7pm on Sunday evening and it was full so glad we booked. The staff were all very friendly, the food and wine delicious and the live music was great. Good lively atmosphere without being loud, would recommend for couples or groups.
We ate here when we were visiting Montreal and my dad was in town from Texas. The location and ambiance were great. I had the special, which was sea bass with plum topping, and it was good but not terrible exciting. My boyfriend had pasta which was a bit bland but he enjoyed. My dad had a wild boar dish which was the best thing on our table. We had a maple pecan tart for dessert which was salty and good but again not very memorable. The service was excellent.
Food was very good. Service was slow. Server had too many tables. After meal was ordered the server did not check in with us to see how everything was, including if we needed anything. We had to ask one of the staff clearing tables for more wine. Then I had to go to the Maitre D to ask for our bill. Again since the meal was very good, since the service was poor, this unfortunately dampened our entire experience. Not what dining should be.
Amazing thank you for a great time!
This is a very rare negative review from me.
The wine a Crozes Hermitage was excellent. The waiter knowledgeable About the wine list the two piece jazz duet was great. The food was a big disappointment.
French onion soup arrives barely warm the first time and not much better after we sent it back to the kitchen and it was returned.
The mussels were ok except for the ones that were bad as in tasting awful there were a few. Both the mussels and the fries arrived barely warm the fries very unappealing.
The rosemary lamb chops also were barely warm. They really had no flavor to speak of but the were medium rare as they should be. The melange of vegetables had 4 large baby corns, also unappealing to me. The waiter was apologetic but did nothing for us. Thanks to the excellent Syrah and the music and the very hot tea it was t a complete disaster
Come for the atmosphere and the jazz. Don’t come for the food.
Food and drinks were great. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. The live music was awesome.
Great experience. The waitress was good however could have been more attentive in regards to extra drinks.
great experience. the service, food, and music was awesome
This restaurant and its live band were seriously the highlight of our trip. The food was amazing, great ambiance and the live band was really great, adding to the truly awesome experience. I loved this place and highly recommend for anyone’s trip to Montreal.
Great food. Server had many tables. Would go back though!
This was a great little spot. We were lucky enough to reserve a table on the earlier side which meant we were able to enjoy the live entertainment that occurs each night from 5 - 6:00 pm. I would recommend this place to individuals who are looking for a fun and cozy place to eat on a cold night. The steak frites were delicious and overall the food was good, except the mussel dish. Overall a great spot!
Very nice place to eat. The ambiance was nice, some live music was playing, not super loud, easy to carry on a conversation. The food was very good. When having frites, do try the truffle mayonnaise, it will make you give up ketchup.
Our waitress was very good, personable and attentive however she was swamped with a larger party. Two things on our order did not come out at the right time. It was not a huge delay but noticeable.
If you are going the the Notre Dame Basilica for Aura at night, this is a great place for dinner afterwards. I would recommend making a reservation.
Always a favorite spot for dinner when we are in Montreal. We love Lorenzo, the manager!
Excellent service and delicious food! The ambiance was great and we really enjoyed our evening.
Dry, under seasoned mains and weak cocktails. Had much better meals elsewhere for more affordable price.
We were a group of 9 girls for a bachlorette party. Everything was perfect! The food, the drinks, the atmosphere and our server were all wonderful. Thanks for a memorable experience. I would highly recommend Mondavie! Can't wait to go back with my husband :-)
My wife and I really enjoyed the ambiance of Modavie. I wasn’t that excited about my steak, but my wife loved her penne with chicken. Overall, it was a wonderful place and fabulous service. I just wish the steak was more tender, juicier and flavorful. It was bland. I will visit again though.
Lots of fun, very good food, good trip playing, good service. Obviously noisily by the band.
The food, service, and ambiance were all AMAZING. The only somewhat down side is we were seated in the room with the jazz band and it was SO LOUD when they we’re playing. They were fantastic but had I known, I would have requested seating in another room; you would have heard the band but still heard each other. Definitely coming back though!
We booked Modavie specifically because it was a restaurant with live jazz music, however there was no live music at all because the musicians simply did not turn up. When we queried the lack of live music , we were told by our waiter Simon that we should have said at the beginning of our meal that we specifically wanted the live music. As Modavie advertises itself as a live jazz restaurant, we did not think that this would’ve been necessary . We were very disappointed as we had been looking forward to this for a long time. The manager did try to make amends by offering a free drink but by this time we just wanted to leave. We will say that the food was good and the service was ok, if not a little bit over the top! If you are going just check that there will be music on the night you’re going! There are other live jazz restaurants in Montreal that might be better.
Service was great. Food excellent. Entertainment was very good
