New York City restaurateurs Pietro and Kelly Molendini took over the classic St. James farmhouse turned restaurant. The former co-owners of Vite Vinosteria in Astoria, Queens, who had moved from the city to Centerport, spent the summer renovating the dining room to a modern, clean look with neutral tones and contemporary artwork from Pietro Molendini's native Rome. They also expanded the bar from about four to 11 seats.

Pietro Molendini has spent 30 years in the food industry, with a decade of that at Cipriani and stints at both Bar Pitti and Da Silvano. Along the way, he met chef Fabian Garcia Manca, who eventually headed the kitchen at Vito Vinosteria and now joins the Molendini’s in St. James. Kelly Molendini said Manca and her husband scour the tristate area and beyond for ingredients. "They are never home," she joked, and said that the pair source some of their meat from the Bronx, burrata from New Jersey and dried pasta from Italy and Sicily.

We had an intimate family dinner (10 ppl) here for my husband‘s 40th birthday. The food was spectacular and the service was very good. The atmosphere was beautiful. There was also a jazz band which we really enjoyed. We would deff go back.

We had high expectations for this restaurant but those were changed after waiting 20 minutes for any waiter/waitress to come by our table. Thankfully Christian stopped by our table and couldn’t believe we hadn’t even gotten drinks. His service was incredible but the rest of our dinner experience quite poor. Our food fair at best after waiting 45 minutes more for that. Unfortunately we won’t be back.

We’ve been here on several occasions and always a great night!!! Seating inside is cozy & welcoming or outside where he’s decorated it so beautifully! Service is always excellent and the FOOD - exceptional!!!

Due to the heat we chose to sit indoors but many took advantage of the outdoor seating with live music. We had jazz playing inside. Restaurant was warm & friendly. It had that simple home-like casual decor that we prefer rather than the glitz of other places. We had the mussels & rice ball appetizers. Both very good. For entree's, I had the pasta with braised short rib and my wife had the eggplant tower as her meal. Both were excellent. We will be returning for sure.

Honestly, one of the best meals i have had in a while!! The Eggplant Pistachio i am still thinking about the the Pappardelle with Short Rib Ragu was delicious! My husband wanted the filet special but they were out, so when he asked to just have the mashed potato from the filet with his salmon he was told there was an upcharge for it - that was the only thing that left a poor taste for us that they didnt have the main item and were charging $5 for a simple starch switch due to that- Nonetheless - the food was AMAZING and we will definitely be back.

Service was good . Food was delicious. Wish though there were a few more choices of meals. We wanted to make a dish switch and was told only what’s on the menu. I would have preferred the chicken dish as a plain chicken or parm but couldn’t do it. Even a pasta with chicken would have been nice. As this was out first time there we’d go back again but doesn’t seem there’s enough varity of dishes we like. But overall food was delicious

Went there for our mothers 90th birthday dinner and as usual had a fabulously delicious meal, execellent service and yummy cocktails!. Pietro gifted the birthday girl with a bottle of Lemonchello-simply delish & homemade. Service of bartender & waitstaff was spectular as usual. We will be back. Thank youu for a great evening- quote from mom.

Food and service were good, but the noise level was unbearable. I highly recommend that Management sit larger groups of people outside, the inside is just too small to accommodate the noise volume. People truly do not know how to be considerate of others. :(

We try to go to Pietro once a week on a Saturday. The food is alway good and some of the specials tend to be unique. We had a salad with a lobster, tail, beets, and mango along with greens. It was excellent. We split the Porterhouse steak. It was very good. We had their cheese cake for dessert which was very good. The drinks are always good. Pietro and Pat (the bartender) always give us a complimentary dinner drink. We enjoy going there very much.
