    my aunts from N.S., who dont really get a chance to enjoy a verity of foods prepared by a chef found the experience enlightening. My wife and myself always enjoy the food and drinks. look forward to the NEXT visit. rgds TP

    The food was excellent as well as the service. The noise level is somewhat annoying...too much of an echo all evening. There are no soft services to absorb the loudness.

    We had the chef's choice tasting menu, 8 courses served in several waves and it was amazing. The chef chose amazing, delicious and interesting things for us. The meal was an indulgent gastronomical joy. The service was excellent, knowledgeable staff, just attentive enough.

    All I can say is wow!! We had a great evening celebrating our anniversary. The blind sharing was amazing! The food was so tasty and interesting. The service was great along with the ambience. Don't hesitate to try the blind sharing menu it makes dining fun. Thank you Chef Blackie and all your staff.

    Delicious second visit for a special occasion! Flavours were vibrant, bright, citrusy. Last time, we had tried the blind tasting menu. This time, we sampled a number of the other dishes this menu had to offer, such as the morel mushroom cavatelli (definitely a must try!!), the ribeye tartare, the tempura fried green beans + prawns (the Thai curry sauce had some nice heat to it), and Blackie’s crispy chicken. Looking forward to a third visit in near future.

    Always a great place to eat, the blind menu is always fun and a la carte never disappoints either. Service is spot on everytime and the food doesn't disappoint.

    A little disappointed in the duck confit, I’ve had better elsewhere, The mash & cherry lick were very good. Service was excellent & friendly. Beautiful decor. Thankyou.

    We were a party of four - 2 folk had short ribs, and one had rib eye and the other had the chicken schnitzel. Our waitress was excellent, very attentive, and knew the menu well enough to make recommendations and warn about potential food allergies. Both of the short rib dishes had the same complaint - stringy meat. The rib eye eater complained of a lack of taste to his beef. The chicken schnitzel was excellent - well prepared with a savoury sauce & tender gnocchi. We also had 2 orders of oysters which were excellent and two orders of Gochugaru Yukon fries which were superb. Presentation was excellent, the service was very swift, and the temperature of the food was perfect. The value for money was not so favourable, but maybe that is the new reality of restaurant meals in Ottawa. If we return we will stay away from the beef dishes and sample some of the other tempting fare.

    Absolutely a great experience. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a smile and brought to our table. Within minutes our awesome waiter Mike came to the table to us and to see what we wanted to drink. He was very outgoing, personable and explained what was in each of our dishes (We had the blind sharing dinner) We also had a bottle of wine which was always topped up and chilled in between glasses. Each of our dishes were full of flavour, sweet, savoury and a little bold. They were presented beautifully on the plates. The desert was the perfect pairing to our meal to finish it off on a high note. It was absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were perfect and we were full by the end of the meal. We were also lucky to be able to meet Chef Blackie, what a great guy. He came over to our table and he talked to us like we’ve known him for ages, talking about family and life experiences. Definitely a guy I would sit down with to have a beer and watch a game with. He’s a hard working man, something I can respect. As we left and passed by the kitchen we thanked all of the cooks/sou chefs which were all responsive and even thanked us for coming in which really shows that they are there for the customers and truly understand that without customers there is no business. The pricing was on point, I actually thought that they could charge more. You get what you pay for and so we were very pleased. Overall it is a must to go to, not just for the food but the overall experience. We will be going back and anyone questioning if they should go, should. 100% praise to the whole staff.     I've been many times and it just isn't as good as it once was. The food was good, but you expect better than good. There are no mocktails or any 0 percent beers for one of the people at our table, which is behind the times and show a lack of understanding the current trends.

    It’s good in general, but not as luxurious as expected. The blind sharing menu, we would conclude, it’s a bit too expensive, not worth the value, most items are just from the menu. Costs over $200 for $140 value meal.

    Having never been to NEXT before this was a real treat. Our food was excellent. Our server too was wonderful (Emma?). I was disappointed we were unable to use our gift cards for tax and tip and could not have the remaining amount subtracted from one of the cards. We were told this was because they were purchased at Costco.

    I hate leaving less than stellar reviews, but this was our second time at Next & it was, again, really mediocre. Our waitress was not personable & it really just felt like she did not want to be there. It was too loud for my parents to be able to have full conversations & only a few dishes were memorable (but those few dishes were delicious!). Sadly, I don’t think that we would go back again.

    Server would disappear regularly Too many smoke breaks would be my guess Never asked if we wanted more drinks, never offered tea or coffee at dessert. Forgot a drink order at the beginning. Brought plates out one at a time leaving the 6th guest to wait while the steak they ordered continues to cook. Zero hustle.

    We have heard ravings about NeXT over the years, and finally decided it was time to experience it for ourselves. We were greeted by Chef Blackie upon entrance, which was surprising and nice. The ambiance of the dining room was a cool, open and modern feel, but also somewhat relaxed. We did the blind menu tasting, which was definitely filling, and left no room for extra add-ons. My gf dislikes cilantro, and they were thoughtful enough to put it on the side. The fennel salad was refreshing, the bao buns were very good. I will say that the cod and the miso braised beef were the winners of the night. Service was professional, drinks were good. Overall, we did enjoy our first experience. It was nice to see energetic staff in an open kitchen smiling, and a Chef being present. We would try again but ‘next’ time, for a special occasion and maybe when there is a new menu to change it up.

    Great food and service. Wasn't too busy on the weekday we attended. Had the blind tasting 8 course menu and wine flight. Pairings were very good and had a good portion of food.

    2 of us had the sharing selection — fabulous!! Would be nice to see more coziness and booths instead of such an open concept. Maybe some nicer tables (we had 2 pushed together that were different heights). Just something missing from the ambience but the food was great.
