Very good sea food. But since we felt rushed to finish, it made the experience less enjoyable. I also made a special request while completing the reservation (on OpenTable) that we were there celebrating our daughter's birthday. At no point did anyone mention/acknowledge this or offer to put a candle on her dessert. What's the point of having a special request section on the reservation if the restaurant ignores it?

Our second visit to Austin and Perla's is a must every time. Excellent, fresh seafood with a nice variety of options, all wonderfully prepared. Waitstaff is friendly, knowledgeable & professional.

Perla is normally not my favorite. There are better choices in town like Eddie Vs, Clark’s, Monger and even Salt Traders, but we were nearby and they had a table. Starting from the host asking me to spell my name (it’s Stafford Wood, yes it’s different but it isn’t unintelligible) and the other host pointing her to it on the list, our service experience seemed to be “the one that got away.” The host who could read and smiled at us was replaced by the sourpuss who needed help. We were seated and told as a parting comment “good idea to sit next to each other, it’s really loud in here.” Exactly how you want your host to welcome guests, but at least she was friendly and actually seemed concerned that we have a nice dinner. Our server, on the other hand, was not. She was apparently “taking care of other things” so a very nice man came and took our drink orders. That was the end of service worthy of the fine dining moniker. She “didn’t hear” that we ordered a wedge salad to share even though we asked if the kitchen could split it and she nodded. She generally was distracted, rarely made eye contact and never smiled. We ate one of our terrible Brussels sprouts and she neither asked about them nor offered to box them when she bussed them hardly touched. The crab cake was underwhelming. The fish was blah. Everything used to be better. The worst part of the whole thing was when I bit into an unreasonably spicy jalapeño and my eyes teared up. We flagged her down for a sip of milk. She said “there are definitely peppers in there.” Not oh my goodness I’m so sorry. Or oh dear! (As an aside I’m from south louisiana and eat spicy things all the time, sometimes you just get a crazy hot one, it happens). So she leaves to saunter and eventually bring me milk… and then charged me $4 for the milk. Our meal was $247. The $4 wasn’t a big deal, but it was an insult. We went down to Vespaio for dessert and promised ourselves to never go back to Perla.

We went for an afternoon birthday celebration. Service was not very good. The shrimp and grits was way too spicy and when I asked for bread so I could manage to eat some of it, I waited 30 minutes, so we just packed it up and took it all home when it finally arrived. It was ridiculous! There was no birthday cupcake, piece of candy or anything and we spent almost $200 for lunch for 2.

Sat outside , just beautiful. Food amazing. Our server had way too many tables and the bar took forever to get our coffee out. It’s not their fault, your lack of staffing or planning set them up for a bad day.

Acorns falling from trees on outside patio broke open one head with blood, another acorn landed in i and old fashioned and destroyed the drink and the third acocon landed in the seafood dish and knocked off a crown from a tooth. Other than that great service and food.

It was wonderful to see a card greeting at our table that celebrated my birthday. We sat close to a window so we were able to enjoy an outside view. I was happy to be able to get a reservation for my birthday. We've been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time. It was amazing!

Perla's is a great Austin institution. It is not cheap but it is seafood in a landlocked city so what do you expect. I have never had bad service here or bad food.

It was nice, but in the effort to “simplify” the menu by letting you choose sauces… it just gave too many choices and didn’t feel signature. Perhaps it is a Texas thing. The bad news is I was sick with a stomach issue that had to be from either the oysters or scallops I ate there and that never happens to me. It was very expensive for two people and we were both hungry soon after. I can’t understand eating a seafood dish with no bread, side potatoes or something. Was just annoying.

We received a glass of Prosecco, half a dozen oysters, one app, and two lobster rolls. Meal did not feel worth $180 (check + 20% tip). Lobster roll felt grossly overpriced at $49. Server was friendly but hardly around. We were also celebrating a birthday, which was noted on the reservation, but it was never acknowledged. Most restaurants offer a small dessert for celebrations, which we didn’t receive. Perhaps it isn’t something you offer, but we didn’t even receive a “We see you’re celebrating today!”. Overall, this was my first experience here and it was really underwhelming. The price did not match the experience.
