Oz Kafe in the ByWard Market, York Courtyards in Ottawa, Ontario.
Historical Building, great ambiance, and an outdoor patio.
Food is European inspired, locally sourced and veg forward.
OzKafe is a unique dining and cocktail experience on all fronts. I have been to this fabulous spot several times and am always amazed at the stellar service and the quality of the unique food offerings. The interior ambiance is outstanding: cozy, well decorated, chic-elegant farm house with a touch of industrial charm. The staff are eclectic, passionate, on point, and friendly. Love it!
It was lovely as always! Looking forward to our next visit. Thanks so much Oz!
The food was good but not great. My fish was over cooked any guests chicken was super salty. I had heard such great things about this restaurant so I was quite disappointed with the food. Overpriced for the quality of food.
We shared the gnocchi as an appetizer and they were excellent. We had a difficult time choosing the mains because they all sounded good. Ended up with the Cornish game hen and the beef that was perfectly cooked. Dessert was one of the sorbets. The overall price was good; service was excellent and enjoyed the overall feel of the restaurant. I would definitely go back next time I am in Ottawa.
This restaurant checked all our boxes. The ambience was trendy and rustic at the same time. Aryn, our server, steered us through excellent wine choices throughout the evening and shared her story and her passion for wine. This added to the amazing dining experience. The charcuterie board was exquisite and the meals themselves were excellent (stuffed zucchini, halibut and Cornish hen). The evening ended with delicious mocha sorbet and banana chocolate chip ice cream. We will definitely include Oz Cafe in our dining experience on future trips to Ottawa!!
Amazing! Every time we go to Oz we are not disappointed. The service, ambiance, quality of food and taste is always there. It is one or our favourite place to go, and have a nice delicious, tasty and enjoyable dinner. We love Oz!
We decided to sit out on the patio. It was a beautiful evening and the patio is in a square off the Main Street, so nice atmosphere.
I’ve been going to Oz since it was located on Elgin. It’s usually an outstanding experience but tonight the baseball steak was gristle and the salad wasn’t washed properly so I got sand and silt with the greens. If this had been my first experience with Oz it would probably have been my last.
We loved every minute. The food was exquisitely prepared. The bartender was knowledgeable and generous. Our server was generally attentive and helpful. I would have liked to hear more about the ingredients themselves and their origin. The ambiance in the courtyard was private but social. We will return as soon as possible.
My wife and I booked this on a hot summer Saturday. The patio was busy, so we opted for inside....which was quiet, and much cooler. We’d spent the day driving then walking all around Ottawa in 39 Celsius humidity.
We shared an appetizer of aged cheddar and duck terrine. It came with plenty of sophisticated accompaniments-pickled onion, peppers, pickles - two different mustards...and plenty of sourdough slices (from a boule...grilled perfectly.)
My wife had 6oz baseball sirloin...with charred broccoli, pan roasted new potatoes....with a herbed pan jus....amazing! (Yes...I tried it!)
I had the grilled wild boar! With a white bean purée, with a blueberry balsamic reduction (I think?)...it was so good....I forget the other sides.
The wine was a 2017 Terrasses Pesquie Grenache Syrah....which went great with both!
Most of the food is locally sourced, except for the wine. A limited and thoughtful menu.
The service was attentive, informative and friendly. But not overwhelming and allowed us to have a quiet long dinner to ourselves.
A lovely place to celebrate a birthday! All four of us enjoyed our meals, the service was excellent, and the ambience was perfect.
Food and drinks were amazing. You get good bang for your buck with the mains and desserts but some appetizers are very pricey: 40 bucks for 2 pieces of cheese and 2 charcuterie items is too damn steep. Attentive and friendly service and they even expertly handled a mistake made with my order. We sat outside even though it was sizzling out cause the courtyard is just too damn cute. And wonderfully quiet. A great overall experience.
Delish. Awesome meal and great service.
I had a wonderful dinner with a friend there this evening. Fabulous atmosphere, excellent service and delicious selections. Scrumptious!
Oz Kafe, was a wonderful experience.
Our meal, service and attention to detail was amazing.
We started with two charcuteries, the grey wolf, and duck liver pate. The portions were a very good size, and delicious. Our main entrees were Halibut and Cornish hen.
We did not have room for dessert.
Will definitely return, as we live in the market.
Would strongly recommend.
