Moroccan
Moltaqa is translated as a place where people meet and enjoy the whole experience.

Healthy and flavourful, halal Moroccan cuisine, full of aromatic spices. Vegan and gluten free options. We offer BC and international wines, beers on tap, cocktails. Freshly squeezed juices, Kombucha on tap, Moroccan Tea, Turkish coffee, homemade lemonade.

Moroccan cuisine is a delicious combination of mouthwatering flavors that make it unique. Moroccan food is incredibly diverse, thanks to the country's interaction with other cultures and nations over the centuries. Influenced by Berbers, Arabs, Andalusian, Mediterranean and especially French.

We use traditional Moroccan Tagines for cooking, where the convection produced by the design of the pot cooks everything perfectly. The dish is naturally and continuously basted - ingredients are moist and the meat buttery.

No Fat, No Oils. All our meat is halal and hormone- and antibiotic-free. We have lots of vegan and pescatarian options. Dance shows.

Our friends and us enjoyed this Moroccan experience very much. We are foodies & so we enjoy trying new cuisines. The food was very tasty & the Moroccan style of serving plates were unique. The only disappointment was their bread. I was expecting Moroccan bread with the meal not regular crusty buns, overall excellent! The belly dancer was superb!!! Definitely will come back, the server was sweet. 👍🏻😊

We’ve eaten here twice with friends. Great food. Perfectly seasoned. The pastille is fabulous and the belly dancing adds fun and flare to the occasion. Highly recommend.

Food was very good and the Moroccan cocktail was wonderful. However, service was extremely slow, probably because the restaurant was full and there were only a few servers. Still worth going!

Great food, service, and atmosphere. It shows that the owner cares about the business. It was a bit quiet because of the timing and the view across the street couldn't be helped given the location. It also seemed a bit on the expensive side, but it was a healthy portion of great quality food.

Came here for the first time as it was my birthday and I had past by this place. Wow- was I amazed with the service and I felt so welcome. Great belly dancing entertainment and awesome food. I have been to Moroccan a few times and the smells just evokes my memories. The manager was great and he is definitely one of the reasons to go back! TIL next time.

We have dined at Moltaqa several times this summer while staying in Vancouver as we enjoy the cuisine which highlights great ingredients and subtle but complex spices. The stuffed aubergines, the lentil stew and tagine dishes are not to be missed. In fact , the food and service are consistently excellent and the owner, Mimo is a welcoming and generous host. On weekend nights Lana, one of the top bellydancers in Canada, performs and sparks a party atmosphere.

This was my third visit to Moltaqa. One doesn't need the exact address, your nose will lead to the door, a wonderful mix of aromas are wafting around in the street. The food and service is fabulous. Only issue on a Saturday evening is that they didn't have a number of wines available i.e. the cheaper bottles.

We enjoyed our meal but the service needs major improvement. The server was nice but seemed to be inexperienced and disorganized. Re were only three tables to serve. He never came to see us to see if everything was okay, if we needed anything. We always had to call him to get what we needed.

The restaurant was cozy with some sofa seats available and nice pillows. We ordered 1 lamb tangine and 1 seafood pastilla plus 2 beers on tap. The overall food quality was good. They gave us free bread with some good quality olive oil. For me personally, the spices in the dishes were relatively subtle. It would be a bit underwhelming for those who love pungent spices, but great for those who do not like strong spices. The tangine has 32 types of spices in it but the flavours come out relatively harmonious and mild, nothing is overpowering. The lamb was very tender, in which I believe the server said it was stewed for about 5 hours. The server took the time to chat with us, introducing the culture and the dishes, which I greatly appreciate. The pastry was flaky and crusty for the pastilla, I could hear the crust when I cut into it. Again, there were many spices added but the flavours are relatively mild and subtle. Overall, it was a good dining experience, and the price we paid was reasonable.

We arrived at 9:30pm on a Saturday night. Only two other tables taken.
We had the lamb tajine and the couscous royal. The tajine was very good. Maybe missing some traditional flavors. I had better in France. The couscous was quite disappointing. No chicken, no real merguez.

Excellent customer service, delicious food (and flavour) and such a warm atmosphere. I was greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant and when there was an awkward moment of an outsider peering through the window and staring at us, the staff took care of it! I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

TAGINE!!!! This place has the best tagine. We came with our 5 year old and he even loved it (full disclosure: he is an adventurous eater). The food was excellent. They even have their own kombucha on tap! I am in love with this place and it will now be my go-to restaurant.

This place did not disappoint. The waitress was very thoughtful and was helpful in making suggestions to my friends who couldn't decide what wine to have. The pea soup was yummy (although a bit too salty) , the local sausage as an appy and the veggie flatbread was hot and delicious and so was the lamb shank which just melted off the bone. The lamb sauce is on the sweeter side since it has figs in it. My friends had the steak and the chicken and the chicken pastille. Everyone commented how good their food was. My friend said her glass of kettle valley wine cost $15 which is on the pricier side. The server was friendly and the manager came by and chatted and we discussed the spices used...it's a secret:)
The decor is awesome as it gives that ethnic vibe.
The restaurant is located at the edge of Gastown which some may consider edgier. There is a parking lot right at the end of the block which is very convenient. Thanks for making my friend's birthday a wonderful experience.
Recommendation is to give this place a try if you want something unique and plentiful.

We were excited about eating here and maybe all of the excellent reviews unreasonably increased our expectations? The physical venue itself was OK. The two waitstaff were very attentive and were working very hard. However, for us the food was disappointing. The non-alcoholic drink menu is very limited by the way. We ordered four items from the menu with an intention of sharing and perhaps it was just our bad luck but we didn't find any of the four selections to our liking and one of them was simply inedible. We finished our meal with a cheesecake that is likely brought in and it was quite good. But we were expecting rich and varying seasonings and fragrances with our food and actually found the items to be on the blander side or alternatively almost off putting. I don't claim to have a sophisticated international palate and so maybe this is what Moroccan food is --- and it is just not appealing to us. But is proved to be an expensive venture indeed. After picking through the meal we ended up going next door to Save On Meats and had grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup which were truly tasty. Enough said with that, eh?

The ambience, comfort and service at Moltaqa are all very good. The aubergine starter was excellent, a very nice combination of sweet and bitter. The mint tea was stewed, way too strong, nasty -- never had it like that in Morocco. The mains were good and nicely presented, but only OK. Both lamb dishes, shank and shoulder, had some bitter aftertaste. Seasoning in the tagine was slightly off and it was too salty -- although it's often very salty in Morocco. We enjoyed the visit, the food was good but not outstanding, the service, however, was superb. While it would recommend the restaurant, I'd do so with some reservations. Not sure we'll go back.
