Not what I expected... This was our first time in this highly-rated restaurant. We had late night reservations and were looking forward to trying several things on the menu.
The good: the pasta ! OMG very good. The fried chicken and the Veal parmesan. Excellent.
The not so good: it's way too boisterous. The space design makes it very noisy and there were two large groups having a party. The service at first was a bit curt but warmed up and became quite good after an hour (although there are many people working, it took 15-20 minutes to get service). Some of the food (octopus) was not so good (tough and under-seasoned). This was quickly corrected by our waiter and the rest of the evening went well.
Just not up to the level of what we had heard. Some details need to be better for the price level.
We had an unpleasant experience. Upon arrival I was told when I was expected to leave, server was generally annoyed with any questions or dietary restrictions. Our empty dishes where left in front of us for at least 20min, our bill was delivered and we were reminded we needed to leave in 10min. even though there were avaliable tables.
Great room, staff, vibe and creative dishes; chopped salad, pizzas with extraordinary toppings and crust, pastas.... veal chop parmesan.... get there!
The place was beautiful inside the food was just alright.
I’ve been to piano piano three times now. The first two times were great but this last one wasn’t great. I usually try different dishes. The bodega pizza wasn’t enjoyable and reminded me of a burger but our server noticed we didn’t like it and didn’t ask if we were enjoying our food nor was really present. As well, the size of my main truffle linguini was the same size as my friends cavatelli which was an appetizer the only size difference was the plate. I understand truffle might sway the price but both are fixed at $17 and $24. It’s kinda jarring to see when they both came out. Also, the broken cookie in the desert in a mug was kinda lazy presentation. I just expected more. :( also my server didn’t offer chilis, Parmesan or pepper. I also waited 15 mins for my table that I reserved.
Absolutely amazing! Great place to take an out of towner to impress them. Service was excellent. We (two people) shared 3 small size pastas and they were all amazing. Would definitely go again.
My friends and I love meeting for weekend lunch at Piano Piano. Their lunch menu is great. Always excellent service too!
Piano Piano was a great spot for date night! My boyfriend and I shared an appetizer, pizza, and side which were all delicious.
Amazing food and service! Staff was friendly. Food was delicious. 2 thumbs up :)
My hubby and I both ordered the veal dish. Our server did not ask us how we wanted our veal cooked. It came rare... very bloody and we had to send it back.
Also the description did not say it was going to be served like a stew.... disappointing.
The chopped salad was however very delicious.
Great food! Each dish was excellent but the absolute stand-out favourite was the pumpkin pasta in a sage and browned butter sauce. Egg ravioli were excellent as well. And the lemon basil cake...wow!!
The restaurant looks great, the wine was good but the food was ok. I had the truffle pasta and would have expect something good and surprising but instead I got something unflavored.
Overall, the place is overrated.
Wine list is extremely well priced and the food is out of this world, service is attentive but forgetful.
The dining room is the main issue, large cafeteria feel and not very cozy, tall ceilings make for permanent clinging cutlery noises.
We decided to celebrate my sister’s birthday at Piano Piano and everything was excellent, including the mini firecracker/candle on the tiramisu. It was a delightful and surprising end to a superb meal !
Our server Ryan made the birthday we were celebrating a success!! It was such a beautiful place and the egg yolk Raviolo was divine. 10/10 would go back!!!
Absolutely delicious food. The servers were friendly but we had several instead of just one. They never seemed to know who had ordered what. I feel this should be improved.
My friend and I stopped in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. The restaurant was fairly empty so we were seated right away.
The decor was absolutely beautiful. A very spacious and elegant space while being completely instagram worthy.
We ordered the lunch special which included an appetizer, a pizza or pasta, and soft serve ice cream. All for $24!!
The service itself was amazing. Our server was very attentive and polite.
As for the food, it was delicious! We both had the calamari to start, then shared the mushroom cavatelli and the canestri alla vodka. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The cavatelli especially had a nice chew with such a flavorful mushroom sauce. The canestri had a good spice level to it from the chili and the nduja. Finally, we had apple pie flavored soft serve which actually tasted exactly like apple pie.
Great experience. Very social atmosphere. Table are quite close together. Not a quiet private atmosphere if that’s what your looking for. Food was outstanding. Good portions. Friendly staff. Menus could have more explanations of the dishes but not a major issue.
I love Piano Piano and eat there regularly. The service is warm, welcoming and attentive and the food is delicious. This is one of the best restaurants in Toronto.
Perfect spot for New Years, great food & service
Truly a fantastic New Years Meal. We were a bit sceptical because it was a set menu and it didn’t say online what we would be having but the selection was huge and EVERYTHING we had was amazing. Thank you! We will be back.
