Our décor is warm and modern. The tradition has always been dark wood, leathers and a muted palette for a steakhouse. We broke the mould and decided to add hand-selected music that reflects us! We’re more like Jay Z and less like Sinatra.

We only serve ranch specific Alberta Beef. That means we don’t serve beef from anywhere else on the planet. We know our farmers and ranchers personally and respect the hard work they put in to produce our beef.

We are one of just a handful of steakhouses in Canada that serves, Grass-fed, Grain-fed, Wet-aged, Dry-aged and Wagyu beef 365 days a year. Our beef is always fresh never frozen.

We use a 1800 degree Infrared Grill to cook your steaks. The high heat creates a flavourful crust on the outside of the steak and leaves a juicy centre.

    Excellent anniversary dinner - we got the surf and turf . Prawns and strip loin steak were absolutely delicious!!! This will be our tradition now for our anniversary dinner when in Calgary. Attentive staff , great ambience. Thank you Modern Steak !!!

    This place wants me coming back every week. The service is always top notch, drinks and wine taste amazing and presented very professionally, and the food is delicious and best in cowtown. Ribeyes and tartar. Oysters and crab. My oh my.

    Our second visit here. Oysters were excellent. All of our sides were very good! The service was fantastic. We were on the patio- noisy from the buses and cars on the road behind. Probably would eat inside in future. The steaks were slightly over but still enjoyable. Server had very good knowledge of the menu items and drink list.

    High end steaks and seafood with equivalent service. Local partnerships with Alberta ranches provides Modern with excellent quality beef. Sides seemed smaller than my previous visit. Best to try them on a “date nite” special to see if it suits your tastes/budget. Good food. Very attentive service.

    A return visit to Modern Steak and as always an excellent meal, exceptional service and a great evening out with friends. Our server provided very detailed explanations of the source of all cuts of beef on the menu and his attentiveness was appreciated. We were impressed that two different managers checked in to ensure our food was satisfactory. The quality of the steaks is consistently excellent, the sides are always tasty and served family style for sharing. Everything, including cocktails, wine and dessert, was delicious as we have come to experience with each visit.

    Excellent service, fantastic atmosphere and the food was fresh, flavourful and beautifully presented. Thank you so much to our exceptional waitress, Cinsa (sp?) who went above and beyond for our special announcement. We always recommend Modern Steak to friends and family as a go-to place for birthdays or celebrations. We will be back!!!

    We celebrated our Anniversary here, and overall it was good. Prices were a little high, but nothing could compare to our server, Andrew! He was absolutely engaging, a pleasure to speak with and very knowledgeable about the food and wine menus. We will be back because of Andrew.

    Our steak was excellent. I was disappointment that it came with only one side. Extra sides and even the sauce for the steak was extra. Seemed very expensive for what we got.

    We like to go here for birthday party’s the place is excellent for a big group we order the share plates of steaks so we can sample everything from the menu. The service is excellent we enjoyed it very much.

    Positive start seated quickly and hostess found out we celebrating anniversary. She returned shortly with a happy anniversary card. Nice touch. Waiter explained menu and took our order a fixed price special with added wedge salad. He did place setting with long narrow plates. Salad arrived in a soup bowl and it was very awkward and messy to cut it in half and get it on the narrow plate. My wife ate the remaining half from the bowl. Main course after clearing and new setting steaks arrived ordered medium rare. We waited several minutes for the sides and decided to start instead of waiting further. Mine was room temp and overcooked but her fillet looked perfect so I decided to continue with mine it did get close to proper cook midway through. Shoestring fries arrived on the narrow plate again very messy to serve and mushrooms in soup bowl that worked well. After focusing on the sides I looked at my wife’s fillet and it was purple half way through she said she couldn’t eat it. Tried to attract waiter a few minutes later got manager over for her steak. She also mentioned no one had come by to refill her water. Steak was replaced. So we were hoping for fine dining and quite disappointed restaurant is set up for it wait staff all appeared mature hostess was great but the execution was poor from inappropriate plating to service and food. So back to our regular steakhouse down the street where food and service is always predictable and spot on in future.

    Asked for a medium rare 300$ ribeye tasting, came out pretty rare. Some of the pieces were blue rare. Manager seemed to have dropped it off, and blatantly called it medium rare. Even after I had commented that it was rare he just took off. Server was good, manager seemed not to care though.

    My wife and I decided on Modern Steak to celebrate our 28th anniversary and we couldn’t have picked a better place. Our server, Thea was wonderful! We were presented with a personalized card from the staff for our anniversary which was a very nice touch. Our dinner was spectacular and included a starter of scallops and mains of salmon and a steak. The steak was cooked to perfection. The seasoning was amazing. I almost didn’t need a knife to cut the meat. I added a side of brussel sprouts cooked with bacon and another side of wild mushrooms. My wife had the salmon and it looked and smelled divine. The flavours were perfectly layered and complex without being pretentious. We shared a bottle of wine from the small but complete win menu and were very happy to see many selections from Canada. Portion sizes were more than ample. We finished the night with desert. The chocolate lover’s dream and baked Alaska were our choices and we couldn’t have done better. Thea made sure to hold back the pendent light at our table so we could see the baked Alaska when lit. Always a fun experience. Again, the flavours were spectacular. Overall, Modern Steak made our anniversary a night that we will remember.

    Our first time at Modern Steak. We had raw west coast oysters as an appetizer and OMG they were fabulous. They were meaty and fresh and so so delicious. The steaks were awesome and so were the sides! The brussel sprouts and truffle fries are a must! One in our party had the halibut and she argued it was better than her husbands steak and he agreed it was as good. They raved that the risotto with the halibut was amazing. We have eaten at Chairman’s several times and we preferred Modern Steak. It’s quieter and we like the menu selection better. Our server was excellent. Will definitely be back!!

    Unexpected date night - arrived prior to 17:30 (5:30PM) for happy hour, including 50% off all wine on the list. Thursday night is Surf&Turf night. For $49 we each had a 12 oz med rare strip steak, nice sized prawns, smashed potatoes and broccolini - best steak in a long while, by far. Service was great, as much attention as we required and not a tonne of fluff. Great value for what we received. Don’t wait for the weekend - checkout the value you can find on non-weekend dates.
