Great venue transports you right to Paris. True decor of a French bistro and a menu to match. Great renditions of classics like French onion soup, boeuf bourguignon and steak frites. A great but fairly expensive wine list as well. Attentive service. For some the atmosphere is a bit stuffy and the crowd is a bit old. Not really a "date night" place. The restaurant also has developed great outdoor dining spaces as well. Only real complaint is that the food can be very salty.
Always a great spot. Service is always excellent as is the ambience. Food is delicious! A little pricey for everyday dining, but perfect for meetings, dates and special occasions.
Gorgeous atmosphere, friendly staff. Amazing fries!
One of my favorite traditional French bistros in Manhattan
Great location close to the Frick Collection. I had excellent tuna tartare and my daughter lived her Lyonnaise salad.
Enjoyed a casual business lunch, and the food and service were outstanding. One of my favorite places to dine on the UES, and bring my fellow foodies.
Le repas était délicieux!!!
Wonderful experience as usual. Everyone is so attentive and super gracious. And of course, well the food… Top notch !
We came to this restaurant because it was recommended by The Michelin Guide as a French Restaurant in NYC. Regarding the food I had a Nice Scargot as starter and a Steak Tartar as a main dish and I have to admit that the meal was good for me. However my companion had an untasty Onion soup and a awful Garganelly pasta. We are ok regarding this issue because it may happen some time.
But the the service was not good . It really does not match that quality of the food due the following reasons
- the manager did not welcome us in a polite basis … the manager was rude because I don’t want to leave my coat at arrival and I took it to the table
- the manager was drinking a glass of bear at the front desk all
- while it s a French Style restaurant regarding the menu and the decoration they were playing Latin music all the time .. I was figuring that Mariachi singers and tortillas plus tacos may appear at anytime
- my tartar arrived before the fries I have ordered as a side dish…
- the service was really not good
- And then came the worst part of this history. Even after the bad service and all the problems mentioned above I still gave a 10% tip. At this time the beer drinking manager came to our table and said that in NYC it us usual to give a 20% tip.
I know that this is the usual amount of tip because this is the 16th time I travel to this adorable city… and then I listed all the reasons above to him. I wished him a happy new year and left the restaurant disappointed with all the lack of attention i got.
So if you looking for a good French restaurant go to Benoit Restaurant where the food, the service and the restaurant environment is AWSOME
Wonderful service, delicious food, great atmosphere
Disappointed. The Tuna Tartar was full of bread to fill it out. They don't give points for booking on Open Table.
Perfect ambience for lunch for a group visiting New York with fond memories of restaurants like Orsay -- neighborhood place, beaux arts building, traditional French food properly prepared and presented, impeccable and caring service.
One of my favorite places! The only thing they could improve is to put a proper dark chocolate soufflé on the menu.
The salmon I had last night was tres bien!!!
A true classic uptown.
we dined outdoors. not ideal. prices have clearly gone up and portion size down. soup or $16, really. it is convenient and good if you are in the neighborhood.
Really good food and service as always. Highly recommended
Very good food, fine service, a well-constructed outside structure, and a perfect Upper East Side location made for an excellent dining experience on New Year's Eve. Orsay is a local UES mainstay and it is easy to see why. The restaurant gets better every year. Go and enjoy!
Been here a bunch and always a good meal!
Food and service excellent! Will definitely be back.
Food was fantastic, service was very quick and polite.
My sister, her husband and my wonderful nieces and nephews had a marvelous time. The food was wonderful, our waiter was terrific , and it made for a wonderful Sunday night.
Great food, terrible service. Drinks took forever and then came ten minutes apart. Soda was flat and they didn’t seem to care. Food was tossed on the table.
We were a part of 6 for dinner at the end of their service time - 9:30 pm. They could not have been nicer. Service was great. Food and Wine excellent.
A real treat! Delicious food and prompt service prior to a show.
Worth the relatively high price. Yum!
Well, Orsay has been a consistent go to place, but this time it was really a disappointment of lunch! The service was really troubling thought out the lunch. Also, there were 3 of us and on person plate arrived, about 8 minutes later the second one arrived and not what he ordered and than my lunch arrived after asking what happened! Anther 5/7 minutes went by and then had to ask for the side dish that never arrived…. Hopefully it was an off day!
Very dependable. Always enjoy eating here. I was able to introduce a friend this time.
The food and the service was amazing! Great place to go on a date or dinner catching up with friends. 100% will be back!
For being a French restaurant the choices didn't reflect the theme. The food was good, the location was good for us as we went an Off Broadway theater right around the corner. It has lots of outdoor seating.
Outdoor space is charming and very comfortable.
Overall, the experience was very good. The food was as rated, very good. The service was a bit tardy. Whether it was because of the full house, or short staff it was difficult to tell, but everyone did try their best to satisfy all needs. We will continue to frequent this great place.
The service was excellent.
The food was delicious and the portions were more than adequate.
We were seated in the bar area that had a very high noise level. Would recommend
the main dinning room.
My wife has fish which was dry and i had beef Bourgeoning - the beef was dry not moist. The food was not exceptional for the price
Friends celebrating the holidays. Couldn’t have had a better time. Waitress was the best. So friendly and helpful. The food was wonderful. Many thanks for a joyful evening
Steak was not good. Service was good. The place felt like it hit its peak 20 years ago. Wouldn’t be on my list of NY places to return to.
Had a fantastic time, but outdoor seating could use a few more heat lamps as it got quite chilly even though only in the 40's outside. Otherwise food and service were excellent!
It was nice to be back at this brasserie. The ambience is definitely Parisian which is nice in these days of restricted travel. The service is excellent. The servers have the right balance of friendliness and discretion. I enjoyed my eggs norwegian and truly loved the poached artichoke. I haven't had a whole artichoke in a while. The balsamic vinaigrette was very tasty. The artichoke had been expertly prepared (tender, no hint of choke). Overall a good Sunday brunch experience. Great french comfort food.
There was some type of party that took over the bar area with nobody wearing masks and crowding over people like us that were seated at tables adjacent to the bar. We didn’t get bread or our order taken for over 45 minutes and couldn’t hear each other speak (due to large group of people). Food was not spectacular, which it what should be expected for the price.
We were VERY disappointed about our nite with friends there. It was noisy with the tiled floors n we had to flag with waitstaffs for ordering everything. On top of that, besides missing utensils of every dishes that they served, they completely forgot one entry without apologizing n coming to check if everything was alright?! With the price that they charged, they really should do better than that!
Except for the food which was fine, in decades of dining here and abroad, I have never been so rudely treated in a
restaurant-without any cause on my part. With only two waiters to serve a packed restaurant, their grumpiness.was
perhaps understandable, but there was no excuse for the
maitre’d: hostile, insensitive and absolutely neglectful.
I do not intend to return to subject myself to such unwarranted conduct.
The food was OK with one exception: The Escargots were TERRIBLE !
Wrong spice combination and WAY TOO MUCH GARLIC.
Offensive ! The chef would have been thrown out of the kitchen in Paris!
You better fix this problem!
57 dollars for a small thin burnt steak. Horrible
Delicious food, great service. A friendly place to enjoy lunch
