Osteria di Eataly - Eataly Chicago
Osteria di Eataly is the Eataly answer to the casual yet elevated dining experience. At this restaurant on the second floor, you can enjoy a full Italian meal comprised of antipasti, primi, and secondi in both modern and traditional preparations. The menu celebrates simple, fresh ingredients based on the season.
Angel was great. It’s was my friends birthday and first time ever coming in for all 3 of them and they loved it!!! We had a great server that actually took time in explaining food. Most definitely will be back
Nice waiter, the food and wine were delicious! (Good company doesn’t hurt either :)
Not the best showing this time around. Eataly was fairly busy, but not crowded to the gills. Staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and expected to get complaints for some reason. Osteria experience was good, however rest of experience was lacking. Things seemed to be sloppy, like the cannoli station downstairs. It was not terribly appetizing at all--station was sloppy, product was sloppy. Nothing special about it at all. Have not had that kind of experience on other visits. When is Lidia due to inspect her Chicago location?! I did return a couple days later (in town for conference) for lunch and that porchetta sandwich was outstanding.
It was phenomenal! The food is authentically Italian which was so refreshing! It was also a tad bit unique/weird that it’s inside a grocery store, but I don’t regret dining there!
We had an 8pm reservation midway through the spring promotion. Our waiter was EXTREMELY busy and the kitchen had run out of a few items on the prix fix menu. He seemed to be the only one in our section. It was disappointing to have few choices, no concessions were made. The server and waiter were not on the same page. We were served the appetizers that the table next to us ordered. It took 50 minutes to get our next plate. The food was indifferent. We were only asked about drinks as an after thought.
The place was slammed pack, but the wait staff did the best they could and we're still super friendly when being behind.
Eataly food is almost always excellent - especially for the price. We were there during a 'special' - two courses from a special section menu - and it was a great deal. One issue: they did not have my reservation on their 'book' when I arrived. After quite a while and after I told them that I had a confirmation email that I could show them, they showed me to a table. After I got to the table, I saw that the rest of my group had already been seated at another table, had drinks etc and were waiting for me. By the time we finished, the room was full and noisy -- but that is to be expected and was not a problem.
Was very good and adorable, our waited brian was amazing. Only issue was the temperature, we were next to the thermostat and could see it was 77.2 degrees F. We were very warm.
Food was good. But, my chicken was over cooked
I was very disappointed in this dining experience. There was a significant lack of communication. My dish was not available, and I was not informed until a long period of time had lapsed. I picked a new dish, and my family received their meals 5 minutes after chose a new dish; I sat and watched them eat and waited.
Then, I waited another 30 minutes for my meal to arrive with one only visit from the staff to update me that “we don’t know what’s going on”. The meal was delicious, but I did not enjoy it. I was rushed as I was on vacation with my family. I understand “things happen”, but the lack of communication was unacceptable. I was so excited about eating at this restaurant, and left feeling extremely disappointed.
Food was terrible. First time in my life I have ever sent anything back. Black pasta with shrimp was inedible.
For the price you can do better. The food was decent, but the hostess striuggled to seat people with reservations in a timely manner (we waited 20minites beyond oir time slot). It is a nice idea having a restaurant within a grocery store; however charging 3x as much for a bottle of wine that is sitting in a shelf 50-ft. away does not make sense. In sum, the food was fine, but it was lacking in value and service.
We had a 6:15pm reservation and got seated around 6:30. The waiter was friendly and helpful.
The food was served in a reasonable time period.
Our party of 6 had ordered a variety of dinner offerings all of which tasted great.
Three of us had polpette meatballs with pasta, and we thought they were the best tasting ever.
Everyone also had great reviews for the food they ordered.
The prices were a little on the high side.
We highly recommend this restaurant.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have a good experience. We came in from out of town and got there late to our reservation and then a lady in a red dress very rudely said we’re closed. We expected to have been turned away, but not in a disrespectful manner. Not a way to inform customers. Will not recommend to friends and family. Sorry
We’ve used to enjoy the place.
They’ve changed... now over over priced for the quality.
Sea food had a taste of bleach...
Best part the water and the bread!
Excellent food and service. Great wines and good ambiance.
fun atmosphere and great food. good value for the money.
Always great food but the live music did not add anything to an already conversationally challenged environment
We had a wonderful meal at Osteria, and excellent service from Cam. We’ll definitely be back!
Came into town for the Auto Show with my dad. Had a great dinner! Highly recommend.
The food was amazing! My boyfriend and I both had two different kinds of ravioli and they were cooked PERFECTLY. The only issue is they packed a lot of tables into a small space so you are really close to the people next to you. The table next to use were terribly fighting and it was fairly distracting.
