Oz Kafe in the ByWard Market, York Courtyards in Ottawa, Ontario.
Historical Building, great ambiance, and an outdoor patio.
Food is European inspired, locally sourced and veg forward.
Beautiful restaurant, fabulous kitchen, very attentive staff. And they know wine. My retreat when in Ottawa. All round destination restaurant.
It is a beautiful spot with a unique menu, the waitress was pleasant but not very informative. They were out of a wide variety of wine and beer.
I recommend coming here for business, special occasions. I would not recommend bringing children here
We had a lovely date night out! Our server Tony was top notch and the food was awesome! The Chef Kristine was hands on with each table which was a nice touch!
Always happy to go and excited to go back!
Absolutely amazing food and great service. We had the surf and turf valentine's sharing plate and it was incredible. The only set-back was how closely we were sitting to other diners - we found the tables a little too close for comfort. Overall, Oz Kafe is awesome!
Great decor, ambience, and friendly service. I had the beef and it was cooked perfectly. I recommend Oz for your Ottawa visit!
This is my favourite place in town. I go here every year on my birthday, and bring visiting out of town friends here every time we have a reason to go out. Their food is incredible, super flavourful and reasonably priced. Their drinks are amazing, their staff is friendly and attentive and the music and atmosphere are hard to beat. I love OZ and always will!
Amazing ambience, and I really recommend the Rabbit :)
Food and service was perfect. Great ambiance. I will be returning again shortly. Highly recommended.
Super service, le barman parlait français. La bouffe excellente. C’était ma première fois, mais je vais retourner pour sur !
Stellar service, meal, and ambiance at a reasonable price considering the quality and uniqueness of the locale. We absolutely loved it!
I make a point to come to this restaurant for any fun excuse I can find - I love it! I was really disappointed that our waiter didn't know the wine list AT ALL. We were so looking forward to trying some new wines.
Food was good but presentation was below average for the price of the meal. Service was great!
I was very disappointed with this experience, and particularly the food. The ambiance seemed very nice in the rest of the restaurant, but we were seated in a small, crowded, overly-lit section that had two servers assigned to it, despite the rest of the restaurant seeming fairly empty. The hostess inexplicably kept seating people in this section and a few guests asked to be moved immediately after being seated. The cocktails are large and reasonably priced, but not very strong, creative or flavourful. The beer selection was ok. The complimentary sourdough at the table was undercooked and doughy and served with a bland, kind of gross, vinaigrette. We ordered a cheese and sausage from the charcuterie menu as an appetizer- they were decent but expensive, the selection wasn’t great, and the bread that was served with it was burnt. The menu is appealing if you like meat, but despite the “vegetable-forward” marketing, there isn’t a lot for vegetarians/vegans. The appetizers are quite large- I got the meatballs as a main, but they were also burnt. The mains are very overpriced and unfortunately my partner’s duck was undercooked. So in summary: more expensive than it’s worth, and they can’t seem to cook anything for the correct amount of time. Do not recommend.
It was a good dinner, we'd go back again. It wasn't great, though, by a long shot. The appetizers were the rabbit rillette and the meatballs, both of which were pretty good. For main course, we had vegetarian sausage in cabbage, and duck - again, both pretty good. The duck was an A-, the sausage was a B-. Service was very good. Nice waitress, good staff. Pretty small restaurant, one side is pretty loud with a bar, the other side seats 12 or 14, and is a little insulated from the bar noise but you're right on top of your neighbors.
Dessert were genuinely terrible, as in eat one bite and leave the rest. We got the chocolate ice cream, which was essentially chocolate ganache in the shape of a scoop of ice cream, completely inedible. The sticky pudding was "like a stale muffin with caramel on it", according to my wife (a pastry chef). The chocolate cake tasted like it was store-bought. Despite absolutely hating the desserts, the meal was still a success, overall.
The restaurant is hard to find, but was very well-reviewed by others - we agree it's a good restaurant, but there are others (Eighteen, The Courtyard) that are immediately next door, and I suspect they're more worth the night out.
Loved this classy nook in the Market - our group of 6 was very well served and the cheese and charcuterie platters are among the best in the city IMHO. The restaurant decor is spectacular - love how some of the original brick walls were preserved and the layout of the restaurant is really well-done. Wine selection was fresh and fun. We will be back!
Oz Cafe was very accommodating. We were a large group and I was worried we would maybe be a nuisance but they were gracious about it all and made us feel comfortable. Thank you!! Will definitely be back.
The location and decor was perfect for a night out. The selection of craft beers was pleasing to any taste.
Sadly there was a large party in the restaurant which seemed to suck up all the server time. When my food finally arrived, the meat was barely warm.
We were going to have dessert and coffee but the DJ cranked up at 10pm and that pretty much killed any conversation.
The server did adjust my bill but the experience could have been much better.
Beautiful restaurant, delicious food and drinks in a unique location. Be sure to Google directions or call for directions. It is hidden away but that is precisely what makes it so special.
