Nicholas B&R is always excellent. The service, ambience and food were great. An overall great experience.
This is not my first visit to Nicholas. I’ve been a big fan for years and do love the new look & menu. As always, the service is top notch. Cocktails (old fashion) was Perfectly made. The food was not the best on our last visit. We ordered a small plate of the gnocchi— very strange dish. Would not recommend. I ordered the onion soup, very tasty. My entree was the poached lobster with corn pudding. It was not a pudding, it was succotash and had more red peppers than corn. The lobster was not good. Possibly just a bad night as we’ve eaten many menu items and always been very happy. My husband had the short ribs, which he typically loves. But they were dry and tasteless last night.
Great restaurant. Food is terrific. Drinks and wine are in the high side compared to other restaurants locally.
Celebration of my birthday.
Menus is one page (a good thing) makes choice easy.
Pescatarians (us) easily find find choices in all courses.
Food: grilled swordfish for me, halibut for my date were you n a word - delicious. The sauces were scrumptious.
Service was fast and courteous.
Restaurant space and ambiance were most welcoming, but noise level (conversations and background music free m another room) a bit loud. Not obtrusive, but nearing.
Overall. An Excellent value and a most enjoyable experience.
Excellent meal as usual. Staff was very accommodating as we were running late.
Food, service, and ambiance was great. Went at lunchtime during week. We sat outside which was pleasant except for busy highway out front. We’ll sit indoors next time.
Our first time at Nicholas since the transition to Nicholas Barrel and Roost. A totally different experience but still up to the high levels that the original Nicholas maintained.
Wide variety of menu options and everything we tried was delicious. Same high standards of service as in the pre-pandemic period.
There was no shortage of staff which would imply that not only does Nicholas have it down when it comes to the physical renovations and menu changes that have occurred but also must have it down when it comes to personnel management.
We have always enjoyed dining here but the changes have made it a place that we will choose more frequently instead of considering it a “special occasion” restaurant.
Everything excellent . Sarah’s service outstanding
Nicholas Barrel and Roost was excellent! The service was the best we’ve had in a long time. Jim, our server, was spot on with recommendations of food, since it was our first time, and fast, no waiting for anything. Water, wine, ordering, he was on it! And, it was my wife’s birthday, so he brought out a surprise when our desert was brought to our table. This place is classy, and very much worth checking out! I would recommend it!
Great brunch and service!
Had a great brunch with my family on Sunday. I got the lobster roll with pomme frites (ask for the roost sauce for dipping) my son got avocado toast & my husband loved his Nicholas burger and bloody barrel! A special shout-out to waiter Ryan!
Delicious! We loved the old Nicholas...but this is terrific in a completely different way. Relaxed and energetic. Upscale but not pretentious. Great food and fun atmosphere.
The food is terrific but this is the second time we have come to dinner in the last few weeks and feel totally rushed through the meal.
Such a great place. The reno has done wonders for the establishment. The owner visited our table several times as did his son who is the cutest thing ever!
Everything was AMAZING! Great atmosphere and service is always outstanding. Food is wonderful!
Food was good they just kinda oversold the burger, expected more out of it from the menu description. But even still the food was great, service was great, and the vibe was great. Would go back anytime
Loved the food
Great food, good service
The food is great and so is the service. However, we arrived on time for our reservation, but unfortunately, our reserved table was not ready until 25 minutes later. The only option we were given was to buy drinks from the outdoor bar. I'd recommend if you don't mind waiting.
We have been here multiple occasions. Tonite was beyond a disappointment. It was very busy and required us to park blocks away in an a neighborhood where we had a note on windshield from a disgruntled neighbor. We had to wait 15+ for our table with a reservation.. The swordfish was so salty it was not edible and our son asked that we not complain that evening. The woman serving us was awesome however secondary-staff was not qualified delivering wrong meals to our table or incomplete. It was the busiest night I have seen restaurant for a Thursday. Nicholas was absent that evening. I may not return for quite some time.as quality of food and value lacked. I have been a very satisfied customer of restaurant in past and a wine client for a long time. The dining experience was far below acceptable. Please step up quality and deliver value.I understand a restaurant can have a off night so hopefully that was the case.
One of our new go-to places in Monmouth county. You can get a great burger or a fabulous piece of steak or seafood. Love the grilled oysters!
My wife and I had a fantastic lunch. For me it could have been the best burger that I have ever had. The service was excellent. The whole eating experience is what you hope for all the time!
Had an amazing experience, as usual!
AOK - all the way! Always delightful in every way.
We had lunch there today. Awesome food. Nice atmosphere. Newly renovated. Service was very good.
Nothing to say except all good things! Food, service and excellent waiter named Connor.
I made an outdoor reservation for the Sunday dinner, but when we got there, we were told we have to wait for at least 30 more minute as it's first come first serve now. If that's the case they should clearly state that on the reservation page. Asked to speak to the manager, he came and only said he understood then walked away. Hope the owner can read my review and maybe send his staff to the Danny Meyer hospitality group for some training......
We will not be going back again, not worth it when they don't know how to treat people even they made a mistake.
Great meal, as always!
Our waiter Ryan , was fantastic and very funny too.
Love the halibut but was disappointed that I couldn’t get it during Sunday brunch. Had the lobster roll instead and my father had the burger. They were both a “10”. I came all the way from Brooklyn to take my father there for his 85 bday.
Amazing food - amazing drinks and atmosphere. Servers were excellent.
Bar was noisy but where we were seated was great service slowed a little as room filled up food was excellent perfect portions
First time back since the redo. Fabulous food and wines, creative menu options, rustic-casual atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor options for sesting and bar - self-parking, too.
I hope they find a less-noticable spray sanitizer for tables between patrons...we tasted it while we were eating.
We will be back for sure!
Everything was amazing! The oysters and the lobster stole the show!
Always a pleasure to dine at Chef Nicholas’s restaurants. As always the service, ambiance and above all Food & Drinks are fantastic. Tried the Brunch. We ordered toast sampler, lobster rolls, French Toast and Bloody Mary’s. Delicious. Of course we will be back.
The waiter was very rushed and he rushed us. Then two things that we ordered were delayed I think because he wasn’t paying attention. I was disappointed
We go here regularly when we want a great meal, service and ambience. for us, it always been consistent
Fabulous dinner !!! Never disappoints !
Had a 6:45PM reservation on Wednesday night. Crowed and very noisy in all rooms.
Overall was good. Short Ribs were very short on any seasoning for $32. Bolognese was large but sauce needed more seasoning and you would think a small bread would accompany the dish but no. Roasted Chicken was good and the Nicholas Burger was the best option! Overall pricing is high but expect that at Nicholas. Service is very good and the servers and hostess work hard.
Cannot beat the food nor the atmosphere. Understated elegance and a great vibe. Service was excellent, attentive and very knowledgeable. Wine list pairing was spot on. Casual in appearance, but sophisticated menu. Ask for wine pairing suggestion, they are spot on.
Great vibe etc..... a must go often great food and ambience
