Love this place usually but was extremely disappointed with last visit. Regular waiter Russel is no longer there - he was a wealth of information about recommending great wine and food. One of the reasons we chose to return.
Our waitress was clueless about wine. Service was painfully slow even though restaurant was not even 1/3 full.
Don’t think we will be back for a long time.
The food was SO good. The waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. Definitely a place we will return to.
Great food, service and feel. Love this little Calgary date secret.
Amazing tapas and wine. Service was perfect, always available and never intrusive.
Amazing atmosphere... helpful service - cute decor!!! Definitely a hidden gem.. highly recommend for events or special occasions!!
For a tapas style restaurant, the food took a very long time (45+ minutes) after ordering and was served altogether. We waited another 20 minutes when ordering a few additional items. The food was average when it arrived.
Valentine’s Day dinner - nice offering for a four course meal. Dinner was good other than mine was cold. Busy night so understanding that that could happen. They remade my meal and it was delicious.
Very nice decor but that did not justify over paying for lackluster food. We ordered 5 plates and were overly unsatisfied with 4 of them and 1 of them was mediocre.
I would not recommend this place as there are much better tapas restaurants in the city.
Great setting and very kind and lovely server, knowledgeable with wine and food. The owner came by and checked to make sure everything was pleasant.
We had the sampler platter which consisted of three tapas (Calamari, Arancini, Meatballs) this fish had some flavorful tastes but there was only a couple tiny meatballs in a tomato sauce with peppers and sausage. Then we ordered another three individual tapas - AAA beef, flaming cheese and Aha Tuna - there were four adults. We didn’t care for the AAA beef dish with the garlic sauce, the flaming cheese was impressive but overall the portions were a bit pricy for the sizes.
I would recommend trying this cozy restaurant because of the ambience and the choices in Tapas and the selection of wines it’s very romantic and very clean.
Love it here! Great food, service and quiet atmosphere. I’ve taken my friends, family and co-workers here and they all have loved it too.
Have the Greek cheese; in fact order one each. Pretty inside.
It wasnt very busy but with only 1 waiter there could have been more attention on describing tapas and service was not as prompt.
Wonderful meal with great friends. Our waitress was great and we enjoyed all the food. Dessert was yummy as well.
Our waiter was great! Had a nice sense of humour
Everything was great. Enjoyed the surf & turf meal
Good food, great service and reasonable prices. I will go again and would tell my friends!
It took the waitress more than 15 minutes to bring us a menu or even offer us a beverage. It was a set five course meal for New Years Eve $65.00 , the food was not good or even close to being worth $65.00 and it took forever for it to come out. I wish we would have went there on a regular night when they just served tapas, maybe they have perfected those but as for dinner it was not good, my husband left a lot of his food on the plate. The waitress was oblivious , she wasn't even checking in on us, if we needed any more wine, water ... and left our dirty plates sitting there for a long time.
We went last year for New Years and enjoyed it so much we invited some friends this year. A couple of people were disappointed. Their fish was over cooked and potatoes were dry. The meals did not come out at the same time and one was sent back as it was not received as ordered. I had the pasta and was very happy. The staff were not very well organized and it was challenging to get service. Would have liked to order more drinks but could never find our server. It was a special night being New Years but we felt the staff were overwhelmed.
The food was good, but the wine is overpriced. We had a great experienced in general.
Was amazing food and loved the place:) will come back for sure
We went for Thursday Ladies Night. It was excellent value and the service was outstanding. I would definitely go again.
Tried Next Door out for our anniversary. Started with the charcuterie and it was tasty and large portion. We moved on to a few tapas and were somewhat disappointed with our selections. Aside from our charcuterie, we found the food was mediocre and over valued. The restaurant was not overly busy for a Saturday night and we found it a bit too quiet for our taste. We could hear every conversation going on around us. The service was attentire and professional. The decor and furniture was lovely. Worth a try, may have a better experience than us.
Server was super rude, she couldn't tell me where the men's bathroom was. I asked about gifts certificates and she said she didn't know and just took them from me and never returned them, I had to ask about it when she handed me the bill. She also made fun of not wanting to drink so I could take my friends home safely, told me I should have taken a Cab.
We have been a number of times and it’s always a lovely experience. Food always enjoyable and service top notch! Nice atmosphere - good for friends gathering or a date night.
Dinner out with friends was a fantastic experience here - we left all the decisions up to our waiter and the chef. The shareable food kept on coming and there a substantial amount of wine consumed too!
First of all the service was amazing. Our server gave us plenty of recommendations of both wine and food that were all completely spot on! We had a selection of tapas that all tasted absolutely amazing, and the portion sizes were bigger than expected compared to the teenie tiny plates at other fine dining tapas restaurants. Dessert was also definitely worth not skipping as well. Everything is made from scratch in house and that extra touch makes a big difference. All around a wonderful experience, and I will absolutely be coming back!
Food was excellent; service very attentive. We would go back for sure
This was our second visit and the food, wine and service have been outstanding both times. An intimate and positive dining experience.
Overall, the food and experience was delightful. Portions, for the most part, were reasonable. Very attentive service. Original signature drinks. Like Nona's, but updated. Just wish there was more brule, on the creme brule. And more cheese, with the Flaming Cheese.
I should start by mentioning that we booked our reservation late, but were happy to get a table. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The food was outstanding and the Charcuterie plate included some additional items, not on the menu. We had a nice bottle of wine based on their recommendation. The service was a little slow and the noise level was high. Likely due to the large ticketed event in one corner. Overall a nice time and would visit again.
Food was fantastic, service was great. We sat outside but the interior was beautiful. We will definitely be back!
Food was ok, but quite inconsistent. A couple of the desserts tastes stale so we sent them back. The servers did not know about wine and could not advise, and they were out of the first four (4!) bottles we tried to order. This place can barely attest to being tapas - wine bar is a lie. Have friends who have gone and loved it, so maybe we experienced a very off night.
Great neighborhood restaurant! Food is fantastic.
Next Door Wine Bar is a hidden gem in South Calgary. You can enjoy tapas and great wine without having to go downtown. The service has always been excellent and their food is delicious. It has a nice quiet ambiance and is perfect for a date night out or appies and wine with the ladies.
Food was fresh and the taste was amazing. Will he back again
We were worried we would have to make alternate plans when we arrived for our reservation to find the place closed because the building had lost power. Luckily before we decided to go anywhere else the power came back on. Thank goodness it did! We had the Italian platter, deep fried lobster ravioli, tuna crudo, bruschetta flatbread, gamberetti, chicken bites, chocolate mousse and the apple crisp melt away. All fantastic! It's a great way to have a social dinner amongst a group of friends.
I'm a fan of the food here and at their other restaurant, Toscana. Friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff.
Great food and atmosphere. The love music was a treat. The service was slow, and unenthusiastic.
I had never been here before but Toscana was busier than usual so they took us Next Door...it's literally right next door (same owner). I was very impressed, the restaurant itself is very different from Toscana...modern and beautifully decorated. The menu was different too.. They have a bunch of different tapas and everything we tried was phenomenal . Highly recommend the calamari, tuna crudo oh and the flaming cheese.... they set it on fire right in front of you. We will definitely be back!
