About Piva Modern Italian Restaurant
In 1917, one of our forefathers, Giuseppe (Joe) Piva emigrated from northern Italy to interior BC. He spent the next five decades farming cattle, sheep, poultry, fruits and vegetables. Although he did not make his own wine, he grew grapes & provided them to close friends for their own bacchanalian pursuits. Piva Modern Italian Restaurant honors Joe’s passion for farm fresh ingredients, traditional Italian cooking and exceptionally prepared food and drink with a modern approach.
Our chef works hard, right before your eyes, using consciously sourced ingredients from local farms and artisans balanced by premium product imported from Italy and around the globe. Our wine list features many wines by the glass and carefully selected labels featuring the best of BC and Italy.

Piva Modern Italian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Great server Simona, great owners. Very very rude and unprofessional management. Mark rolled his eyes at me when I told him my reservation had been changed when I called in and basically told me I was wrong. Didn’t even bother to listen.
I had a wonderful birthday celebration at Piva - the food was simply fantastic and the service perfect. It is definitely becoming my favorite restaurant, not only in New Westminster but in the Lower Mainland.
We tried Piva for the first time and had a great night out with another couple on a date night. The manager, Mark came by our table and was extremely welcoming and made our visit very personal . Our server Alex was exceptional.
The food was very good. We had the boar meatballs, the arancini, as appetizers. They were delicious! I would pass on the Prosciutto pizza, as it was fairly flavourless, perhaps the pizzas may be better for a luncheon. For the main we had the lamb dinner and it was fabulous. Our friends had the Beet & Kale salad which they enjoyed, the eggplant appetizer which they were not so terribly fond of could be personal taste....and the fettucini which they said was very good. We were too full to look at the dessert menu, but will next time.
The mgr. and the waiter were very helpful with our wine selection. We were able to sample a couple of wines before we made our decision, which was a good choice with our dinner a recommended Italian red. We understand they are still working on their wine menu which is a combination of Italian and BC wines. All in all, we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant and to return again.
This review is from Sheila Clowes. I had dinner with my two granddaughters. We were pleased with everything and had a nice evening, Good food and good service. However I have Celiac disease so must eat gluten free. Please have some gluten free crackers available for the cheese and meat board and the pate tapanaude, and bruschetta board. That is not hard to do. Also gluten free pizza crust would be nice. I am coming back to Piva on Jan. 25 with lady friends for dinner and I'm sure they will all enjoy it.
Very good DT Vancouver vibe nice to see in New West. Good value. Good food. Owner was working the floor to insure everyone was happy.
Had a lovely birthday dinner for five. Meal was very satisfying and server was very attentive. Drinks came out a little slowly at the beginning. An extra free dessert for the table in honour of the birthday presumably was a nice touch and appreciated. I had heard that the portions were very small but that was not our experience - all were generous and appropriate for the price point. A very good experience overall and will definitely pay a return visit.
All was great, the food, the service, management.
To noisy ,need better accoustic.
First impression is that the service was incredibly slow. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. The portion was a bit smaller than expected. Everything including the drinks were way too sweet. We reserved a table for 4 but was seated at a table for 6, which was a minor but an annoyance regardless. For the price vs value, I don't think we'll be coming back any time soon.
Excellent Italian food in New Westminster. Really enjoyed the evening out with friends eating yummy food and drinking wine. There are quite affordable options in the pizza and pasta menu which our group ordered. The wine menu had a big selection of BC wines which one won't find in the BC liquor store. So great not to have to travel into Vancouver for a good Italian meal. Great art work adds to the ambiance.
Food was good but Our server was horrible. We went over 20 min with empty drinks twice - the second even after our dinner had arrived. I asked about gluten free and she then put in our order without that noted. My entree came with regular pasta. It then took forever to get her attention and we had eaten everything else by then. She offered to have another side made - I did not want to eat my side 30 min later. I ordered dessert and she didn’t offer any compensation for the mistake, it was suggested and she ignored it. All done and sitting there drinking water forever. Finally just had to ask for the bill. Still hungry. The pasta side was 85% of the sable fish dish
Got to the restaurant and was seated immediately. Server was by within minutes and got the drink order in. she was friendly and knew the menu well. Dinner and appies were great. I will definitely be back
Loved everything but the volume and the "tightness" of the seating. I found it just too loud for decent dinner conversation and a little hard for the "wait people" to get around. The risotto balls were to die for, the carbonara was "different", good but not at all traditional. The wild boar meatballs with spaghetti were delicious. The waitress was so lovely, the wine guy was a blast and the host at the door could not have been more courteous. Can't wait to go back again and try something new.
Absolutely amazing from beginning to end!!! The food was stellar and only outshined by the fabulous service we received from Tanner, Paul and Arif. We will definitely be enjoying a night out here again. We feel really lucky to have a gem like this in our area!
Best food I have had in a restaurant for a long time , amazing ! Wonderful server! Good pricing ! Great addition to N West!
Impeccable wine list, innovative takes on traditional Italian, gorgeous atmosphere and friendly professional service. We’ll be back for lunches, dinners and group events.
