Oz Kafe in the ByWard Market, York Courtyards in Ottawa, Ontario.
Historical Building, great ambiance, and an outdoor patio.
Food is European inspired, locally sourced and veg forward.
Excellent choice for any occasion: lovely location and cozy decor; charming and professional service; and, drinks and food were exceptional for the price (mushroom risotto, wild board and sirloin beef)! Not only will we recommend the Oz Kafe, we will certainly return. Thank you to all the wonderful staff.
The food was amazing unfortunately the service was lacking. It took us 25 minutes to get a drink and I had to keep asking for water. The waitress removed 1 of the 4 plates while 3 of us were still eating so we felt rushed. I would go back for the food
Great atmosphere, service, and food. Would definitely go back for business or pleasure.
Amazing service. Helpful with recommendations. Great food. So tasty...so flavourful. The brocolli caesar salad was unbelievable!
The best French 75 on the planet! Wonderfully attentive server; knew when to come to the table and when to give us space. Delicious risotto - an appetizer but totally filling. Charcuterie options were also wonderful. Just the right size portions for everything. Wonderful evening.
What a wonderful experience. Eberything was perfect. Ahsley was absolutely amazing, knowledgable and extremely pleasant!
Amazing original menu and wonderful cocktails served in historic courtyard building in Bytown
The food was absolutely amazing. One of the best meals I have ever had in my life. I'm planning on returning soon to try more of the items off the menu. The Old Fashioned I had was also one of the best I've ever enjoyed.
We arrived early, just as the testaurany was opening, and everything was spot on. Great service, delicious meal and spectacular ambience. Created the perfect birthday celebration. A must try (and return) for the market.
Excellent food and fantastic wine selection! It would be nice to see a slightly large main course menu, as the choices are somewhat limited.
Great location, great good, great service!
Would recommend to anyone, omnivores and vegetarians alike.
Awesome spot with a great vibe. Food was amazing!!
Food was delicious. Charcuterie plate was a bit overwhelming with the amount of bread that was given but otherwise very good . Beautiful setting in a courtyard. Would definitely go back and recommend to all!
Exceptional service and quality, location is gorgeous.
Overall great time and would recommend the duck and rabbit. Sparkling wine selection could be improved.
We met old friends for dinner. Service was attentive and not rushed. We loved the exposed brick walls. Food was creative and delicious. We will definitely return when we are in Ottawa again.
I love Oz for either meeting with friends or having a drink. Staff are knowledgeable, and personable, ambiance is intimate yet relaxed, and the menu and wine list are excellent. Also has vegetarian options, which is much appreciated. Highly recommend!
Lovely place, great atmosphere and good food. I will go there again.
Food was fantastic. The service as well. We will for sure go back.
Overall good, accommodated dietary requirements. Excellent risotto! However food was too salty. Portions were a little too substantial. Good cocktails!
The food was delicious in a great atmosphere. The place was hard to find, so I would recommend more information in the website I relation to location. Once we found the place the experience was superb. I will visit it again.
Our server was the best server we've had in a long time. Attentive, but gave us our space. Casual, but only to make us comfortable, not unprofessional. And the right amount of conversation. The food was mostly excellent. We started off with the cheese and charcuterie, but the best part of that was all the house made goodies they stash on it. My wife had the steak, and I had the rabbit. The rabbit was just a bit dry, but the sauce more than made up for it. I like the vegetable forward concept, which gives you mostly a plate of vegetables with 1/3 plate of meat. It was a great healthy proportion that I really enjoyed.
Would definitely recommend and return.
Delicious food, thumbs up to the chef!!, great service, beautiful decor, warm cozy ambience. It's not our first visit and definitely we'll be back again.
Beautiful restaurant, fabulous kitchen, very attentive staff. And they know wine. My retreat when in Ottawa. All round destination restaurant.
It is a beautiful spot with a unique menu, the waitress was pleasant but not very informative. They were out of a wide variety of wine and beer.
I recommend coming here for business, special occasions. I would not recommend bringing children here
We had a lovely date night out! Our server Tony was top notch and the food was awesome! The Chef Kristine was hands on with each table which was a nice touch!
Always happy to go and excited to go back!
