There were 5 of us for a friend’s birthday. It was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday eve. Good experience. Staff was perfectly attentive and personable. Lamb shank, chicken, and salmon were really good. Presentation of the scallop shooter was nice but scallop should be larger to bring out more flavor

The 3 of us ate at Kinship for the first time on Sunday. The restaurant itself is so pretty and modern and has comfortable seating. Our cocktails were first rate. We ordered the kale salad and honey fries for appetizers and it was the perfect combination. Out of this world. I had the pasta dish which was creamy and rich, and my husband had the lamb shank which he thought was fantastic. Our friend ordered the broccoli side dish and thought it was perfectly cooked. Our waiter was so nice. Great restaurant.

While the food was good and the setting is nice, they couldn’t accommodate our party of 7 well. I called ahead of time to make a reservation for 7 and we ended up getting seated at a small round table that could not comfortably fit 7 people. We had to move an extra chair in the end and it still was crowded. Would not recommend for large parties.

I have been here 6 times each time is interesting. My last time was for my 60th birthday celebration. We were seated in a booth which i requested. It was ok. We did not get our drink order taken for over 10 min. We got the manager he took and served our drinks and appetizer. HOWEVER , Could be due to our incomplete party. The salt and pepper shakers are set up wrong and both me and another person put salt in our food by mistake. This accident is easy since the shakers are not clear and 3 holes for salt 1 hole for pepper. The dirty martini did not come w blue cheese olives. The lamb burger is a favorite, however waiter asked if wanted cheese. We ordered without cheese but it came w feta so had to go back. Others ate while waited for burger. We told waiter about chocolate allergy. We ordered 3 eclairs which I love. However the lemon meringue came smashed between the two chocolate ones. The lemon was overwhelming in this batch so it was not that great. They gave a Birthday eclair with candle on the house. We had alot of fun but something is amiss here. There is a big disconnect w waitstaff and management. It was a Thursday eve and was very busy. Seemed to be short staffed. Nice ambiance . Need to work out the nuances. The kale and beet salad is declicious. The beef burger awesome. The pasta was just okay. Our waiter Jeff was attentive . They took the smoked cream trout and crackers off the menu which I hope they bring back!

Spectacular. We enjoyed our meal a lot. The lamb shank with lentils was to die for. The salmon Was cooked perfectly. The cabatelli with lobster was flavorful and had a great crunch with breadcrumbs. The lobster bisque was different than a traditional bisque but was high on flavor. Loved the asparagus salad as the citrus added such a clean note.

One final suggestion...order the burger. It is phenomenal. Also, order the waffle fries with honey butter. The world should be coated in honey butter.

The service was extremely attentive and provided great suggestions. The value for the quality of food was well worth it. I will be back.

Mother's Day Brunch was extremely disappointing. We had great expectations as we have had wonderful food here in the past, but the buffet was awful! Food was cold, limited options, presentation was horrible & unappetizing looking - like we were in a cafeteria.

We had made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for Mother’s Day brunch and were seated (4 of us) at a large table for 8 which made it tough to have a conversation. The wait staff spilled water on us, took away silverware prematurely and didn’t offer the complimentary drink to the mother at the table on Mother’s Day as was advertised. I’m not sure they want everyday people at the restaurant, maybe only people who look rich. I was sad to be treated poorly in Evanston as a person of color. I’m not sure I will return or recommend it.

Menu was much more interesting last time. Not enough selections this time. I was disappointed. I don't understand why you don't keep lunch and brunch separate. My friends weren't impressed. Nor was I. Also, it's too difficult to keep your hours straight. I loved Lyfe. Wish you hadn't changed. E. Baron

Lamb shank was wonderful but could be on a slightly larger skillet so as to make eating it a bit easier - scallops were great. And the best brussel sprouts We’ve had in forever ! We will e back !

Food uneven (salmon mediocre) but mostly good but not great.---except for hamburger which was terrific. Your hostess could use some coaching on her unfriendly demeanor with customers (second time with the same hostess.) Our other wait staff was really goodI would remove the sports tv's detracts from your ambiance. I would try it again.

Wonderful experience! All of the employees were super friendly. My friends and I took our time and were not rushed. I arrived early, our table wasn’t ready so I enjoyed a cup of coffee outside. The honey butter fries are amazing, a must I had the avocado toast and my friends had the veg skillet... all good. We all said we’d go back.

The food was excellent and both entrees were well executed. The honey vegetables were a real surprise.