Always great food and service. Appreciate the spot on suggestions of the sommelier!
I had an incident involving my 2 year old daughter who has an anaphylactic allergy to dairy. I had heard through the allergy community grapevine that this restaurant was excellent at accommodating food allergies. We rarely venture out for meals because there is always a risk and nothing is guaranteed. I know this. But it was my birthday and Piano Piano had a great reputation for being "allergy-friendly". So upon arrival, I notify the waiter of my daughter's allergy. He consulted with the kitchen and let me know which menu items were "safe" for her. We order the chicken bites. She devours it all so we order another. The waiter inputs it into the system for the kitchen. The chicken arrives in a little dish. Had I not poured out the contents onto a larger plate, I would not have seen that it had been cooked in butter and that the chicken was sitting in a pool of melted butter. This restaurant does not live up to nor does it deserve its reputation of being allergy friendly. I have been to restaurants where as soon as you mention an allergy, the manager comes to consult with you about menu items and personally oversees your meal. Food allergies are becoming more and more common and deserve to be taken seriously. You are alienating a large community. Piano Piano was careless. There was no note made about my daughter's allergy in the computer system resulting in inadequate communication with the kitchen. Provide better training for your staff and follow stricter procedures when there is a food allergy. What makes the whole situation even more disappointing is the fact that I emailed the restaurant afterwards to voice my concerns; it has been two weeks and my email has gone unanswered. If you have food allergies, please consider another restaurant.
Birthday and anniversary
Amazing experience period. The pasta was delicious and good portioned. The decor is gorgeous and the service was great. They tiramisu was also wonderful. It’s more dense than most. I would definitely go back!
Excellent evening out with the children back from university. From the Pizza to the Truffle Pasta, everything was excellent. Fantastic service. We’ve already booked a return visit for March break.
Was a little disappointed in the overall experience. Some of the dishes were pretty greasy (particularly the brussel sprouts and cauliflower - parts of the cauliflower dish were also raw). My daughter ordered the pasta and it was quite bland. As a kids side they have sweet potato fries but really it's boiled sweet potato cut in strips - so that was misleading. The portion sizes were odd as well. The brussel sprouts and cauliflower were very generous (we couldn't finish) but the calamari was so small. It's a beautiful space with a great vibe but you're paying a premium for what should be really great food and unfortunately that wasn't our experience.
Food was outstanding. Loved the open concept kitchen. Service was attentive and friendly. Wish they hadn’t ran out of the bone in veal Parmesan, was looking forward to that. Seating was also very tight. Overall I think this is a fantastic restaurant, I would go back for the garlic bread and pasta alone!
Incredible food, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommend!
I’ve been to a lot of Italian restaurants in the past but this one by far surpassed expectations. Food. Service. Ambiance. Excellent! Would come here again in 2019 hands down!
I love Piano Piano. Their Silver platter is next level.
First time at Piano Piano - definitely won’t be my last! Every dish was absolutely delicious can’t wait to come back!
Very much enjoyed the food. Wine was OK but not a wow. Not a huge selection by the glass. And servers knowledge about wine was so so. Highly recommend the chopped salad and chocolate caramel Boudini for dessert.
Food was great
The food was absolutely delicious! Thanks so much for a fabulous lunch. We’ll definitely be back.
Great food, great portions, great price for the lunch special!
Amazing twist on a classic Italian menu. Food was delicious, service was 5 star. Everything down to the little details was well thought out and executed. The egg yolk ravioli was out of this world! Beyond our expectations!!
Piano piano wowed us with their horrible service!
We ordered take out and due to the way our server was, we decided to check the take out order to make sure it's right. It turns out they forgot to give us the bread that was suppose to come with our Burrata appetizer. Prior to this, our server also made some errors so at this point we would like to let the manager know. The manager came over, sat down, defended the server by blaming it was her kitchen's teams fault and she was doing us a favor by letting us do take out. First of all, our server did not tell us that Piano Piano doesn't do take out. Secondly, if you decided to let us buy take outs then do it correctly.
The conversation ended by the manager telling us that, "you are entitled to feel what you feel."
I was disappointed by the service, but more so with the way the manager handled this situation and expressing that they are doing us a favour! It was like it's our fault for being upset that they forgot the bread that we paid for because they are doing us a favor by letting us do take outs and we shouldn't complain! I just have to emphasize, Was it free? Nope! Did we know you don't do take outs? Nope! Did you tell us? Nope!
It is a pity that the food at Piano Piano is not bad, but the service is horrendous.
