Known by generations for her hospitality, proprietress Elouise Adams Jones, a.k.a. Ouisie, serves an eclectic collection of Southern foods with an excellent wine list to match. High ceilings and fans in the main dining room it evoke the ambiance of a Texas manor house. The adjacent dining porch overlooking the patio and garden, as well as Cooper’s Wine Bin, provide additional dining and entertaining areas. The daily fare encompasses traditional offerings like her well-loved pimento cheese, the shrimp and grits, and the popular Gulf Coast oysters to the favorite Tuesday special Ouisie’s award winning chicken fried steak with corn pudding. A fine plate of grilled Prime beef tenderloin or a brace of quail stuffed with super lump crab meat with Cognac glaze are good examples of the daily specials one might find on the blackboard.

    I love that each table has a red rose. Our waiter was terrific. My branzino was excellent with small drizzle of sauce which is perfect for me. My husband had the Monday's prime rib and that was good too. It was an excellent meal.

    Service was great. We all ordered from the HRW menu- crab cake appetizers were disappointing, not much actual crab meat. Entrees of salmon and beef were excellent. Those who ordered the peach cobbler dessert were disappointed. Those who ordered the tres leches ate every bite.

    Wonderful dining experience! The sauce on the crab cakes made them even more fabulous. The steak was perfectly cooked, extremely tender, and tasty. Definitely a repeat experience. Can't wait to try more things on their menu.

    We had an informal professional meeting between four women and I can't imagine that we could have picked a more perfect place. I only knew these women casually so I wanted it to be nice but not expensive and definitely we needed something centrally located since we were literally coming from all over the city. The service was extraordinary and made us all feel spoiled! The food presentation was beautiful and the taste was incredible. There was nothing left on any of our plates. And then, dessert... One ordered the pecan pie and I know it is one of her all-time favorites foods. She absolutely loved it and said it was the best she ever had. THANK YOU!!! We enjoyed our lunch immensely!!

    We had a wonderful dinner with our attentive waiter. We requested a special visitor at our fable, Patience the dog. Everyone in the restaurant enjoyed that! Love this houston staple!

    We have been going to Ousie's since it opened many years ago. Last night my branzini was delicious. Probably the best thing I have ever had there! And I think the food is always quite good.

    The best part of my meal was the muffins with fresh ginger every thing else was a miss!!! Everyone at the table ordered their meat medium well but the steak was prepared medium I ordered an appetizer and was disappointed in the calamari concoction

    We appreciated the elegantly casual ambience and excellent beef tenderloin on the HRW menu. My only question would ask why we could not park in your large parking lot with plenty of empty spaces without using your valet service.

    We had a group of 7 for a business dinner. Our waiter was very helpful with suggesting a sampler of appetizers (all the choices were delicious) and he was very entertaining the entire evening. We had six different entrees among our group; the winners were the dry scallops, New Orleans Redfish, seafood crepes, salmon, and rib eye; the Julia Child chicken was less successful. Desserts were OK but not up to the level of the entrees. Very reasonably priced for excellent food - with appetizers for seven and 4 desserts, bill was under $500 including 20% tip

    From the Hostess to the waitstaff, the food and post prandial latte, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The restaurant was busy, but we could hear one another. Consistently excellent.
