Welcome to Mulate’s! We are proudly family-owned and operated in New Orleans since 1990! Located conveniently on the corner of Julia Street and Convention Center Blvd, across from the Riverwalk and Convention center, Mulate’s is known as the original Cajun restaurant™, famous for preserving and celebrating the food, music and culture found in the small towns and along the bayous of south Louisiana. Mulate’s serves up traditional Cajun cuisine like gumbo and jambalaya, as well as some more modern Louisiana favorites like chargrilled oysters and southern fried chicken sandwiches. Our menu, designed by second-generation owner, Monique Boutté Christina, reflects an ongoing evolution of Louisiana cuisine. Don’t miss our specialty cocktails and local beers on draft!

It’s New Orleans, for goodness sake. Get a better chef. Food was terrible compared to any other place we ate. Music good. But you can’t make here with bad food.

Seated as soon as we walked in, drinks ordered right away and appetizers came out in a timely manner. Food was very good but portions could have been a bit larger. Server was very nice and fun. Would recommend.

The BBQ shrimp and grits were really good, as were the crab stuffed beignets. The top shelf margarita was also good. The music starts at 6:30 pm so we couldn't wait that long. Great ambience and real NOLA atmosphere.

The service was great, waiter was nice. Order was wrong twice, brought wrong wine and crab beignets came out Nutella beignets. Noise level was low when we were there around 5:30 because the music didn’t start playing until 6:30 but I’m sure the noise level is pretty high after 6:30 and when the restaurant is full. I’ve been to Mulates several times and I can honestly say the food isn’t what it used to be.

Jeremy, our waiter was very friendly, attentive and prompt even though the restaurant was busy. The live music was fun and at a good noise level. Our food was delicious! We will certainly be back on our next trip to New Orleans.

Atmosphere was great! Went with friends from out of town and they loved it. Service was great and the food was excellent. Really had the New Orleans experience with them. I would highly recommend Mulate’s to anyone wanting true delicious New Orleans cuisine. Parking just across the street also made the experience even better. If you are in the city . . . Go!

The gumbo was really tasty, lots of seafood chunks and just the right thickness. The char-grilled oysters were unevenly cooked, some were just right and some were overdone and dried out. Prices were reasonable.

We were there during off season. Would have loved to be there during season! The music was great! Food was good. Service was friendly and accommodating. I imagine the dance floor gets a lot of use during the season. I’ll just have to come back when it’s busy with dancers having a great time to great music!

Made a reservation for September 19th and even confirmed the reservation when sent a text message asking if we will be there the day before. When we arrived, there was a note on the door stating they were closed on the 19th. I had brought a group of 6 to New Orleans for a convention and had everything planned out for a great NOLA dinner. Something needs to be fixed with either Open Table or a restaurant that doesn’t care about its customers. Must be nice to be that popular that you can accept reservations on a night that you are closed and not worry about it. I will take my money somewhere else during my future visits!

The band was wonderful! They played traditional Cajun (french) music which is what we were looking for being in New Orleans. The waiter (Greg) was friendly and helpful. The food came quickly and our food was great (especially the jumbo stuffed shrimp)!
