Our decor is warm and modern. The tradition has always been dark wood, leathers and a muted palette for a steakhouse. We broke the mould and decided to add hand-selected music that reflects us! We’re more like Jay Z and less like Sinatra.
We only serve ranch specific Alberta Beef. That means we don’t serve beef from anywhere else on the planet. We know our farmers and ranchers personally and respect the hard work they put in to produce our beef. We like our beef to be, hormone & antibiotic-free and pasture-raised. Happy cattle make for better steaks.
We are one of just a handful of steakhouses in Canada that serves, Grass-fed, Grain-fed, Wet-aged, Dry-aged and Waygu beef 365 days a year. Our beef is always fresh never frozen.
We use an 1800o Infrared Grill to cook your steaks. The high heat creates a flavourful crust on the outside of the steak and leaves a juicy centre.

Delicious food, nice atmosphere and great cocktails
Food was great as usual but uncharacteristically, the service was surprisingly disjointed.
Our sides came out late enough that my steak was cold and we had the hostess looking after us for half the meal and eventually a waiter for the rest of the meal.
Not the usual service but maybe they were slammed due to pending Covid pending restrictions coming?
All in all good great, atmosphere great both as usual but the mix up with our sides really detracted from the usual experience.
Amazing service we always love our dining at Modern. There is no where that surpasses their attention to detail and succulent steak! We were happy to have Kyle’s excellent service and thank you Manager Natasha for always making our night special at Modern in Kensington! Thank you Modern
We can not say enough about the personal service! Natasha is an amazing host and always shows such gratitude for us being there. She takes the time to talk and check on you? It almost feels like family! Jeff and Ryan are outstanding. So helpful in food and wine selection, they truly make the evening! We will be back soon. Everyone working here is super friendly! Tristan was an awesome server and we enjoyed every bite of our meal. The octopus appetizer was outstanding! The tomahawk steak is fabulous as were the sides. Great presentation too! Definitely will be back......soon!!!!!

We were in town for business and decided to go for a tomahawk. The cook and flavour was perfection. Excellent customer service and the manager introduced herself and checked in with us.
The staff was friendly and the menu has some great choices with a great concept farm/ranch to table. The Sunday tomahawk special is for sharing and boasts a tomahawk ribeye for two with two sides for $99. The issue was not the quality of the meat, it was the fact it wasn’t a tomahawk ribeye at all. The cut was a sirloin roast with a bone laid beside it on a plate, with no ribeye to be found! The sides were rather pathetic in size and depth of flavor. It wasn’t a great value for the price and it wasn’t a deal at all.

A great meal and Date Night is an amazing value. We were a little surprised though when we were given a 7-10 minute warning that they wanted our table vacated when we had only been there for an hour and a half, and had ordered after dinner drinks. We’ll be back, but now that we know you only get 1 1/2 hours for dinner we know what to expect and won’t order the extra drinks. I don’t like feeling rush, but the food was excellent!

Pretty disappointed with the overall quality of the food, marketed as a top end steakhouse I decided on the $84 waygu ribeye which I was told should be like butter and to be ordered “medium” so I did, it showed up under cooked, closer to rare they took it back after a few bites and recooked it to more medium. The texture however still chewy and tough definitely not like butter and definitely not worth $84, at this point we were running out of time for our table and told our table is booked so I kept it and carried on. Overall I’m not sure I will return. Also not sure if these get read, but with COVID and us wanting a nice dinner after being locked insider for what seems like a year, frankly this restaurant didn’t hit the mark. The Keg would have been better and a 1/3 of the price.

We have been wanting to try Modern Steak for some time; unfortunately, it was not the experience we were hoping for. A bowl of dry, tasteless popcorn does not replace some good bread (none) and the 'steak' itself did not have a pleasant appearance (brown) and was quite tasteless; we were very glad we had ordered bearnaise! The best part of the meal was the parmesan, truffle fries; however, the good fries did not compensate for the outrageous price we paid for a very 'ordinary' meal!
Went for my daughters 21st birthday and had an amazing time. Great service, great food and a campimetry dessert was a cool touch! It is a fancy night out without the attitude. One of my fav places in Calgary :)

We celebrated my birthday at Modern Steak. The entire staff, from the manager to our fabulous server, AJ was attentive and really fun.