What left us most disappointed with our experience at Osteria di Eataly was the busy-ness of people and servers all around us. We would have appreciated being in a "room" style of restaurant than out in the open with VERY loud noise all around us. The food was good, the value for what we had was good. I was disappointed that my meatballs came about 15 minutes or so after i was done with my pasta. I would have preferred eating the meatballs with my pasta. I was also disappointed that we had to go to another location within Eataly to get our dessert.
Ambiance was wonderful. First time dining at Eataly.
Great service. great atmosphere. 8 in our party, all but one liked their entree very much.
I was greatly disappointed. After making my reservation, I specifically called and asked to speak to someone about where exactly we would be sitting, as I had only been there once before and sat in the restaurant in the back with a nice window view. The person on the phone told me there were no window seats available but assured me that we had a table in the nice restaurant in the back that I had been to before. I got there one minute late (at 7:01 and my reservation was for 6:45... 1 min after the 15 minute grace period), as I explained my GPS signal was lost, and that the elevator broke in the parking garage across the street so we had to walk down 24 flights of stairs (which the hostess said happens "all the time"), so they just gave our table away. She told me it would be "5, maybe 10 minutes to just clean off a table," we ended up waiting for 35 minutes, meanwhile watching people just walk up with no reservation get sat before us. Then only to fine out that, even though I called about where we would be sitting, we in fact WERE sitting in the open area by tens of people where it was loud and claustrophobic. The food was very good and the server was very sweet and attentive, however, I was very displeased with the lack of knowledge from the person on the phone and getting basically ignored by the hostess. Then only to find out the Nutella bar closed downstairs, which we were greatly looking forward to go to afterward, as we were there for my moms birthday. I was just very relieved to leave there since we drove over an hour to get there and was just disappointed. I will not be returning or referring anyone to go there.
Fantastic food and the services staff is great.
Love everything about it except being on display for all the shoppers.
They need to screen the dining area a little better. Does not need to be too much taller, just a little over 5' tall would make the overall experience much better.
We really loved the food, but you are seated in the middle of the marketplace upstairs and it’s a bit cramped, but for the price we’ll definitely be back and you know you’re getting fresh pasta!
We really like the variety of things that you can experience at this place. However, I wish the restaurant and store were separate from each other. The pasta was absolutely delicious. The beef tenderloin was very disappointing. The chef put way too much sea salt on my beef. It really killed my taste buds. Overall, our server Mark, was excellent. We would go back but I will not order the beef tenderloin again.
Amazing food! Great experience as well. Great for a date night
We had a great lunch with wonderful selection of food. Our server was so gracious with us.
Wonderful food and delicious food and drinks. Spritz cocktail was amazing! And the pork ravioli. Yum!
Poor service: rushed and poorly timed. Two people at the table so two pieces of bread of stale . I would expect something better,. Poor value,
Really great food and wine! Feels a little bit like you’re eating inside a high end grocery store because it’s all one open space and the lights are bright but it’s not too distracting. Would still recommend it based on the quality of food !
Food wasn't terrible, wasn't great. I've had way better in many other Chicago Italian restaurants. They were busy, so our server was basically absent and the courses were poorly timed. Didn't ask about our meal or if we wanted anything else - just dropped off the check as they walked by. It's basically a pricey ok food-court meal.
The food was great! The atmosphere was was warm and comfortable and our server was excellent!!! We can’t wait to go back with friends and family.
Different experience then your typical restaurant because it’s inside supermarket. Food was amazingly delicious, small portions and way overpriced for the ambience (while people are shopping around you). The liver pate appetizer was delicious and a little difficult to share with 4 people, more like for 1 person. Definitely worth experiencing at least once in your life.
The place was just okay. The entire place was unorganized and confusing.
What a fun dining experience! There is great energy in this place! There are many food options. We had gluten free and dairy free people in our group, and they were well accommodated for. Great service. I highly recommend this place for a different and lively food experience!
Eataly is a super unique spot. You're eating in the middle of a grocery store! If you like that energy then you'll love it as the food is second to none. If you're looking for something more romantic this might not be the spot, but highly recommend.
the meatballs and roasted chicken were amazing. the ravioli was good. i really liked the glass of rose too. We had someone with a serious nut allergy with us so we avoided a lot of the antipasti (salads in particular) dishes which have nuts in them (although the waiter did offer to serve them without nuts) they seemed like they'd really be better with them so I would like to come back and perhaps try a few of those as they sounded interesting. the portions are fairly small, but it is created to be a coursed meal, so if you were to order an antipasti, primi, and secondi it definitely would be plenty of food. For me, its probably a special night out, as it isn't cheap (especially if you are doing all 3 courses, probably $50-65 per person before drinks).
*one note, the chairs feel like they are about to break at any second and the spacing of aisles/tables is almost unpassable. as a large woman, I felt quite perilously perched. The booth seating (half the table) probably would be better, but required moving the table to be able to reach it.
