My girlfriend and I went for a much needed date night out, so we decided to try Modern. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the crab in a jar and wagyu dumplings to start, and those are a must try. We knew the steaks would be perfectly cooked, and they certainly did not disappoint! Sheldon was our server, and he was the best. He was very friendly and witty, so of course we stayed a little longer to talk and share some funny stories with him. We can't wait to come back!

Must try restaurant. Great tasting food, highly recommend the Brussel sprouts and Crab in a jar. Waiter was great too.

Always consistent and delicious food- we stopped by on date night Wednesday which is an outstanding value at the same quality and service you would get on a Saturday. We order gluten free and the servers are always knowledgeable and attentive to the needs. Easy favourite place for a steak and Upbeat atmosphere.

Dinner was ok, 40 oz tomahawk was probably closer to 24oz. Bernaise was cold and sides were quite small. Flavours were good though. I think the restaurants are just getting back into full stride but it left a bit to be desired.

The food was amazing except our tomahawk steak was 25% fat. We had the tomahawk special with 2 sides of the butternut squash and chorizo mac and cheese. The waiter took out orders but only checked up on us once. We had to ask the hosts for a popcorn refill and had to ask 2 different ones before we got some. My boyfriend would have enjoyed another drink with his food but there was no opportunity to ask for one. We had empty dishes piling up on our tiny table which no one noticed. We were eating in the dark using our phones for light until the last few bites when they turned on these super bright ugly lights. We were misdirected to the washrooms and when we finally found them, they were disgusting; stinky and wet floors.

It was the perfect valentines date dinner, ambiance was great and the server was amazing and on top of everything

Very good quality and service. Been there before but the Valentines special was ridiculously over priced and under delivered, should have been the regular menu...

First time at this location. Excellent food and enjoyed the experience very much. Only thing was the issue of the very loud fans in the stairs area and we were seated right next to them. There didn’t appear to be any reason they couldn’t have been moved to the area cordoned off above. Would have just created some separation. Otherwise ever was excellent.

Modern Steak has always been a fav of mine, I am a returning customer however i had never been to the Stephen Ave location before. As soon as we sat down everything seemed very rushed, like we needed to hurry up and eat, not sure if there was another sitting after us but our reservation was for 4:30? Hardly anyone was in the restaurant. On top of that I asked our server if I could have my meal but instead of peppercorn sauce if i could have the truffle butter, he flat out told me NO way? My boyfriend looked at the waiter and said OK does the sauce come on the side and our waiter said yes. My boyfriend than ordered my meal and to our surprise the sauce did NOT come on the side. Not a big deal, but when you have allergies it kind of is. Needless to say my boyfriend ended up switching me meals. After spending almost $400 at your restaurant that evening I expected a lot better service. I love the food so I would come back but not impressed about the service.

We enjoyed our supper very much the food was super ! Will add that our choice of wine was said to be substituted for another on recommendation thru our server from the wine specialist . I asked for the price after accepting, but with no answer so I asked for the menu . After looking up the price for this substitute it was significantly more by 25% at least from my initial selection . I was a bit disappointed which was soon lifted by the food we were served . Will return again in the near future .

Had the absolute best time at Modern Steak celebrating my 30th birthday! The food was outstanding and the service was amazing! We really enjoyed our meal!

Went for our 10th Anniversary and we were blown away, everything was delicious and it was a wonderful experience.

First time coming to Modern Steak on 8th. Although it was a super cold night, the welcome was warm, and service was awesome.
Sheldon was very friendly and helpful with answering any and all questions regarding the menu and also made some great suggestions.
Food was awesome. Risotto was a bit overpriced for the size in my opinion but that’s based off of experience.
Salad, Risotto, Steak and Truffle Fries were all amazing.
We also enjoyed 2 delicious desserts.

The atmosphere was nice and chill.

Will definitely be coming back again!

Food was overall good, when it was delivered. Service was possibly worst I’ve ever experienced, managements dealing in the situation was quite casual and lazy. They took a large amount off the bill, however that doesn’t remedy and extremely poor dining experience over all.

We had a fabulous date night on the Valentine weekend. The food and service were excellent. We shared the mushroom risotto, blue cheese crusted ribeye steak, roasted carrots and Brussel sprouts. It was the perfect amount of food and everything was delicious! A bit of a weird decor inside but overall we loved the restaurant.

Was super impressed with our first first. Food was amazing especially the brussel sprouts!! We will be back!

service and atmosphere was not what we expected - acknowledgement of the birthday was appreciated - but the service was not the best. The food was good, but I think could have been presented better.

The complimentary dessert was appreciated, but also not the best

Started with a friendly greeting, sat at a comfortable booth with a view of downtown and the bar, lovely and knowledgeable server. Everything tasted great, and make sure to order the brusslespouts as a side - you wont regret it!

Me and my good friend came in for the date night special this past Wednesday and had the greatest service and food. Our server was full of life and was excited to have us there and we were equally excited to be there! He was knowledgeable and Friendly and was able to provide hints and help on the spot. The food was incredible as well. Steaks cooked perfectly. Beverages mixed great and we can’t wait to keep coming back! It was worth every penny! Price wise it’s comparable to other places in its category but well worth it! Highly recommend going and we will be back after the restrictions are lifted!

Amazing food, pricing and service.

The steak seasoning was wayyyy too salty (this coming from a big salt lover). I ended up having a very raw tongue after the meal. The food is good, but pricey for the value received. Desserts were delicious!

My boyfriend and I came for a date night on Saturday November 28th. We were sat in a beautiful booth beside the window. Barb was our server and she was amazing. Service was second to none. As it was our first time she told us a brief history of the restaurant and the specials for the evening.

I had a French 75 and my boyfriend had a gin and tonic. Both were made beautifully and we snacked on the complimentary truffle popcorn while looking at the menus. The only complain that I have about the popcorn is that it’s HIGHLY addictive!

We started with the small seafood platter which was delicious. The salty crab with clarified butter was my favourite. The village bay oysters were so fresh and beautifully shucked.

Next we had the steak tartare. It was very good. The steak was fresh and seasoned perfectly - the truffle oil is a nice touch.
House made chips accompanied the tartare. Perfect crunch for this dish.

The wagyu dumplings came next and were a highlight for us. Perfectly seared with a spicy sauce and ponzu for dipping.

For the main course we shared a rib steak - medium rare.
It came perfectly cooked with a few cloves of confit garlic. Superb. We also asked for a piece of seared foie gras atop the steak. The kitchen delivered. The foie gras was perfectly cooked.
We ordered the truffle Parmesan fries, Brussels sprouts and butternut squash to accompany the steak. All the sides were delicious. My favourite was the butternut squash with maple.

We didn’t have room for dessert but on our next visit the baked Alaska is on our radar.
