Play Estate Winery and Bistro
Retail will remain open Monday to Friday (11am to 5pm)
Scenic views - good wines - good food -very friendly and attentive service - a tiny little bit overpriced - overall very recommendable
Food was awesome and well priced our host (Mel ) was knowledgeable and sweet Service was good wine was also great and well priced
Great location. Lots of seating. Food prices were reasonable. Food presentation and taste were very good. Would go back there sometime in the future.
I made a resevation for 4 at 7pm. Reservations are useless. They dont save you a nice table. They just say pick a table from whats left. P.s. they only had 2 reservations. Rest were random walk ins. The chairs on the patio are uncomfortable plastic patio chairs so your legs are hot. If you get a good table the view is nice but a reservation wont help. We were offered a wine tasting but the bar tender/server told us to stand there and left for 10 minutes. We like their moscato. The bottle of wine and good company are the only things that salvaged the night for me. We drank most of it before the meal came. It took a long time, they claimed they were backed up. Only eight tables taken. Hmmm. The food we ate was good. Maybe a bit pricey, for example 6 or 8 dollars for a side of potato chips. I have been here before a few times and had far better service. I can only guess at the staff/manager changes. I didnt take pictures as it would only be of the back of peoples necks and a dirt pile. Sorry, I may still pick up a bottle of wine but lost my business for dinner. If you want to be upscale you should have upscale service and seating.
The view was amazing and so was the food. The service was friendly, but unknowledgable about the wines offered. We asked several questions about the wine and the associate had no idea.
We chose Play Estate Winery due to the many positive reviews on the food. And the food was excellent. Suggestion - offer wines that pair nicely with items on the menu.
Fantastic food and fantastic wine. Dirty bird chicken sandwich (stolen name from Australia for KFC😁) was awesome. Love the 2015 Applause
Even though it was mentioned on our reservation there was no recognition that it was a birthday. Halibut was dry as was the pasta
Main course menu is limited, and one of the few main courses was not available. None of the others really had any vegetables. Special edition Chardonnay on the wine list was at room temperature and never did cool off enough in an ice bucket to be tasty.
Dinner atmosphere with a great view. Portions of food seemed small but were filling.
Following a problem with our open table reservation. The Restaurant stepped up to make us feel welcome.
In the end the food and service was excellent leading to great experience.
Server was excellent, meal was delicious and the beautiful view made it perfect!
Food and service were excellent.
Appetizers of Tempura Asparagus was excellent. Soup was unspectacular. Service was Exceptionally Friendly and Candid , but distracted. Appetizers sat under heat lamps while she conversed with staff. Tea refills were slow. Coffee forgotten.
Entres were below average. Beef Shank was tough and marinade was not complimentary. Chicken on salad was plain Boring.
Dessert trio had an excellent cheesecake. The lemon meringue was best. Ice Cream Cookie tasted like Dad's Store bought. HARD and tasteless. Not great value.
Washrooms were horrendous.
It's got million dollar potential, but run like a Dennys.
Enjoy the wine and view.
We had a wonderful lunch with friends. The food, service and view are second to none in Penticton. I absolutely adore the halibut.
The staff and service were very efficient and friendly. In articular Melanie and Deanne H. The facility was great and had an awesome view. The food was very tasty however the menu was tiny.
Our meals were extremely overpriced and very small portions. Upon arriving home after dinner we had a snack because we were still hungry. The Halibut dinner was 32.00 for a tiny piece of Halibut on top of a very small portion of rissotto. The ceasar salad was 15.50, again- for a tiny portion of Kale with ceasar dressing. The "average " wine we had with our dinner was 50.00. Our dinner ended up being 182.00 for a 24.00 chicken pot pie, 32.00 halibut, a 15.50 ceasar salad, 2 drinks, 1 bottle of wine and a 20.00 tip.
Will not return for dinner here.
Mothers Day lunch with my daughter was amazing. Started with a wine tasting and then shared some share plates. This is the 4th visit I’ve made to Play and the food has never disappointed
The food and wine and service were excellent. And the view was lovely. There's little more a person can possibly want.
Phenomenal view and great room but noisy due to a large party having a holiday party. The appetizers and main course were very good with a variety of options including vegan friendly for a small menu. Service was good and attentive but the server wasn't very familiar with the menu or the wines.
This was a great experience. From start to finish. We started with a wine tasting and then found out it was 1/2 price wine at the restaurant. What a great find. I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup and my husband had the burger - both were so good. Definitely would return for lunch or dinner. Great experience. Do not hesitate to come here
Mid week lunch for 3 and restaurant was fairly quiet. Food was excellent as usual but a little slow to arrive. Not much atmosphere.
Tremendous, the food, the service, awesome wine and an unbelievable view. Simply the best. If you are in Penticton, don't miss it
We had a very nice time, the food was excellent and it is kind of nice to be in a place on the "other side" of the lake.