A group of six of us had an excellent dinner.
The brussel sprouts, the broccoli and cauliflower with kumquats and the pot brownie were truly exceptional.
The restaurant is new and still needs a bit of polishing but show great promise.

Full disclosure: I am friends with the owner, though it has no impact on this review.
Great dinner. Appetizers of smoked trout spread with homemade crackers was great, as was the asparagus salad. My wife and another guest LOVED their salmon. My wife said it may have been the best salmon she's ever had, and this woman eats as much salmon as a brown bear. Another member of our party had the honey roasted (root, et. al.) veggies and loved them. I had the burger, which was great. The duck fat onions can make it a bit greasy, but that's how I roll. Great fries. The pot brownie (not EXACTLY what you dispensary-goers may think) was a wonderful finish to a great meal. The dough in the eclairs was a tad heavy, but didn't diminish our feelings about the meal. Our server was great; enthusiastic, helpful and fully familiar with the all of the offerings.
Go there. Eat there. Leave happy.

We like the atmosphere here. Room for improvement. Had 8 pm reservation on a Saturday night By the time we ordered they were out of the chicken and another entree. Food is very tasty and desserts are delicious!

Went for our anniversary. Was a little skeptical of a new place, expecting they may have some kinks still to be worked out. We were pleasantly surprised. We were seated exactly at our reserved time at a cozy table. The service was excellent and, because servers are using mobile technology, the server was able to tell us they had run out of an entree as soon as she entered it into her tablet. We were able to change our order on the spot. Started with Chicken-fried scallops with a citrus slaw (could eat an entree of these); gem salad (simple but fresh and light); hanger steak with mashed potatoes and braised lamb shank with fried lentils for entrees (both exceptionally well prepared); delicious Malbec with dinner: an Austrian style apple streudel with vanilla ice cream and a “pot” brownie with Mint Chip ice cream to finish things off. And, because the timing of our salads was off slightly, we were given one of their homemade eclairs to take home (we chose lemon marengue). It was delicious too. Their branding and customer experience are top notch. Before we arrived home, we received an email thanking us for coming and giving us points in their frequent diner club.

Have already made plans to return. This is a delicious and much-needed addition to Evanston.

This was our second visit to kinship, first time for dinner.

The good:
Best apple strudel i have ever tasted
Excellent table service and service in general
Nice decor, minus the tvs
Excellent burgers and perfect fries
Delicious kale salad
Tasty brussel sprouts app, but a hair salty and possibly overcooked
Food arrived hot and promptly
Common sense cocktail was refreshing, but generally, did not care for the other cocktails my companions ordered.

Not so good:
rotisserie chicken...tasted like roasted and only included breast meat. did not have the fall off the bone silkiness of any rotisserie chicken i have eaten and that includes the ones at whole foods. Nothing special flavorwise and not what i expected. Would have liked a potato option that was not deep fried or mashed..how bout putting potatoes in bottom of rotisserie and serving those? a potato galette, roasted yukons or even a dauphinois would also be preferred.

For some odd reason, the beef burger is 2 slim patties instead of one thick one, so server would not guarantee medium rare. Thats unacceptable. But the patties came out reasonably pink.

Ok, here is where i have to dig my heels in: the tvs. This is not a sports bar but the tv was on in the bar playing a cubs game. Tv is the last thing i want to see in any adult restaurant. There was also one in the main dining area. If that ever goes on when i am eating there, i will get up and walk out.

tho we made a reservation, we were initially asked to sit at a table in the bar. I refuse to eat in the bar, especially with a tv going, but also because its just not a comfortable space for eating.

Finally, the hallowed eclairs. None of us were impressed, found the pastry kind of doughy, but i prefer millefeuille in that realm.

I do think Kinship is a good addition to the neighborhood and has potential. I hope they work out the kinks, lose the tvs, add more light in main dining atea, and expand their menu and cocktail menu.

Love this space! The rotunda allows for a light and airy feeling through the restaurant. The decor has been reimagined with cool and modern lighting, comfy banquettes, and window seats for nearly everyone. The menu is creative but accessible. The honey butter glazed waffle fries are to die for! The seafood pasta is excellent, as is the veggie Thai curry bowl. The burger is one of the best around as well. Can’t wait to dine here again.

Waiter kept rushing us to order yet the tables never turned and there was no one waiting so this was pointless and annoying. Lighting level in restaurant changed numerous times. As if someone was leaning up against light switch. kale salad was very stiff. Roasted chicken was overdone. Apple strudel needed forks but they never came.