A bit tricky to find in the alley but worth the search. There are mains but we stuck with appetizers and the charcuterie selections. For two of us, one appetizer and 5 selections was more than enough. The tempura asparagus appetizer must have taken only seconds to get to our table it was as light as can be. All 5 charcuterie were assembled and very attractive on one platter. We'll be back ... with friends.
Delicious food and wonderful old building with lots of character!
I love this restaurant - everything about it is a treat! The location, the physical surroundings (tucked away in the courtyard of the Byward Market), the vibe and staff are all top notch. Drink selection is superb and the food is very tasty with generous portions!
Happy place. tasty food. The waiter remembered us and we sat on the patio. So relaxing. The cornish hen was really flavorful and the morel main dish was equally tasty. The prices are reasonable (for food of this calibre) and the wine list is very good. A nice low stress place to go for a semi-classy meal in the market.
Was there on a Friday night and it was moderately busy. A great gem in the Byward market area inside a stone courtyard. I had the Cornish hen and my friend had tuna. They were both amazing. Awesome chocolate brownie desert too. I can’t wait to go back.
I enjoy everything about this place. The location, the setting, the ambiance, the service, the food - I think it's a terrific place for a meal whether it is personal or business. Whenever I'm in town on business I end up here - often more than once!
40th Wedding Anniversary
We had a terrible experience at Oz Kafe last weekend. The two items on the menu we were looking forward too were replaced with other, less appealing options. Four of the five beers we tried to order from the menu weren't in stock. Then the waiter dumped an entire glass of wine down my friend's back! Sure, it was an accident, but they didn't comp us ANYTHING on our bill until we complained! Then, to be fair, we were fairly compensated for the trouble. But sadly it's a gift certificate to their restaurant, and we really aren't keen on going back... we'd rather get some stuff free from our bill instead. With so many options in the Market, I'm really surprised this place is doing so well... we'll certainly choose elsewhere next time.
We had a wonderful dinner and our server was fantastic. She was gracious and incredibly knowledge. The only caveat is that there was a problem with microphones and speeches from a gathering upstairs were at times taking over the entire dining room. We’ll definitely go back.
We were the third large group in a small area so it was very loud and also hot . The waiter accommodated our request to move to the patio which was great . The drinks were great and the charcuterie board was delicious. Because we went as a large group , some of the food came out a bit cold but tasted good . Our waiter was incredible
Tasty food, solid service. Excellent drink menu. Music was a little loud, but a great date night out.
Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The servings were a bit smaller then expected, but reasonable. Would definitely go back.
Perfect choice for a special occasion! Intimate location serving delicious food with good service. The background music was not loud and complimented our dining experience. We will return! 👍👍
My husband enjoyed his steak. The wild boar chop was rather bland, as was the shrimp appetizer. The tempura asparagus appetizer was fine, but paired with a very overpowering smoked red pepper dip, and the asparagus stalks were stacked in the sauce, so it was hard to avoid. The banana sorbet was refreshing. The vanilla tart was very bland and didn't taste of vanilla, just bland. The chocolate brownie was dry and very dense. I enjoyed the sparkling wine and glass of Syrah very much, and the service was excellent. We kept ordering because we wanted to give the menu a fair try and a friend recommend the place. Despite this, we might give Oz another try, and choose different menu items and hope to enjoy it more.
Great food and vibe. Reasonable prices. One of my favourite spots in town.
Great food and service, but the wait for the main dishes was way too long.
Had an intimate dinner with my wife. Food was sooooo good! Drinks were amazing. Antonio our waiter gifted my wife the dessert for her birthday. A++ all the way.
Beer selection was amazing. Server was great. Charcuterie plates off the charts. Mains were superb. The historic building adds so much. Loved it there.
My risotto was excellent. Topped with pine nuts. Shared a very delightful cheese plate.
We had a wonderful meal, each dish excellent. One glitch: I had requested a quieter table, and we were shown to one directly under a speaker and near a table set for ten! Luckily, there was a quiet table at the other end of the room which was perfect, and the staff obligingly moved us there.
I am quite picky when it comes to dining out but I adore this restaurant. The food is amazing and the service is wonderful. The location and ambiance are also quite memorable. It is a favourite for me here in Ottawa and it is a place that I will happily and confidently recommend to others.
Oz was an amazing night out! Amazing food and great ambiance. I loved their customized charcuterie option (bonus that Sunday charcuterie selections were 50% off!).
Food and service amazing. We did not have a good table location otherwise recommend.
