Our décor is warm and modern. The tradition has always been dark wood, leathers and a muted palette for a steakhouse. We broke the mould and decided to add hand-selected music that reflects us! We’re more like Jay Z and less like Sinatra.

We only serve ranch specific Alberta Beef. That means we don’t serve beef from anywhere else on the planet. We know our farmers and ranchers personally and respect the hard work they put in to produce our beef.

We are one of just a handful of steakhouses in Canada that serves, Grass-fed, Grain-fed, Wet-aged, Dry-aged and Wagyu beef 365 days a year. Our beef is always fresh never frozen.

We use a 1800 degree Infrared Grill to cook your steaks. The high heat creates a flavourful crust on the outside of the steak and leaves a juicy centre.

Uninspiring as steak houses go. Good attentive service although it took 90:minutes to from the time we sat down to receiving our dinner. Pricey although I suppose this is a common complaint these days. Clearly aspiring to attract the high rollers with high priced offerings. Looks like the model is working and but for the time taken to receive our dinners the restaurant seems very well run operationally.

We went for date night and it is the best bang for my buck in the city. The food was outstanding and the service was out of this world. Date night is the city’s best kept secret.

Really enjoyed the Wednesday two dine for $99 special (a bottle of wine, choice of 2 steaks and a side). Ordered the flat iron and the sirloin both perfectly cooked. Service was efficient waitress was very kind and gave us some take home truffled popcorn for the kids at home. a delicious and enjoyable evening.

It was nice, good service, food was ok except my steak was supposed to be medium but it was actually medium, medium rare and medium well as I went through it. Not sure if it was on the corner of the grill or what. My husband's was supposed to be medium it was medium and medium rare. $15.5 for a 5oz glass of wine was a bit much.

We enjoyed our evening at Modern Steak completely. Our steaks were cooked exactly how we ordered them. The appetizer and sides were perfect and even the coffee was excellent. My only disappointment was my wife ordered a glass of Prosecco and was told it wasn't on the wine list so had to choose something else. Modern Steak is a must try. We'll be back. We had friends tell us it was very expensive however, we didn't feel that at all.

Date night special was great! Choice of one of 2 fillet (6oz) or striploin (10oz) two regular sides and bottle of red or white wine. Awesome value, service was really good, food tastes great. I have had some of the best restaurant steaks here.

The food was great. Really delicious steak,risotto. The chocolate dream dessert is beyond. I would recommend having tablecloths on the tables or some sort of it,but overall, it's a great place.

Absolutely delicious! First time and it did not disappoint. Tried one of the larger meals which had 4 different cuts of their fabulous locally sourced beef. Service was impeccable from our waiter, the Manager who stopped by our table, and the waiters that showed my nephew how to fold napkins. Great experience and top notch food and cocktails. Until next time!

It was a good night until my sister choked … Thank god a patron at the next table thumped her on the back . But then none of us finished our dinner & packed it up . I believe it was the manager that came over after the fact .. but nothing was comped . Not a big deal we will be back . Thank you

Great food, equalled only by the great service. Modern twists on a classic steak menu, and the beef was the hero - and beautifully cooked. Only slight issue was that some people on a table nearby were having smoked whisky, and the smell of smoke was quite strong when we were eating - fortunately, the quality of everything else more than compensated. Have been before and will go again!

Overall... MEH? Service was just okay. Staff seems to 'want' to be upscale and 'professional' - but needs improvement in my opinion. Food was good but not great. When factoring in the prices, not great value (and I'm all to happy to pay extra for great food and a great dining experience!). Overall experience was just okay and therefore, probably won't be going back.

As always an outstanding meal. Food was excellent and server Andy very attentive and helpful. My very favourite place to eat. Never disappoints. It is one if the most beautiful restaurants for ambience.

Went for my Wife's birthday and the food was great. Our server was awesome always showing up at the perfect time. It is pricey and a bit loud. We had a great time and enjoyed ourselves for about 3 hours for 4 people, never felt like we had to rush and leave.

We had an excellent time last night to celebrate my birthday at Modern Steak Southport. I had requested a booth or quiet corner through Open Table and when we arrived we received a booth in a cozy corner! That was the perfect start! There was a birthday card on the table when we arrived, which was such a nice surprise! Our server was excellent ( I forget his name but he was formally from the Kensington location and had recently transferred) to Southport) He was very friendly, informative and indulged in our banter back and forth, I didn’t realize that they closed at 9pm and had made the reso for 7pm. Not once did he make us feel rushed and came back to check on us often to top up our wine throughout our meal! We tried the Crab in a Jar for our starter and t was delicious! Big chunks of Dungeness crab, garlic lemony butter and delicious slices of baguette. We devoured it! We were there for the Wednesday date night and although it was pretty busy which was to be expected, everything came out in an appropriate amount of time considering how long we had to eat, the steaks were made to perfection melted in your mouth. The ambience was perfect, dimly lit around the dining room but enough light at the table to see our meal and each other :) barely able to finish it all as we were stuffed, we kindly declined desert when offered and our server came back with a complimentary crème brûlée! We couldn’t turn that down and and ended up finding room to finish it :) he also sent us home with a to go box of their delicious truffle popcorn after we realized we didn’t receive it when we arrived and thought maybe they took it off the menu, so that was a nice bonus! We love this location and will be back many, many more times!

They got rid of their signature passata potato dish, but replaced it with an amazing short rib poutine. It is awesome, but can't we have both. Scrap the mash potato option. Andy is amazing. I cannot speak highly enough about this man.

We had a wonderful meal during Date Night. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. This special is excellent for the amount and quality of food, plus a bottle of wine. Andy is to be commended for his outstanding service. The only negative comment I have is regarding the music. It was a little loud and fast-paced for a quiet dinner.

Modern Steak is our go-to special occasion “place”! The servers and staff are friendly and personable. It’s also great to see any member of the management team helping out. Highly recommend. Thank you again and always for such a memorable experience. There aren’t many places that we say “ I just don’t want it to end!”

Dined here to celebrate a birthday! Second time here. William was our server and he was excellent. Very accommodating and knowledgeable. We all (4 of us) had steak and they were done perfectly. Our only comment would be to the sides. The servings were quite small and expensive for what was offered. Dessert was also very good. Would eat here again! Thankyou for a lovely evening!

Great Restaurant Our 36 oz Steak was mostly bone. Quite misleading. The sides weren’t as good as they normally are. The wine is a little expensive. Great service and ambience though. Thanks

The food drink and service were absolutely fabulous. We had crab in a jar,tuna tataki,& shared bone in striploin and Baked Alaska. So much flavour knowledgeable server. Every dish was an experience leaving you wanting more. Recommend as a couple for date night or fabulous dining with friends and the shareable steaks. I am from a fine dining background so I am always looking at the entire experience. Every table was filled with laughter and joy. Strongly suggest checking out Modern Steak.

Some of our party loved the food others did not. My friend, who had the lobster would've appreciated a larger plate to put some of the sides on. It was strange that it was served on a tiny plate. Service was very very good. It's hard for restaurants to control this, but some of the tables were extremely loud and of course it is difficult to hear each other in that setting. I'm not sure why the booth tables are so long/spread out. It is not conducive to talking and hearing each other. I really enjoyed myself and we go back. My older friends said they would not. Ps Love the popcorn instead of bread at the beginning
