Designed by partner Jean Denoyer, Orsay strikes that difficult balance of sophisticated-chic in a warm convivial atmosphere. Dark mahogany raised paneled walls meet Art Nouveau styled arches in a deep, creamy butter color. The floor is a work of art, Italian mosaic tiles in warm tones of precious metals hand laid in a beautiful fan pattern that floats in waves across the expanse of floor. Banquettes with high wood backs topped with frosted glass panels provide privacy if wanted, and the low, soft lighting emanates from Art Nouveau period chandeliers that Denoyer had custom designed. A 20-foot long zinc-topped wood bar shipped in one piece from France, and French doors that spill onto the sidewalk terrace. This elegant Parisian-style brasserie marries modern French cuisine and classic brasserie fare.

Dover sole was outstanding! Glass of Provence rose was perfect. Burger was slightly overcooked but a treat. Tart tartan with vanilla ice cream and a glass of calvados was a lovely ending. Great ambiance, food and extraordinary service.

Service and decor were fabulous. Food was average but not real French. Prime rib was daily special and was presented and cut table side. Impressive presentation but meat was supposed to be medium rare but was rare to very rare and I had first cut from an end. Sent back for more fire and came back with very little taste. Somewhat disappointing but was partially forgiven by superb Mousse ala Chocolate. Want to return to try Dover Sole which is a Friday special.

A Disastrous Dining Experience - Avoid This Restaurant! I recently had the unfortunate misfortune of dining at Orsay, and it was nothing short of a complete disaster. From the moment the head waiter told me they are not participating in the restaurant week which I confirm before reserving the date and time, it was evident that this place was an absolute disaster waiting to happen. I can only hope that sharing my terrible experience here will prevent others from suffering the same fate. First and foremost, the service was abysmal. The staff seemed more interested in chatting amongst themselves than attending to the customers. It took forever for someone to acknowledge our presence, and even then, they seemed annoyed by our mere existence. We had to wave down a server multiple times just to get our order taken, and they got it wrong twice! Their lack of professionalism was staggering. When the food finally arrived, it was nothing short of a culinary catastrophe. I ordered a steak that resembled a hockey puck - overcooked, dry, and tasteless. The sides were no better; they were undercooked and lacked any discernible flavor. It was clear that the kitchen staff had no idea what they were doing. It was like dining in a run-down fast-food joint rather than a supposedly reputable restaurant. In conclusion, Orsay is hands down the worst restaurant I have ever had the displeasure of visiting. The combination of appalling service, atrocious food, and exorbitant prices make it a dining nightmare. Save your time, money, and taste buds by avoiding this establishment at all costs.

I have to say I was happily surprised with dinner at Orsay. Staff very professional, courteous. Atmosphere was old world charm. Everything from start to finish was delicious: warm sour dough bread with fresh butter, green gazpacho soup, artichoke appetizer, skate fish for our entree, and French green beans. For dessert, we had try their chocolate mousse! Would recommend!

Having been a regular for years, what a disappointment. The chicken I ordered tasted like rubber, the temperature in the restaurant was warm, and the prices were borderline ridiculous. So disappointed, We could barely hear each other at the table. Not sure I will go back.

Orsay was an excellent experience. From the moment we walked in the door we had an authentic French Brasserie experience. The service was attentive and friendly. The menu was familiar and also diverse, and each dish was executed perfectly with care and love. Our wine recommendation was spot on. Can't recommend this place enough.

My wife and I took advantage of French Restaurant Week special and had $30 lunch on Bastille Day. The food was wonderful; no exotic expensive ingredients but may require manual labor from the kitchen staff. Love the chicken, especially the pomme aligot.

This lovely French bistro is hidden gem in plain sight at Lexington and 75th. I love to dine there not only for the excellent food but ,in addition, physical setting is stunning with it's marble and dark mahogany walls. The service is very attentive and professional. If you enjoy dining in a sophisticated and fun environment with Bistro French fare Cafe' Orsay is for you.

I happened to arrive early at the restaurant. 11 48 to be exact for my 12 pm reservation. The door to the restaurant was open, not locked, so I walked in to check if my guest had arrived and was advised the restaurant was not open and I would have to wait outside. It happened to be quite warm that day so I said “can I just wait inside?” The person said no, that she had been instructed to not let any one in until the restaurant opened at 12. I had to wait outside. Shortly thereafter, 2 guests arrived and were allowed in before noon. At 12 01 I entered and ask if it was okay to be there now and then asked why those 2 were allowed to stay inside and the person said it was closer to noon. It would have been nice if the person let me know that I could wait inside and not in the heat. I have lived on the Upper east side since the early 90s and cannot think of a restaurant where I was treated in a such an inhospitable manner. If I had not been meeting someone there I would have left immediately. Sadly the excellent food and subsequent excellent service does not take the bad taste out of my mouth.

Classic french fare and service. We attended brunch and had the bread basket, steak tartar, and cucumber gazpacho to share. Everything was delicious. I had the special, a delicious seared tuna and the panna cotta for dessert. Service was superb.

I love what Orsay has done to their outside space, critical to someone like me who cannot yet eat indoors. The waitstaff was attentive and helpful and the salads fresh and tasty. Must try dinner sometime.

This was one of the best meals I've ever had in a restaurant. The flavors were rich, complex, and deeply satisfying. The service was attentive. It was pretty expensive, but so very worth it.