What I do not appreciate though, is that, every time I book this place with open table, I get some scam texts on my cell phone. Open Table, Inc. should look at their security breeches.
We were recommended to try Play out by the couple we were staying with. When we arrived we were greeted with a smile and placed outside. The view of the lake is nice however you could hear the traffic on the highway, however after they put the music on, it drained away which was nice.
It did take around ten minutes until our server took our drinks and food order which was the first of four servers we had. I had ordered the steak which I requested medium rare but had to send it back as it was overcooked and my partner had the pasta which was lovely. By the time my new steak arrived, my partner had finished but we still enjoyed the moment!
I think they have a bit of work to do in order to improved the service. There was one manager and around five very young servers whom I do not believe have very much experience. As we were talking to a couple beside us whom had ordered dessert, a different server asked if we wanted the dessert menu which I replied "we haven't had our mains yet". There seems to be a lack of how to provide service as such a location and as such requires fixing! Both the manager and severs seemed to be rushing even though it was not busy.
At this moment in time we will not be returning which is a shame, but hopefully they improve the level of service and customer expectations.
What an awesome night! The steak dinner was to die for, the service rocked and the view of the lake is amazing...when in Penticton, you got to eat here! WOW!
Outstanding dinner with stellar views, the patio has views forever!
First time for the Play.
No regrets at all. Simply outstanding!
The view is fabulous.
The ambiance is superb.
Service was a step above.
This restaurant should be on everyone's top 5 list for Pentiction.
Nice view outside on the patio, the food is very good
This was our first visit for a girls lunch out. We had the okanagan market salad with the prawns and it was very good. Loved the prawns! We had the Ad Lib and Moscsto - both lovely wines - very fresh & citrusy on a hot day. Our waitress was friendly & knowledgeable but service was a bit slow. We were not offered dessert and water carafes/wine carafes should be served in ice buckets when sitting on the patio. It was a bit noisy from the airport but that can't really be helped. Overall, a good experience and would go back to try other menu items.
Situated over looking Skaha Lake, The Play is the perfect place for lunch or dinner. Great food choices, superb service and the option of a wine tasting prior to or after your meal.
Offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The decor is also very well done.
A friend recommended Play to us and overall, we really enjoyed ourselves. The food was very good, the view was amazing, we enjoyed the wine tasting, and the service was outstanding. I went online to make reservations in the morning but when we got there, the hostess could not find our reservation. Luckily, it wasn't busy and there was plenty of seating available. The other issue was that between the four of us, we got 3 different versions of the same menu! Different writeups and prices! Things seemed a bit disorganized possibly due to the anniversary party the night before. No matter, we really enjoyed our visit and plan on returning and bringing out-of-town company. A fun, casual winery with great food, wine and service! Would definitely recommend a visit!
Even though Open table confirmed our booking, sent me a reminder and I sent the confirmation to the other couple, the restaurant had no record of our reservation. I suspect it is the fault of the restaurant as Open table has worked for us in other countries. Since there was only one other table we didn't have a problem getting in. The food is very average and not what I expected for a winery. Wine is very limited and not of the calibre of other wineries in the area with far superior restaurants.
We had my birthday lunch here...so awesome, service and the view out of this world, THANK YOU Melissa and Ben and Katrina( the gift)!
For some reason when we arrived they had a private booking and even though we made a reservation through OpenTable they were unable to seat us. They blamed open table.
Needless to say we weren't impressed not having a place to go for dinner news years eve.
This was a great venue to gather with friends for a special birthday lunch. The view was spectacular on a clear wintry day. We all chose the roasted vegetable salad which was delicious. I definitely recommend this restaurant!
The food was great...very tasty and nicely presented. The wine was mediocre.
This restaurant hadn't been open long when we went but they are off to a good start. The staff were super friendly and the food was delicious. We were there on a cool cloudy day and while the view is spectacular, it may get quite hot on a sunny day as the patio faces south. After lunch, stop at the wine tasting bar which is right there integrated with the restaurant. We've picked up their blends a couple of times and they are delicious and very reasonably priced. Also, if you want to give guests arriving by air a treat, stop at Play on the way back from picking them up. They'll be wowed by the 2 minute proximity to the airport.
It was a very quiet night so we had almost the undivided attention of the lovely server/manager. We where celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary. Food was really good and different. Loved the Kale salad (as did a lot of my friends when we compared notes.)
Beautiful view, modern facility and excellent wine for a new winery.
The food was very good but very limited choices. A broader menu would make the experience perfect.
Prices were at par with other wineries in the area.
The service was excellent .
Great view, great service, but very limited wine list (didn't review the menu prior to going - only two reds by the glass or three bottles).
My only complaint was the price point. I found both the wine and the food very pricey. I have been to many wineries to eat and they are all a bit on the expensive side but I found Play to be even more so. Service was excellent , views are stunning and food was very tasty. Wine is good for a new winery but again more expensive than most other wineries
