overall2food3service1ambience2I took my mother here for Mother's Day brunch. Because I found it on Open Table, I expected someplace nicer.
This place was terrible!
The menu was a bit weird - there was Chinese fried rice on the menu, but it's a Cuban restaurant.
The wait was terrible. My mother wanted us to get the seafood paella for two, but when we tried to order, we were advised against it b/c it could take up 1.5 hours to have it ready.
We finally settled on our order and it still took over an hour to get our food! The waitress was kind enough to bring us a free bread appetizer while we waited. But my mother, who is a diabetic, started getting a headache and was ready to leave. We decided to stay since we had already sunk so much time waiting.
A little after an hour of waiting, our food arrived. It was ok. I found my meal to be just ok-flavorwise.
Not just was the wait for food extreme, but the management, while they checked a couple of times to see if we wanted anything (other than our food!), never apologized for the long wait. They also never came back to check on us after the food arrived. The waitress was left to be the messenger. Which, I felt was pretty unfair to her.
Those were the non-negotiables for me. An unhappy mother is the one thing I did not want on Mother's Day!
My other dislikes are a bit more biased:
I did not care for the feel of the dining area; this restaurant transforms into a nightclub. So for that to happen, the seating area is pretty open and the sound is not well absorbed. It just felt loud.
Near the entrance is an area for a live band. On the wall behind this is a big screen where ads for other local businesses are constantly scrolling. Envision business cards scrolling by on the screen. This made the place feel cheap, in my opinion.
Lastly, the waitresses all had tight, mid-riff shirts. Some people I'm sure like this. My mother and I did not. Many of the waitresses seemed like they would have been better suited with looser options.
