They just updated the menu. The scallops were very nice and the sauce on pasta they came with was delicate and didn't overwhelm the sweet taste of the scallops. The grilled apple salad was very nice! The brownie dessert with vanilla gelato and carmel sauce was the perfect ending

The server was very nice and chill, but other than that I would not say the experience was worth the price. It was my third time going to Pago and I found the burger was soggy, and the drinks were lackluster. That on top of the fact you have to put a credit card down when making a reservation and yet we still got placed in one of the worst tables in the restaurant… I will be dining elsewhere in the future.

Could just be the style of food but I thought given the price it could have been better. The apple salad was nice with a good pairing of flavors. We liked the sour dough bread. The brussel sprouts were over cooked, almost burnt. It made it so you could not enjoy the flavor of the vegetable. The food was fine but given the cost we were expecting amazing. The restaurant is unique but small making it very crowded and somewhat loud. It just didn’t feel like fine dining. If you are looking for fancy food that has unique pairings this is a place for you. It just wasn’t for me.

PagoResponded on February 27, 2023Hi Downtoearth, Thank you for your review! I'm sorry your experience did not go as expected. We are not a fine dining establishment, no valet service or bow ties here! Our entire mission is to offer upper-scale dishes with local, high quality ingredients in a more approachable setting (cancelling out the fine-dining big bucks). It does sound like your brussels sprouts were in the deep-fryer a little too long! I hope you can experience them at their best on your next visit!

Our server Sophia made our experience wonderful, she was very attentive. The food was okay, I had the stroganoff and it was flavorless. I was disappointed because our children gave us a gift card here because they were so excited for us to try it. Wish I could have given it a higher rating.

We love Pago and have been many times. This was our second year in a row for the Valentines Day special. Last year was so magical, we definitely wanted to come back. Overall, we did have a very enjoyable time. This year we had some real winners and a few closer to average. The oysters were fantastic. I don't even care for oysters, but they were delicious. My wife had the Beetroot Ravioli, which was perfect. I had the cioppino, which was nice, but not great. The intermezzo was also a huge hit. The complexity and simplicity captured in that small dish is admirable. For the mains, I had the scallops and risotto, which was amazing. My wife had the spaghetti, which was ok. Lastly, the desserts were also a bit of a mixed bag. The gelato was so tasty, while the brownie was dense, cold, and heavy and the apple cake was ok. So overall, the meal was good with hits and misses. We did get sat by the door and it was bitter cold outside, so I know that had a little bit of influence on the evening...more of a mental note to request in the reservation to not sit by the door. But perhaps the biggest disappointment of the evening was the service. Our waitress was nice and polite, but we have become accustomed to the wait staff giving us a bit of a description of the dish or the wine pairing, particularly given the chef is so talented and creative...it is always interesting and beneficial to hear what is in the dish. Repeatedly, our waitress would set the dishes or the glasses down without saying a word. We would ask her to tell us which wine we were drinking or to describe the dish. With each course, the pattern would repeat itself...set the item down...attempt to walk away...we would call out and ask for information. Of course we will be back because we have enjoyed the restaurant for so many years, but for the price and for the specialness of V-day, it was a little disappointing.

PagoResponded on February 19, 2023Hi Justin, Thank you for your constructive review! I'm very sorry the service you were provided did not meet our standards. We are addressing this internally. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do, thanks!

Food is way overpriced. $30 for a bolognese I expect to be blown away. Same with the stroganoff. I expect quality homemade noodles etc. I could have made the same dishes for $5-10.

PagoResponded on February 19, 2023Hi Jonathon, I'm sorry your experience with us was negative. We actually do make all of our pastas and sauces in-house and the local ingredients we use are of top quality, which can be pricy. I hope you are willing to give us another chance in the future!

We made a reservation and then received a call that the kitchen would be closing at 2:00 pm. That was the time of our reservation. So we drove over before the kitchen closed. The staff was scarce. We were offered water, my husband asked for sparkling water but only got still water. Eggs were over cooked for poached eggs. All the other food was very good.

We were so excited to go!! We discussed the menu all week. Little did we know that they did a different brunch menu on Saturdays so we didn't get any of the items we drove for. But the staff was great and the food was good. The hamburger was very juicy, the eggs Benedict we're so far, the potatoes were amazing. The salmon was flavorless which was strange considering it was in a bed of flavored rice. But over all it was good.

Overall poor experience. We had a reservation and we’re the first people in that morning a party of 2 and a party of 6 came in and we’re sat after us. Both parties received their food before we did. We sat for 45 minutes before we received our appetizer. which was a cold dish.. hard to understand what took so long.. When we talked to the waiter about it she was completely tone deaf. She never apologized for the bad experience and made no effort to make accommodations the make up for it. Then, while I was still eating she brought the check over? I’d barely made it through 1/2 my meal. There was no question about it. The food was good once it finally came but top to bottom - pretty bad experience. We were able to laugh about how bad it was and that was the only good thing that came out of it.

PagoResponded on January 15, 2023Thank you for your review Dane! I'm sorry to hear of your negative experience with the gnocchi. We have enjoyed Pago many times and this particular dinner was excellent. Our waitress was working with a large table and the manager visited our table of two with a friendly smile and took our order. We greatly appreciated how the manager understood that we could be waiting a while because the large table was taking up time. Next, our waitress was equally engaging and thanked us for our patience. The food was superb, atmosphere cozy and just right on a cold Saturday night. Pago is an SLC treasure. The mushrooms were my favorite.

Original flavors and the mushroom appie, and Faroe Islands salmon with David’s suggestion of Russian Valley white wine was incredible. Music was audible and actually really good. I had pretty high hopes for Pago, having heard wonderful things about its farm-to-table approach and elevated but casual dining experience... but it fell short of what I was expecting. A quick caveat: this was December 26th, the observed day for Christmas in 2022 so the place was likely understaffed, which probably had an affect on my party's experience. The experience: My party was seated outdoors in a corner away from the heating elements. The hostess was initially kind and dismissed our request to sit inside instead. The server started off attentive but, after our initial order, we were left completely alone with no updates until, after 40 minutes, the server buzzed our table to say "sorry for the wait." It ended up being another 10-15 minutes after that that our single round of entrees finally arrived (no appetizers, no drinks besides water and a couple of glasses of wine across the table). The food: The burger was good, but the bacon was limp and the bun struggled to stand up to the juiciness of the beef and cheese. It's a common problem, but one more for a pub than a high middle tier restaurant. The fries were great and portion size was good, overall. Around a 4/5. The gem lettuce salad was interesting and had popcorn to provide some additional substance beyond the lettuce itself, but it overpowered the rest of the salad. Probably like a 3/5. The bolognese tasted like it came from a jar. Overly salty and acidic, it lacked depth. The pasta it came with was fine and portion size was fine. I think it'd be a 2/5. The short rib stroganoff's sauce was thin and bland, with the short rib meat itself stringy and tougher than would normally be expected. The pasta it came with and portion size were fine. I'm thinking it would be a 3/5. Overall: I won't be suggesting Pago to friends for dinner, though I'd probably meet someone there if they suggested it for lunch.

We flew into Salt Lake on the way to a wedding in Provo. We had a quick dinner with my husband’s cousin soon after landing and he suggested Pago. There are two locations but the one on 9th was a few blocks from the cousins place. Dinner was great! We ordered family style starting with the mushrooms, cheese plate and the beets. The sourdough bread was excellent. Then i had the salmon, hubby had the Argentinian shrimp and cousin had the gnocchi. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Overall bill was very reasonable for three grown men for dinner.
