Oma's Hideaway is a vibrant, maximalist restaurant inspired by the life and spirit of Chef Thomas Pisha Duffly's grandmother, Kiong Tien “Tina” Vandenberg. Her ability to adapt, to make the most out of limited resources, and to stay creative while projecting warmth and brightness is the guiding force behind Oma’s Hideaway.

Born during the pandemic as a pop-up in the Gado Gado parking lot, Oma’s became a permanent beacon of iridescent light in Portland’s Richmond neighborhood in 2021. The menu draws from Tina’s life story, taking influence from the craveable, soul-satisfying hawker food of Singapore and Malaysia and “turning up the volume” with exaggerated yet balanced flavors in Chef Tom’s signature style. Oma’s serves dinner accompanied by a seasonal list of hand-crafted cocktails and zero-proof drinks.

A disco-style dining room, whimsical sea-inspired wallpaper, and vintage 1970s lamps—Oma’s Hideaway is a maximalist escape from the acclaimed Gado Gado team. The standout Southeast Asian menu is a love letter to James Beard Award-nominated chef Thomas Pisha-Duffly’s grandmother and the region’s hawker fare. Start with fruity house jello shots topped with mango boba before digging into standouts like wonton mee (yellow noodles with pork belly) and salted egg yolk curry fries.

The shrimp was very good. The roti kani was yummy. We shared a burger and that was also very good. Had a twist to the burger . Don’t miss the curly fries and keep space for the French toast for your dessert.

Delicious food course after course. Interesting choice of drinks found several tasty libations. Would highly recommend.

We had a fabulous 3rd or 4th visit, so consistent. We like to dine outside, and the patio is so cute. And away from the traffic. Our waitress was fab, the food delicious and timely, the drinks spot on. I’m celiac, and felt each time they really welcomed me. It would be lovely to have a slightly broader array of gf options but the chicken is so good I don’t really mind. And the corn knocked my socks off!

We love everything on the menu, but our favorite is probably the Raita season salad. Always delicious. We get it every time.

The food was absolutely delicious and everyone was so kind. I think we might have hit them on a bad night. Every dish and drink took a very long time. We sat at 715 and by 830 we has only had a single drink and 3/4 of the plates we ordered. We ended up taking the last dish to go. We'll definitely try again - maybe next time without an event following dinner

Inspired by our love for Gado Gado we finally tried Oma’s Hideaway. Each dish was an absolute thrill. Creative. Delicious. Beautifully presented. Service was attentive without being smothering and the dishes came out at welcome pace. Can’t wait to go back!
