   We ordered the tomahawk and it was pretty good, but the sides were really disappointing. Tallow potatoes, wedge salad, asparagus because they didn’t have the brocolini, wagyu gyoza, brussel sprout all greasy or bland. The server made us move from the table I had reserved and forgot a bunch of things. People who arrived after us were served before us. The menu description was great but otherwise I didn’t liked the service. The music was terrible and very loud, the space looked dated. Will not return especially at that price point. It was my birthday, we ordered a dessert, the waiter said it was comp but ended up charging us for it.

   Five ladies dined with the set menu for the YYC Food and Drink event. We had both the Steak and Ocean menus and they were both awesome. Our server/sommelier , Ryan, was incredible and truly made the evening (4 hours) very very special. Food and service was great and the recommendations and stories were great. We all came away knowing that we will return to Modern Steak/Ocean in Kensington! Thank you so very much and for participating in this great Calgary annual event!

   Party of 11 went for dinner on a Saturday… Went for the Food & Drink Expo…Portion sizes were prefect… Give the first 4 courses a 10/10… The last course was 5/10… It was more like a yogurt, rather then a cheesecake. We were there for over 3 hours, not once did we feel rushed. Our server Rachel was amazing… Attentive without being overbearing… She even gave us Truffle Popcorn, and a Baked Alaska for the table! The Manager was also great! Checked on us several times. Definitely will be back!

   This was our first visit to Modern Steak and we were very impressed, and I have to say right off the bat, the most standout part of our experience was our server Katie! Her enthusiasm for the menu and the business was infectious- the time she took to educate us on the menu got us excited about the meal! She was very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. When we had to get our meal packed up in a hurry because our babysitter asked us to return home to our young baby, she got our food neatly and quickly packed and got us our bill in a timely fashion (our steaks tasted just as good when we finished them at home!) Modern steak is a bit of a splurge but the menu is an adventure in steak and I want to return and just order every side so I can try them all! Overall a great experience to celebrate a belated birthday. Thank you Katie!

    Food, service and ambience amazing, the only annoying thing was that there was a family with 2 young and very disruptive kids who ruined the atmosphere. When booking the restaurant under the “date” option, there should be a separate room where kids are not allowed. Modern Steak guests look for a different (and very expensive!) experience, which should not be tainted by kids.

    Top shelf service from our wait staff. Our main waiter, Brad's knowledge of the menu, helped us when choosing our meal, which ended up being perfect. The atmosphere was sophisticated and chic. 5+ stars.

    We enjoyed having Rachel as our server. She’s very knowledgeable with both food and drinks. She made recommendations and we really valued her opinions and she never steered us wrong. She also wasn’t constantly at our table but had intuition to come by at the right times. Rachel also made us feel so comfortable and didn’t rush us at all. This allowed us to sample so many things, all of which were enjoyed. The highlight is the Kago A5, there’s a reason this is ranked the number 1 steak in the world. It’s an experience I highly recommend.

    Great dinner on a cold night. Excellent service, melt in your mouth delicious steak and sides. Polenta that I aspire to make!! Sticky toffee pudding! Yum.

    Everything was amazing except the lighting in there is terrible for a date! It’s so dark and we were under one single light so I felt like my bags under my eyes were Uber-highlighted! Glad I was there with a friend and not a real date! I get the mood there is dark but it’s too dark. The food was really good, just one of our steaks was quite undercooked but our server was happy to fix it.

    Went for a date night and was surprised they offer a special on Wednesday called Date Night! The best service from Dani as she went over and above and was lovely to chat with. Food was incredible and the Baked Alaska for dessert was a great treat as it’s not something you can get anywhere. Can’t wait to return.

    Kyle was our server and was very professional and handled our group very well. The other 6 folks were at Modern for their first time and we all quite enjoyed our experience there. Kyla and the rest of the staff were awesome. Good job Modern Steak.. Will travel to Cowtown again and enjoy your establishment again. Thank you..

    This was my second experience at Modern Steak and it once again was phenomenal. I couldn't have asked for better food or service. We were attended to and fussed over just the right amount. The food was fresh, expertly prepared and plentiful in portion size. The only tiny thing I would change is adding a little more light to the dining room. My eyes aren't as young as they once were and reading the menu is a bit challenging, but I would absolutely be challenged 100 more times to enjoy their steaks!

    Short and sweet… Steaks always consistent and perfect. Ambiance is amazing, I love the architecture of the dining room, hostess was friendly and no fake talks, manager respectfully came for quality and service check, music was delightful , timing was great, wine had great value for the buck, and service maintenance and mise in place was impeccable. Ryan is captivating if you talk to him, if you talk further, he is fascinating, because he’s very knowledgeable and got vast experience in the hospitality industry. It was a great pleasure and, as a bonus, we learn a bit with a wine connoisseur. And guys, bring back the lobster with mash, also an exquisite baked potato would be great, I mean, it’s great how it is now, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Thank you!
