Oma's Hideaway is a vibrant, maximalist restaurant inspired by the life and spirit of Chef Thomas Pisha Duffly's grandmother, Kiong Tien “Tina” Vandenberg. Her ability to adapt, to make the most out of limited resources, and to stay creative while projecting warmth and brightness is the guiding force behind Oma’s Hideaway.

Born during the pandemic as a pop-up in the Gado Gado parking lot, Oma’s became a permanent beacon of iridescent light in Portland’s Richmond neighborhood in 2021. The menu draws from Tina’s life story, taking influence from the craveable, soul-satisfying hawker food of Singapore and Malaysia and “turning up the volume” with exaggerated yet balanced flavors in Chef Tom’s signature style. Oma’s serves dinner accompanied by a seasonal list of hand-crafted cocktails and zero-proof drinks.

Great food. Really everything was a hit. Some dishes with a bit too much fish sauce for my taste but I loved every dish nonetheless.

Ended up having really disappointing service here :/ Server took our order and then literally disappeared for the rest of our meal. Did not see her again to get another drink order, ask how our food came out, get us an extra side of rice, or even take our bill (these were all things we had to wave down other servers to receive). We were literally abandoned. Everyone else seemed annoyed we needed service and we were left feeling frustrated and confused. One person asked if we were okay after we received our bill, and then acted completely uninterested in us afterwards. We kept expecting someone to explain the situation to us, as our server had fully disappeared by that point but we were given no additional information. I feel it should’ve been obvious that we were experiencing abysmal service and wasn’t in the mood to do any additional work to make the situation better. Food was fine. Hope the restaurant can sort out their service.

We had an absolutely amazing experience as we were able to snag a last-minute resy to celebrate our anniversary. Stuart was our server and he expertly and entertainingly captained us through our food and drink voyage. Everything Stuart suggested was deliciously full of mouth gasms. Oma’s is a definite must for everyone and we will definitely be back for more.

I had the pleasure of dining at Oma’s Hideaway for my birthday dinner while visiting Portland. Everything from the staff, decor, food and service was impeccable. We had a situation with someone at our table and the entire staff was so kind, efficient and professional about it. They helped us resolve the problem and our food still came out perfectly timed. We had two chefs in our group and they could not stop raving about how incredible every single item we got was. I can not recommend Oma’s Hideaway enough. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Portland!

The shrimp was very good. The roti kani was yummy. We shared a burger and that was also very good. Had a twist to the burger . Don’t miss the curly fries and keep space for the French toast for your dessert.
