While I don't recommend the restaurant the balsamic and oil tasting area was top notch. The food was just okay and didn't justify the price but the kicker was the time it took to get our food. We arrived at 12 and left at 3 pm. 20 minutes of this was checking out the balsamic and oil offerings at the bar after we left the table so let's say it took us 2:30 hours to get lunch in a restaurant that was not busy at all.
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
The service was fantastic and we all really enjoyed our meals and bought 4 bottles of the Cab Franc/Cab Sauv. We just bought another 4 bottles from the LCBO. Looking forward to going back.
Loved the innovative tapas ideas. All four diners were happy with their selections.
What a nice spot to enjoy a beautiful location with delicious food and wine. The staff was informative and pleasant to interact with. We enjoyed the night very much and recommend for a nice, relaxing evening.
Amazing food and service. Loved the waiters recommendations.
Our favorite place in Niagara on the lake. Good fod. Ambiance. Love their olive oils and balsamics
Hands down the best patio in Niagara-on-the-Lake ! Beautiful spot to sit. The food and service was top notch. I had the gnocchi and it was delicious.
The restaurant staff make it an excellent experience.
I have always considered this restaurant to be awesome!! On Sunday, Nathan prepared an amazing Cornish hen tapas. He presented it on gnocchi drizzled with a wonderful balsamic vinegar. For the main course, I enjoyed a pizza. The pizza is totally gourmet, the best pizza in town. I, once again, highly recommend this restaurant!!
Casual, friendly and menu items that were competently prepared.
Short drive from Niagara on the Lake, but worth it. Food is fresh and excellently prepared. Wine list is composed of Strewn Wines as the restaurant is located on the Strewn Winery property. Excellent, friendly and professional, service in a nicely decorated space. Deck is available for seating in nice weather.
I chose OLiV Tapas Bar to top off a two day getaway in Niagara on The Lake, a gift for my friend's 80th birthday. I chose it over other restaurants that were nearer to our hotel. We arrived early to taste the vinegars and planned on purchasing at least 5 bottles when we had finished our dinner. We were invited to sit at a table near to the bar as the restaurant was expecting a large party that would be noisy. We appreciated that but the rest of our experience was terrible. Our waiter appeared as friendly but was rushing about, talking and moving quickly, and we realized was not listening to us at all. We ordered our food. And enjoyed the focaccia and balsamic vinegar with olive oil as we waited. We had to catch the waiter on the fly for more bread as he whisked the plates away, not listening to what we were requesting having his own mind set, I believe. The Mediterranean salad was rather small and did not appear to have much, if any, dressing. We shared that. My friend received the fettuccine with lobster and asparagus - she thought it was tasty, but the pasta was stuck together, there was only one small lobster claw with tiny pieces of asparagus. As we had come hungry, she did eat it all. I received the Vegetarian Lasagna. It was a layer of vegetables with a small patch of cheese on top, served with roast potatoes. The entire dish was drenched in balsamic vinegar with no noodles, no sauce, no protein except for the small patch of cheese on top. I tried eating it and could not distinguish one vegetable from the other. I can not believe that any chef would make such a dish, taste it and serve it. Needless to say, I was still very hungry, and we thought we would look at the dessert menu. The waiter pretty well threw it on our table as he rushed by taking very little notice of our food complaint. The menu consisted of 4 desserts with vinegar. Needless to say we did not order any and left without purchasing the vinegar.
The server was very friendly and service was fast. A pleasant atmosphere and not loud so that we could hear each other. Our dishes were very tasty and enjoyed by all of us! We will all go back and let others know about this beautiful gem of a spot!
The Oliv restaurant has always, over the years, been my go to place for excellent service. Peter is an exceptionally knowledgeable, and personable server!! The ambiance, and cuisine are first class!! The chefs at the Oliv restaurant are second to none. This evening, Mr. Chris Moses, prepared an exquisite striploin dish with asparagus. Bottom line, I only have superlatives in my vocabulary for the Oliv restaurant! The Oliv restaurant is, without question, a rare gem in NiagaraOnTheLake!!
This was a fabulous experience. From the moment we entered I could tell this would be a great experience. Pete greeted us warmly and was exceptionally helpful, professional and really took great care in explaining the menu, wines, beers. My lobster asparagus fettuccine and my husband’s gnocchi (all homemade) were just delicious. To start we shared the goat cheese tart which was yummy and for dessert we shared the lime cheesecake which was light and also delicious. The restaurant features their own olive oils and balsamic vinegars which are skillfully incorporated into the dishes. We will definitely return!
We went on a sunny Sunday afternoon for lunch. We requested the patio and that was available. We saw 3 servers come in and out but no one acknowledged us. Katie did bring us water. The service (Michelle) was good. Not exceptional. We found the wait long for our food. The food was very good - especially the seafood trio and lambpops. However lunch - one caprese salad and 3 tapas dishes, $33 bottle of wine came to $143. We found that pricey for the amount of food served. We dine out quite often, I hope management improves things . If portions were larger (or priced slightly lower and the service was improved slightly ....this would definitely be a wonderful spot. Our lunch took almost 2 hours.
It was nice, a little expensive for what you got but tasty. It was very! Bright. Lights should be dimmed a bit for ambiance. My modified reservation didn’t come thru and I was hassled a bit despite the fact that the restaurant was empty.
Nice restaurant connected to a winery. Food was good and our waitress was very nice !!
Overall good (not great) food in a nice winery ambience. Though charging $8.50 for an espresso is a bit ridiculous.