This is a great new restaurant for the neighborhood. The decor and ambiance was beautiful- much like a midrange trendy restaurant you’ll find in downtown Vancouver. Staff was friendly... but sadly lacked knowledge of their menu; they were excited to recommend their favorite menu items but when asked about the specials of the day or other ingredients in dishes they had a hard time listing them. Our server even came out showing us the special menu with painters tape attached to it; amusing but c’mon learn your menu! The overall dinner menu is pretty straight forward; something we’d expect they’d know by heart. We had the arancini which was perfectly fried and flavorful, the grilled calamari lacked “grilling” but the arugula salad it came with was pretty tasty. The spaghetti was mediocre and the linguini which was a fave among the servers but in my opinion too salty; the pancetta (overcooked and hard) and pasta ratio was way off. As for dessert... the chocolate cake was alright but the budino was salty and really off. We really wanted to like this restaurant and have been waIting to try it since it opened, but unfortunately we left feeling really confused. Maybe the kitchen staff had an off day, but the servers most definitely needed to brush up on their knowledge of their menu.
Would have been 5 stars all the way but our reservation was for 7:45 and we didn't get seated until after 9 pm. They need to work that out before I go again or recommend!
Food, service, ambience...everything was excellent. The prices for their dishes are very reasonable. Everything we tried (from appies to dessert) tasted great. Despite a reservation our seating was delayed, but everybody went way above and beyond to make us feel special and to make up for the wait. We'll definitely be back.
Our reaction was mixed. The young people in our group loved the atmosphere. The older ones found it extremely noisy and hard to have a conversation. We were somewhat isolated in a booth which helped. The food was good. My seafood pasta was quite spicy, drowning the delicate flavour of the seafood (which was beautifully cooked). The other pasta dishes were good. The lamb was excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. We would go again but try to find a quieter night.
Very nice staff. The restaurant owner is very hospitable and interacts with his customers throughout the evening. Highly recommend the dessert Moscato! (compliments of the owner for my girlfriend's birthday)
Excellent food, service and ambience. They were able to accommodate our seating preferences.
Great food. Enjoyed every dish. Service was awesome. Manager took time to come by to ask how things were going. Would go back. Its a tad pricey but nothing that would prevent me from going again for some fine dinning.
Everything about the restaurant was lovely, especially the interesting food items. The only negative would be on a busy night it might be quite noisy because of the high ceiling.
Very nice...they also have an alternate vegan/vegetarian menu (which I didn't try). Food was delicious. After an initial slow start, service was very attentive.
Simona was awesome. Food was awesome.
We went to Piva for New Year’s Eve and were extremely impressed. They had a few special menu items which made it tough to decide. The service was wonderful and the food was fantastic. We will definitely go back. So great to have another wonderful restaurant in the neighbourhood.
Just a lovely restaurant and a great addition to the suburbs. The restaurant has a great vibe, excellent food, a well thought out wine list and friendly staff. We love the option of a local restaurant that feels like it belongs downtown and saves us the 30 minute drive each way. This was our second time at the restaurant and would recommend it for a casual dinner or drink and, for a nice evening out. The owner is so welcoming and he made sure our experience was memorable. We will definitely be back soon and plan to bring our friends from downtown!
I love the ambience and decor in the restaurant! The location is also very convenient. The menu doesn't have lots selection for vegetarian but food was good. However, i feel rhe service there is average compared to the price they charge.
Long time residents of New West who eagerly awaited the opening of this restaurant. We were not disappointed! The staff were incredibly attentive, the food was delicious, and the evening was exactly as we’d hoped. We will be back soon, and often.
Elegant ambience, and wonderful service. The menu takes a creative and inventive approach to traditional Italian dishes. Wine list provides both domestic and imported choices that pair delightfully with the dishes on offer.
First time at Piva so tried a selection
The grilled calamari was perfectly done and nice and tender
The meatballs were fine but seemed a little under seasoned
Main course linguini carbonara with poached egg was flavourful and well presented
Pizza had nicely prepared crust and would make a nice shared appy
Great restaurant and excellent food and service. Will be going again.
A great discovery!
We really enjoyed our evening! Our server was so attentive and kindly. Food was great! Amur, one of the owner/ managers, came by and checked on us a couple of times. What an engaging, friendly gentleman! It was our Anniversary and they gifted us the most delicious dessert! Mmm...thank you!! Definitely recommend.
The ambiance was nice. Made a reservation in advance, but two tables were pushed together for our party of four upon our arrival. The tables were next to a noisy party and the restaurant was not busy, so I asked to be moved to a quiet booth; this request was accommodated. Service was mostly good, although we were not offered a refill on our coffee. For an Italian restaurant, pasta options were limited and nothing spectacular, especially for the price. The wine list has a pretty good selection of B.C. wines by the bottle, but the waitress was completely unaware of how these wines would pair best with the items on their menu. For me the best items on the menu were the risotto balls and the Ex Nihilo Merlot.
Good food but for the second time, service needs help.
With the exception of the manager the experience and food was exceptional.
Our service was impeccable and the dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious. Hayley was an amazing server and very attentive. Kudos to Piva and their lovely staff!
Have to say, we are very excited to have a nice Italian restaurant in New West. We have been 3 times since it opened, and really enjoy the food and drink selection. The management team is exceptional, and we fully recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice change to the usual places. Highly suggest the meatballs, incredible sauce.....
Great restaurant, great location, tasty real italian food, contemporary interior design. Would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or weekend lunch.