Great decor, ambience, and friendly service. I had the beef and it was cooked perfectly. I recommend Oz for your Ottawa visit!
Absolutely amazing food and great service. We had the surf and turf valentine's sharing plate and it was incredible. The only set-back was how closely we were sitting to other diners - we found the tables a little too close for comfort. Overall, Oz Kafe is awesome!
This is my favourite place in town. I go here every year on my birthday, and bring visiting out of town friends here every time we have a reason to go out. Their food is incredible, super flavourful and reasonably priced. Their drinks are amazing, their staff is friendly and attentive and the music and atmosphere are hard to beat. I love OZ and always will!
Amazing ambience, and I really recommend the Rabbit :)
Food and service was perfect. Great ambiance. I will be returning again shortly. Highly recommended.
Super service, le barman parlait français. La bouffe excellente. C’était ma première fois, mais je vais retourner pour sur !
Stellar service, meal, and ambiance at a reasonable price considering the quality and uniqueness of the locale. We absolutely loved it!
I make a point to come to this restaurant for any fun excuse I can find - I love it! I was really disappointed that our waiter didn't know the wine list AT ALL. We were so looking forward to trying some new wines.
Food was good but presentation was below average for the price of the meal. Service was great!
I was very disappointed with this experience, and particularly the food. The ambiance seemed very nice in the rest of the restaurant, but we were seated in a small, crowded, overly-lit section that had two servers assigned to it, despite the rest of the restaurant seeming fairly empty. The hostess inexplicably kept seating people in this section and a few guests asked to be moved immediately after being seated. The cocktails are large and reasonably priced, but not very strong, creative or flavourful. The beer selection was ok. The complimentary sourdough at the table was undercooked and doughy and served with a bland, kind of gross, vinaigrette. We ordered a cheese and sausage from the charcuterie menu as an appetizer- they were decent but expensive, the selection wasn’t great, and the bread that was served with it was burnt. The menu is appealing if you like meat, but despite the “vegetable-forward” marketing, there isn’t a lot for vegetarians/vegans. The appetizers are quite large- I got the meatballs as a main, but they were also burnt. The mains are very overpriced and unfortunately my partner’s duck was undercooked. So in summary: more expensive than it’s worth, and they can’t seem to cook anything for the correct amount of time. Do not recommend.
It was a good dinner, we'd go back again. It wasn't great, though, by a long shot. The appetizers were the rabbit rillette and the meatballs, both of which were pretty good. For main course, we had vegetarian sausage in cabbage, and duck - again, both pretty good. The duck was an A-, the sausage was a B-. Service was very good. Nice waitress, good staff. Pretty small restaurant, one side is pretty loud with a bar, the other side seats 12 or 14, and is a little insulated from the bar noise but you're right on top of your neighbors.
Dessert were genuinely terrible, as in eat one bite and leave the rest. We got the chocolate ice cream, which was essentially chocolate ganache in the shape of a scoop of ice cream, completely inedible. The sticky pudding was "like a stale muffin with caramel on it", according to my wife (a pastry chef). The chocolate cake tasted like it was store-bought. Despite absolutely hating the desserts, the meal was still a success, overall.
The restaurant is hard to find, but was very well-reviewed by others - we agree it's a good restaurant, but there are others (Eighteen, The Courtyard) that are immediately next door, and I suspect they're more worth the night out.
Loved this classy nook in the Market - our group of 6 was very well served and the cheese and charcuterie platters are among the best in the city IMHO. The restaurant decor is spectacular - love how some of the original brick walls were preserved and the layout of the restaurant is really well-done. Wine selection was fresh and fun. We will be back!
Oz Cafe was very accommodating. We were a large group and I was worried we would maybe be a nuisance but they were gracious about it all and made us feel comfortable. Thank you!! Will definitely be back.
The location and decor was perfect for a night out. The selection of craft beers was pleasing to any taste.
Sadly there was a large party in the restaurant which seemed to suck up all the server time. When my food finally arrived, the meat was barely warm.
We were going to have dessert and coffee but the DJ cranked up at 10pm and that pretty much killed any conversation.
The server did adjust my bill but the experience could have been much better.