I initially tried out Oz Kafe a month ago as part of a secret dinner experience. We were told to meet there at 4:30pm for a bevvie and then we would move on to a dinner at a secret location. My party of 8 were one of the first to arrive at 4:30pm and we waited over 30 minutes for a drink. It was frustrating, but I figured it was a one off. This past Saturday, my hubby and I double dated with my parents (woohoo) for dinner there. Unfortunately the exact same thing happened - it literally took over 40 minutes for our drink to arrive and when it did, our martinis were served to us in a small beer pint glass. It is unfortunate because this sets the tone for the rest of the evening. Our server was very nice and kind and the food was tasty, but all I remember when I think about Oz Kafe is the horrible drink service. I really did enjoy the food, especially the meatballs and steak. I shared a charcuterie plate with my husband and we ordered 2 different cheeses and 2 different meats for it, which came to over $40. For this price, I assumed that there would be other items on the tray such as nuts, mustards, onions, fruits, etc, like a typical charcuterie tray usually includes. Unfortunately, there were minimal accompanying options and yet they included (not joking here) 18 large pieces of toast to go with it. We literally left almost 14 pieces of wasted toast on the plate when we were done.
We absolutely loved our dining experience.
The service was very friendly but not in the way, the cocktails were very good and the food was fantastic.
Appetizing plates, satisfying portion size without being too big, very well though out dishes with balanced flavours and textures.
Their home made citrus vinegar and sourdough was a good start.
My wife had the vegan walnut sausage dish and I had rabbit. It was all very well presented, delicious and locally sourced.
Service was not very fast and we were on a schedule (show to get to), so I wouldn't suggest it as a "quick bite to eat" type of place, but for good dining... definitely. We would have stayed for a bit longer and dessert if we could.
The place was a little difficult to find, through an alley and in the courtyard, they should really have a better sign streetside, but we managed.
We loved it and fully intend to go back when we're in Ottawa.
Loved the food and staff. We took a 3 month old and Oz Kafe staff were very accommodating in making sure there was a place for a stroller.
My experience at Oz Kafe was one of the best dining experiences that I've had. The service was excellent; the staff was both attentive and knowledgeable. The food was incredible - the steak and duck were flavorful and perfectly cooked. The ambiance was perfect: the noise was low and the aesthetic appeal of the art/interior design added greatly to the experience. I can't say enough good things about Oz Kafe. I've been to a few higher end restaurants, and Oz Kafe definitely stands out as something special.
Our dining experience at the Oz Kafe was amazing! Every mouthful was exquisite and our server was wonderful!
The food was delicious and good value for the money, as was the wine. Our server, Antonio, cemented our great experience. He was friendly without being overly familiar and attentive to our needs. The only drawback was an exuberant table of eight behind us who made it difficult to hear at some points, but that is difficult for a restaurant to control. I would strongly recommend this restaurant as a great place to go after a movie, after work or just about any time!
Birthday. Way overpriced for what we got which was a tiny piece of trout on what essentially tasted like a pea soup. Oh and 3 pieces of cauliflower . Not impressed at all for $32.
It was our first time at this restaurant and we will definitely go back soon!!!
Loved the old location and now also the new one!! Excellent food, delicious & locally procured ! Beautifully restored building.
Warm greeting, bartender made lovely mocktails for us, delicious appetizers and main meals, warm and comfortable ambiance, service attentive. Will return with friends in the new year.
The food was excellent! Small menu but a good variety. We will definitely be going back.
fantastic meal and great service - great evening overall
Very good professional servers....food was delicious
excellent food, excellent service.. Overall great experience.
Cocktails and apps were awesome! The service was spectacular!!
Thoroughly enjoyed my evening at Oz Cafe. Wonderful setting. Service was excellent. The menu is small but delicious. I will definitely return.
We enjoyed a great evening here: attentive service, delicious food and cosy ambiance in beautifully restored heritage building.
Great service food and menu selection. The main door is a bit tricky to find. just walk around the Courtyard restaurant once. Depending on the direction you’ll pass the back entrance to Social. Then you will see it. It’s well worth it. I’ll be a regular there.
Picked this restaurant from google. After looking at reviews, menu & photos I decided to make a reservation. My daughter-in-law's father was in town & he wanted to take me out to dinner. We were impressed with the building & ambience, the menu & the service. I found delicious vegetarian dishes & my host (who didn't want steak or fish not caught in BC & is eating duck at Christmas) enjoyed a cheese platter followed by rabbit. I didn't need to be nervous, thank you for an enjoyable evening!
I believe it was Anthony as our server. He was great. Great recommendations. Over all the food was plentiful and excellent flavours. I took it home!
Enjoyed it all. Although I’d prefer a beef tenderloin instead of the sirloin. I found it a bit tough.
Beautiful resto and great service. The bread and oil is amazing!
