    I, Melody Jade, went there to catch up with friends and family I hadn’t seen in a while. Had a great time. Food (especially the mini donuts) was divine. Waitress was helpful and kind. Whenever I think of a great place to eat in Nanaimo, Montana’s comes to mind. My only caveat was that we were not provided crayons at our table, but that’s fine.

    Although they knew it was our anniversary we got a Happy Anniversary from the server, who had seen Happy Anniversary written on the paper table cloth cover. Birthdays are recognised with a slice of cake.

    Ordered steaks, cooked Ok, but very chewy; baked potato with condiments looked and tasted like it was warmed up; cole slaw was tasteless and dry. Waitress was pleasant. Restaurant was clean and tidy.

    Let me start off by saying that the hosts, servers and cook were excellent. We have no issue at all with the service or the location. My husband had the surf and turf. The steak, lobster and beans were cooked to perfection. However, he found the steak itself to be bland, and a poor cut. As well, we feel that what we paid for the lobster (as well as paying the $8 for double the lobster) was too much for what was received. Again let me say that any constructive criticism we have is NOT for the chef, the servers or any other staff; it is for Montana's as a whole.

    I have to say this is probably the best burger that I’ve had in well over 10 years. Good quality ingredients and well prepared. Only minor gripe is that the gravy on the side portion is too small lol.

    We decided last minute to go out for dinner and we’re able to make a reservation for within the hour. The place was packed but our table was ready. Wait staff was excellent and so were our meals.

    With our reservation for 4 we got seated right after arrival. Our server took care of us quite perfectly that evening. Beverages and food was served in a timely manner. We had a wonderful time.

    We truly enjoy dining at Montana's, regardless as to what food we order...it's all good. The only thing better than the food is the service. The girls are ready to serve and wanting to please. They don't hover, but if you engage they all like to chat briefly. I do have one recommendation though; DO NOT USE THE ONLINE RESERVATION TOOL found on the website. I booked us on a table online, got the confirmation email, then an hour before our reservation time I got another email saying we had been checked in and asking how the meal was. When we actually did arrive at Montana's there was no reservation under my name, and the girls there said, "Don't use the online system. It never works. It's better if you just call us." Now THAT is service. Thank you Ladies...it's always a pleasure.

    The staff was under trained. Place needs good managers. Sat us at an extremely hot table in the sun moved us after complaining. Brought pitchers of water but no glasses. First salad no fork. BBQ was very good.

    Montanas never dissapoints. I simply love it. Food always tastes great, service is always good and staff is very friendly. And the pricing is fair. Always looking forward to going there again. The ribs are finger licking, fall off the bone fantastic.

    My Wife & I asked for a nice quiet spot but it was very noisy for our Anniversary Our Steaks were overcooked also Coleslaw wasn’t very fresh( cabbage tasted wilted) Usually the food at Montanas is very good but we’re a little disappointed this time Hence the lower rating

    Only one cut of steak is available, available in 3 different sizes, which we found odd. Food was okay. A bit too noisy for our liking. Would return, but would look elsewhere first.

    The restaurant had broken a/c in the summertime? With the temps being as hot as they have been in BC this is just ridiculous. They had no crayons for the table which is a small gripe really but couple with the menu shortages (4 adults had to share the rib fest promo menu and the drinks menu - when we asked for a few more we were told they were short and couldn’t give us more than 1 of each menu) and the balance of our experience just added to the poor visit. It was rib fest with a variety of country style “pork and beef” Yellowstone themed meals including a pulled pork sandwich. Which they didn’t have and one of us wanted. A menu item on special promo and they had none? We ordered an appy well before our meals but our meals arrived and the staff having no idea about our appy which we then told them to cancel and make sure we weren’t billed - the person who took our order didn’t care and didnt even make an attempt at trying to make up for their mistake with a free item or small discount for the inconvenience. The service was slow and uninterested, they didn’t take away any of the overflowing rib bowls, empty plates and glasses cluttering up our table to an uncomfortable level. Considering the bill for all of us was over $200 this is simply unacceptable.
