Service was great, we had a good time however we were extremely disappointed with the grand seafood platter. I would not recommend that to anyone, especially for that price. We should have asked how it came out. Did not expect everything to be served cold.

Our server Emily J was so personal and patient, she went above and beyond making sure our glasses were never empty and all our needs were met. We were celebrating our 17 year anniversary and she helped make the dinner a truly wonderful and unforgettable experience.

Went for my fiancé’s birthday. We had the seafood tower and added the steak. We also had crab in a jar and octopus. The food took forever. Finally our steak came. Stilled waited and waited for the tower - keep in mind all the food on the tower is cold. When it did come, the server told us to clear the table to make room and that our bread would still take a while because they burned the bread that was supposed to be ours. Thought some extra consideration or effort would have been made as it was for a birthday. This was the second chance we have from our last bad experience there. Overpriced, underwhelming.

We brought our parents there for the first time to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary & they loved everything about Modern Ocean: the food, the ambience & our server. They were impressed with the elegant interiors & how warm everybody was as we walked in. The hostess gave us the best corner spot with a little bit of privacy. We commend our server. He is very gracious & kind enough to suggest what we might like. He didn’t make a mistake. The surf & turf platter was an instant favorite! We also enjoyed our drinks & of course the desserts. This is now one of our favorite places to dine & celebrate special occasions. We will sure be back 😊

Our server was Emilie. It was her first day on the job. She was amazing. Very attentive to our needs. It was my birthday so I got to choose a complimentary dessert & got a card. Very nice gesture.

This was our first time at Modern Ocean, the food was amazing, but our server Anna was exceptional! The best server we have had at any restaurant in a long while. She was so pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive. Back to the food, we had the warm crab in a jar .. sooo good, and the surf and turf platter which was more than enough for 3 people and a great selection of flavorful steak and seafood. Baked Alaska dessert was the perfect ending. We will definitely be back!

They truly live up to the name, the only place in the city that knows how to showcase the “ocean”, great fish and seafood and service was incredible. Went during Negroni week and they had some great features for that!

It’s really just an expensive tapas bar. Only three seafood entrees and all around $50. We had Wagyu (Ocean?) dumplings for $20; warm crab in a jar (literally a can of canned crabmeat warmed up in garlic butter) , also about $20; and a wedge of iceberg lettuce with scallops for $26. The best part of the meal was the crusty bread. The restaurant was only about one third full on a Friday night. These guys need to figure out their value proposition or it isn’t going to get better.

I had the lobster and scallops. There were no sides for theses dishes. I was shocked at how small the scallops were - and some of them were rubbery. overall, i don't feel we had value for a meal for 3 which was $325+

Modern decor with comfortable seating and roomy tables. Two of us shared Grand Seafood Platter and all items were fresh, chilled perfectly, and flavourful. Server was knowledgeable and attentive without hovering. Finally found excellent fresh unbreaded seafood in Calgary at a moderate price. Will definitely return !

Date night and no other restaurant in the city really excited us, so we ended up at our favourite. Beautiful evening on the new patio (definitely our new go to in the summer) with truffle popcorn, cocktails, seafood platter, cavier, tartare, southwest prawns, and baked Alaska. Service was amazing!

For the price, I felt the appetizers while good were by no means exceptional. The ahi tuna was scant and the accompanying vinegarette/greens didn't have much depth in flavor. The beef dumplings lacked spice/flavor and weren't especially hot (temperature-wise) when they reached our table. The crab itself was good but swimming in butter. I like butter, but it was excessive and interfered a bit with my enjoyment of the delicate crab. Our two salads (especially the wedge) were fantastic. As well, our server was incredibly attentive.

Modern Ocean was perfect for celebrating our anniversary. They allowed us to order from the Steak menu and had a. very nice card on our table for our anniversary from the staff. They also, comped our dessert. We ordered the Mash Potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding and Garlic Mushrooms, all very complimentary with our dinner. We would highly recommend Modern Ocean/Modern Steak!