A beautiful view to enjoy. Peter our waiter was excellent and provided us with excellent recommendations
Would have rated higher if service was consistent. We began with Korean pork belly salad, which was filling, and soup of the day, described as creamy tomato and basil, which was unfortunately thin, watery, and lacking in true flavor, esp basil.
Perhaps because we didn't order alcohol (we'd spent the day partaking of the Sip 'n Sizzle event), we were viewed as requiring less attention, but our waitress definitely spent plenty of time keeping two other couples' wine glasses filled constantly from their bottles. Maybe she was having to act as bartender also(?), but once the manager delivered our entrees, the waitress didn't show up until well after we'd finished, so if there had been an issue with our food, we would have had to flag someone else down.
Thankfully, the entrees were tasty - Seafood Trio, a nicely portioned plate, and Carnitas, while a small portion, was full of a variety of tastes, as Oliv generously utilizes their oils and vinegars to complement their dishes. By taste, it wasn't obvious that it was a carnitas dish, but it was what I would refer to as a 'small plate', and had a combination of flavors. It is worth noting that both the black bean smear and sweet corn puree were quite cool in temperature, which is always perplexing when plated for a hot meal.
When the waitress finally reappeared, she simply shoved 2 dessert menus in front of us before taking off again. Once dessert and the bill were brought to the table, she was all smiles again, just in time for the bill to be paid...must have been an off night for her, but her mood affected our enjoyment. We'll stick w/brunch or lunch on any future visits...
Also confusing, she had us sit side-by-side at a table for four on the opposite side of the narrow room by ourselves, saying that the only table she had for two was in a place where we wouldn't be able to see out the windows as well, yet other couples after us sat right by the window, where the view was easier to see. Hmm,,,
I have been coming to this restaurant for many years. The quality of service, ambiance, and cuisine are second to none. The servers are amazingly personable, and knowledgeable about the food and wine. I enjoyed, immensely, the lobster fettuccine. The Oliv restaurant is a hidden gem of delight in an amazing town!! I highly recommend this restaurant for the foodie who expects nothing less than fine cuisine at a very high standard!!
The food was excellent. We both ordered a tapa, one with soup before and the other, salad. Both of is were very happy with the quality and quantity. Everything was very fresh. Service was excellent as well. I look forward to going again.
We enjoyed a lovely evening and great meal at OLIV with friends from Nova Scotia. Our server, Peter, did a great job in recommending menu items, portions and wine. We'll definitely be back and encourage others to give OLIV a try.
Special experience and gourmet food.
Oliv is part of the Strewn Winery in NOTL. It's a pleasant and welcoming venue. while waiting for my date, I enjoyed looking over the multitude of olive oils they sell and various wines they produce.Dinner was a treat. My date had a beautifully done steak while I opted for two Tapas plates. Both dinners were delightful. if you're looking for a charming, "out of the way" place, this is it! I would recommend it.
The food was OK, absolutely nothing special and way overpriced for what it was. Wine tasting room bar tender was great and very knowledgeable and the overall service was good.
Great place to relax with friends and family. Staff is always attentive and the food is fresh and there is something for everyone.
Perfect place to stop & enjoy lunch on our way to see to the SHAW Festival...friendly staff & wonderful food!
We love the restaurant and the winery - beautiful setting, great food and wine and service, and always a delicious treat to enjoy their olive oil and balsamic with a meal. Today the meal was ended with the most amazing balsamic/chocolate truffle. Looking forward to a few visits during the Shaw Festival season.
I booked this dinner based solely on tripadvisor NOTL restaurants reviews. The experience matched the expectation level set in the web review. Ambiance - great. Food - very good selection, variety, quantity. Service - our server 'Kit' was everything a professional server must represent. Knowledgeable of f&b, suggestive, descriptive, attentive, personable. I would recommend OLiV highly! My only negative comment - prices were a little higher than I anticipated. I would like to return, particularly in the summer months, and sit out on the patio and enjoy your beautiful surroundings. Simply .... thank you!
This place never fails to deliver fresh delicious food! The vegetarian lasagna is delectable! Leave room for dessert!!!
As I have mentioned, in a number of previous reviews, I enjoy coming to this restaurant often. Tonight, the chef, Chris Moses, did an outstanding “job” (can’t think of a better word at the moment) with my chicken dish. The presentation, and taste were awesome!! Prices of food have recently gone up about 20 percent, so the value has dipped from outstanding to very good. I had the good fortune of having Peter looking after me, Happy about that. Not happy about the wine tourist industry taking control of a wonderful restaurant. I’ll keep coming for now!!
What a lovely little restaurant. Nice peaceful view of the water. Our waiter Peter was very friendly and accommodating. The new menu is outstanding as both our orders were exceptionally delicious. Highly recommended if you are visiting the Niagara region.
I have been enjoying the food, service, and ambiance of this restaurant for many wonderful years!! This evening’s Salmon bisque was absolute perfection in flavour, and creamy texture. And the truffle drizzled gnocchi was wonderful. The service is always warm, and friendly. I love dining at this restaurant, and highly recommend it to everyone!!
Excellent menu and quality. Great service.
Very clean, very nice, and good service. Food was good and plenty!!! Highly recommended
Delicious wine and dinner. Their balsamic is second to none!
We visited the Niagara Falls area during Easter weekend and we were very excited to try this place. Unfortunately we all agreed that it was very disappointing experience from every aspect- very small wine selection, the food is over rated, they ran out of several dishes including the portobello mushrooms and salmon and the service was slow. We waited about half an hour for the main course although the restaurant wasn’t even half full.
