   Not sure what has happened to Obon. We showed up for our scheduled reservation and we probably waited about 15 minutes at the hostess stand before we were greeted. When we were finally greeted, the woman informed us that she was the only server on for the evening - she was also the only one working the bar and seating tables. No joke one server, trying to do all the jobs in the restaurant. Clearly, I don’t blame her as she was literally the only one to show up for work that night. We decided to leave. Such a shame because we do love coming to this location. Don’t think we will be back.

   This was a late night stop after a long event and we were right on time for reverse happy hour (8pm-close). The food was okay/good. The Tonkatsu ramen wasn’t very flavorful and I don’t know if it was because of the time we arrived (8:30pm) or it we got a bad batch. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad either. The spicy tuna and salmon rolls were good. They hit the spot and tasted pretty fresh. The cucumber salad isn’t marinated but more so fresh cucumber barely coated in the chili pepper. The service was also okay/decent. He checked in about 3 times during our visit. Wasn’t very attentive to the check as I had to go back for corrections (food wasn’t priced at happy hour prices). It was taken care of once brought up. Overall, it’s a decent place to stop in. I hope your experience will be better than mine.

   We used to frequent Obon at the grove very often and loved there sushi. Now Not anymore. Prices went up and quality went down. Don’t wait your money on their Poke bowl total rip off.

   Careful sitting on the outside benches. I got splinters on the back of my legs from them. Also the service was slow and decidedly nonchalant. We ordered uni, it never showed up, it wasn’t on the bill but you’d think that maybe they would let us know if they were out of it? Maybe we would have ordered more food. We also ordered the cucumber salad. The ingredients were fresh but it was not a well composed salad and definitely executed well. The cucumbers were very thick slices and had almost no seasoning/dressing on them. The pork belly appetizer was really good. My spam and kimchi fried rice was also good. Cocktails were good.

    Had an early dinner Tuesday night with the wife. Was rather disappointed this time as usually my dish is fresh including the rice. This time, it seemed the entrees were from last Saturday. It’s unfortunate. We didn’t say anything as the service level also fell to a new low. Maybe it was an “off “ night, but as potential “regular” clients you’d think there would be better checks and balances to ensure their high ratings.

    This was our first time at Obon. The staff was great as well as the service. The sushi was spot on and fresh. They have nice patio seating and is dog friendly. A good local restaurant.

    The food was excellent, the service was great. We have eaten there a number of times and will continue to eat there. The atmosphere was not as good as the food and service. That would not keep us from eating again. All in all, we enjoy eating there and will continue to do so.

    The food was pretty good but as other commenters have posted, the service is still pretty terrible. We were not the only table receiving apologies for the long wait either. Not sure if it was one server in particular or the kitchen being back up but there were quite a few unhappy customers in one specific area. We were sat and when the server finally came over we gave them our order coke, tea, 1 bao bun, 1 sushi roll and a ramen. The coke and the roll were forgotten. Someone else brought our food, refilled our drinks and ran our credit card… it all turned out to be fairly amusing. It was a Sun night and only about 10 tables in the whole place. It would have been nice to blame the service on them being slammed but…

    The food at Obon is always great! My date and I split an order of salmon nigiri and yellowtail nigiri…. Both excellent. Our server was sweet and attentive. I had the tonkotsu ramen… very tasty. My date had the Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich and loved it. The ambiance was energetic and a little noisy but nothing that would keep us from going back.

    My boyfriend and I decided to make last-minute reservations for New Year’s Eve and luckily for us a OBON had an opening. It was at 8 PM and it happen to be happy hour. I have dined here quite a few times and I have such a great experience every time, but this time I feel like they leveled up their food, I honestly could not stop saying oh my gosh this is so delicious. We were super happy and will now be craving every appetizer they have. Super friendly staff. And great energy.

    Our food was very good and our waiter was very nice and seemed to be doing his best, however our overall service was very slow. I’m not sure if they are understaffed, but it seemed like there were two servers for the entire restaurant and no host or bussers. We had a reservation and waited nearly ten minutes before we were even greeted by someone at the front. Great food and great service when our waited had time for us, but he seemed to be bussing, seating, and serving which caused everything to take a long time.

    Reservations for (4) at 5:45, not that busy at all. We sat down and shortly after (5 min ) so did 2 other tables of 3 & 4 people. They ordered their drinks first and got them before we even ordered our drinks. Apps came out fast but food came out staggered and not all together. Typically at any sushi restaurant I have been to, the sushi is always first as it faster to make, not the case here, ramen and chicken fried rice were first, then 8 minutes later sushi came out after waiting 40 minutes for our food after we ate our apps and we ordered it all at the same time. Food was good but service was below average, next time we will try the Scottsdale Q location. I hate to tip low, especially at the holiday time, but the service left me no choice. We were finished at 7:30, way to late when we were seated at 5:45.

    We sat for at over 15 minutes and watched everyone get taken care of, water refilled etc while we didn’t even get water to begin. It was like they were serving around us. I finally had to get up and ask if someone was going to help us and then waited another almost 10 minutes before someone did. Disappointed, kids and I were having a nice night until this. The ramen I was served was cold, and I let them know and was told I was wrong and they serve it hot. The rest of the food was good. We won’t be back.

    Have been to Obon many times and have always had a great meal. This last visit with my wife and daughter was no exception. Had the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice Cake, the Yuzu Yellowtail and the Obon Edamame for appetizer. Dinner was Miso Black Cod and the Japanese Golden Curry with Tofu. Food was excellent all around. Our server was amazing and very attentive. If we had any negative issue at all it was the speed at which our food came out of the kitchen. Very Slow. I am not sure if this is a hangover from the post pandemic staffing issues but the restaurant was more than 2/3 empty while were were there. The kitchen couldn't have been busy. And the noise level was pretty high likely because of the lack of people in the open space AND the echos from the folks watching Monday Night Football in the bar. Anyway, we'll go back. Nice people. Great food. I can stand a little noise and slow food delivery.
