This is my favourite restaurant in the city to bring guests because the food is phenomenal and unique. However the service is consistently incredibly slow and it can ruin the experience. My boss and I waited 45min for our food and there were no water or drink refills! Not sure if understaffed or just don't care.. will STILL come here for the food but it's a big factor
Absolutely delicious food! Everything on the vegan platter was amazing. Injera was super tasty. This place is cozy with a great ambience. Love it. Only thing that could make it better is more injera and $18 each for he platter is a bit pricey
Fantastic food and great ambiance. Loved it. Best Ethiopian food I have had.
Pretty spot. Warm and inviting staff. We weren’t rushed, it was nice to linger. The food was fine, not outstanding. Note: the prices online are old (the Misto Misto is not $19 per person, but $23).
We really enjoyed the food. Nice Restaurant. The food had the right amount of spice. Great ambiance
Such great tasting food. Nunu is a fantastic cook.
One of our favourite restaurants in Toronto. Prepare to get your hands dirty:)
Been to Nunu at least 4 times now and every time I remember why I keep coming back!
I've ordered the Misto Misto platter, kitfo, and the doro wat. All delicious!
I loved the food and getting to eat with my hands!
Always Amazing! Made our special night even more special. Thank you again.
After Naz closed down i've been searching for my new spot for Ethiopian. Nunu more than fits the bill. Delicious food and a tad elevated from some of the traditional spots in town. Definitely will be back to crush my Ethiopianv craving.
I reserved using opentable and called them 4-5 times to confirm but the lady at the other end either kept disconnecting or didn’t hear. 5 mins before I was to reach, I called the restaurant to confirm my reservation again. They said - sorry we can’t serve you food because we are closing early because it is raining and we are sending our staff home. I asked him why he didn’t inform me via the Opentable app, he said that he’d have to go to the computer for that and that he didn’t have time to do that. Utterly unprofessional and no matter how profusely he apologised, I still had to find another restaurant at 10:30 pm on a rainy Thursday. Never going back.
Best Ethiopian food in North America. Nunu is a lovely host and her food is outstanding.
Great food, but still hungry afterwards. We got the meat platter and the veggie platter. Server did not seem like she wanted to be there. But very cute place and bar.
The food here is very good, but unfortunately overpriced. We were disappointed that several of the menu items we asked for were unavailable. The people who work there seemed a little disorganized, despite knowing that we were going to arrive for dinner (we had made a reservation).
Awesome food! Yummy Ethiopian coffee! Thanks Nunu ☺️
Awesome as always.....thanks Nunu
Very pleasant and friendly service, delicious food.
A lovely place with not only great Ethiopian food but really good cocktails as well.
Amazing food as always! Love the new renos!
I was disappointed once again by the food at Nunu. I ate there a couple of years ago and found it wanting. Much better Ethiopian food to be had for less money in less trendy neighbourhoods in the city. This will be my last visit.
great food and friendly service.
Amazing food and great service!!!
Food was overly salty and not as flavourful as Ethiopian food should be. Service was slow and inattentive.
I’m impressed and SOOoooOo stuffed! My friend and I both ordered the meat & veggies tasting platter which came out on one huge tray. Very good injera bread, even yummier lamb, chicken drumstick and lentils. Even the salad dressing was quite tasty. Friendly service from the owners.
Nunu has lots of good little tables for 2, dim but cool lighting cast from the neon “Cocktail Bar” sign behind the bar.
When other friends are visiting from outta town, I’ll be sure to bring them here. Can’t beat Ethiopian to switch things up cuisine-wise.
Wonderful food, ambience and service. Highly recommended.
The food was good but the service here is atrocious. The servers are unfriendly and unwelcoming. They make zero attempts to try to orient you to the menu or food or how the sharing platters work. They simply assume you know what you are getting. When the platters arrived at our table, they did not put in any effort to explain what was what especially considering we have a mix of vegetarians and non-vegetarians in our group.
Nice dinner out with the wife....nice people and delicious food but very small portions....would have given it a higher rating if the portions would have been more generous.....in all fairness if you have a smaller appetite it may be fine for you.....
My wife and I keep coming back. Great food as always.
Food was good - i find ethiopian food generally tastes pretty similar anywhere you go - but i liked it. Biggest issue is the doorway as the restaurant is freezing in the winter since they only have a single door and a curtain. Clearly they are trying to deal with the situation with the curtain and a number of space heaters, but to be honest it isn't working. In the summer I am sure it is great, but not a good spot if its cold out!
Lovely, relaxed place.
Good mix of traditional Ethiopian food with a touch of Toronto hipsterism (this is Queen West after all).
Friendly staff and bright, flavourful food.
The chicken drumstick in the mixed plate was so tender and flavourful you could drink it through a straw.
Delicious Ethiopian coffee presented with all the smoke, steam, and pageantry you could ask for.
My only complaint is that I would have expected a bit more quantity to match the quality at the price point. This was the priciest Ethiopian meal I've had in the city (still not THAT expensive), and the only one I left a bit hungry.
This was the saddest, worst experience I have ever had with a reservation. No one acknowledged us at the door for 10 mins until I yelled "Hello!?" then I was told there was no space for 30-45 mins. When I corrected the woman at the door, letting her know I actually had a reservation her face turned to panic, she lead me to the bar and refused to take my name down - basically meaning I was not going to get my reservation honoured. The bartender than proceeded to make 2 cocktails (at snails pace may I add) in front of us without offering us anything first. My friend and I walked out after being there for 25 mins, without receiving menus, water or even so much as a welcoming smile. PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT RESERVATIONS IF YOU DONT WANT TO HONOUR THEM, and for the love of god give people water and menus when they arrive. It takes two seconds. It makes the difference. Very sad, I was really looking forward to trying your food.
Great food! Great experience! Thank you! Will be back with other friends/family
Horrible experience. You should NOT list restaurants with your service that do not honor your reservations. We arrived on time and were left standing in the doorway waiting to be seated. The hostess is also apparently the waitress and also the expediter and restaurant owner. The bartender attempts to fill in but is also basically useless. After a 20 minute wait and starring at an empty table that had yet to be cleaned we left. Again, what is the point of accepting an open table reservation if you are not going to honor it.
The food was simply delicious, every single dish we tried. Spices were used skillfully and the flavours very well balanced and satisfying.
The service was also very friendly.
And the atmosphere was relaxing and allowed quiet conversation and fun times.
The only disappointment came from the wine. I tried the two Italian reds and one felt corked while the other simply didn't taste good to me.
Still, I would totally recommend this restaurant and plan to get back next time I am in its vicinity.
We love authenticate Ethiopian cuisine - this is a great representation. Nice atmosphere including service from a nicely run family business.
We arrived via taxi from our hotel, so excited to partake. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed, doors locked, lights out even though our reservation was confirmed. The hours on the door were accurate but it was closed anyway. We were so sad! Not sure if it's permanently closed or what? Why as our reservation taken? Open table or Nunu?
We love this restaurant. The food is delicious, and the place is great for both everyday fining and date nights.
First time at an Ethiopian restaurant and we loved it! The service was prompt and the food was very tasty. Be prepared to use your hands (we ordered the vegetarian tasting menu), although you could ask for silverware if you desire.
We have eaten at a number of Ethiopian restaurants in Toronto but this was our first visit to NuNu's. I selected it because we are vegan but we were meeting with family who are meat eaters. The menu worked perfectly for all of us! Each dish was different and tasty with a good level of spiciness. The space is not too big (although they do have a well-stocked bar!) so the noise level didn't stop us from being able to speak with each other. Great service too.
Food was great but hope they can improve a bit in the service.
