Portland Variety Ratings and Reviews
Ran out of olive brine
Our sever was rude and I think forgot to enter our order because all the tables around us came after and got their food first. When we asked why it was taking so long he didn't really care. Finally the manager came by and she was lovely and apologized for the wait and gave us a free dessert. That was really nice but for what we were spending at a nice restaurant I think a little more could have been done.
Compared to all other places I've been downtown for dinner, the food was good but not worth the price and portion you receive. I would only recommend Portland Variety for brunch and coffee at this point.
Perfect lunch menu options; great food; great service. What more could you want in hipsterville?
Attentive service, good food, and nice atmosphere. We went for breakfast late on a Monday morning though so mileage may vary.
This was my 3rd dining experience at Portland Variety. While the ambiance and service was decent, the portions were very small and we didn't really feel like we got much for the ~$300 bill. Might come back, but only for an occasion.
Food was great and easy to share despite dietary concerns! And the staff were really fun and knowledgeable.
Love everything about this spot!!!
Will definitely be visiting again.
Great food, amazing service.
It was my birthday, and the server made it feel special:)
The food was amazing! We had the oxtail gnocchi and the rib eye Wellington, both amazing. I’d definitely go back for that oxtail gnocchi!
Waiter did not seem genuine. Also very rushed and seemed passive aggressive. Nice to our faces though and had great suggestions.
Food seemed over priced
Great breakfast and delicious coffee.
I didn't find there to be very many tapas options. And everything was very deep fried or included a lot of bread. There could have been more variety in terms of meat and veg option. The food was nice, but pricy for what you get.
Great food and great service!
First time visiting Portland Variety for dinner with a friend and was extremely happy with the food. When I saw the small menu, my expectation of the food quality was extremely high. I was not disappointed. The food came out in a timely manner, giving my friend and I ample time to enjoy the food, have good conversation until the next dish came out. The servers were extremely knowledgeable with the drink and food menu which really helped a fist time visitor like myself. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the food items!!!
Portland Variety was just OK - nothing outstanding but not terrible. Food portions were somewhat small, despite this being more tapas. Cheese buns were tiny, meatballs while ok in size were a little blah in taste (nothing savory, little spice), octopus was the best thing we ordered. Overall, it came highly recommended but failed in my opinion to live up to the hype we were told
Food was great, loved that we could share everything! Server was just okay, didn't say much and was never in sight so it was hard to flag him down. Other than that I would come back!
Food was average, service was subpar, it just wasn't the greatest dinning experience.
I wasn't terribly excited about the food there. Opted for the ribeye sandwich and it wasn't what I was expecting. It was just another pressed sandwich I could have made at home.
I like the vibe, but I won't be rushing back to eat there.
Delicious mushroom salad with chicken. The sauce that accompanied the chicken was mouth-watering. Of course we ended our meal with a chocolate chip cookie!
Been here multiple times with friends on double dates or just to take visiting friends out in the neighbourhood. The service is always the best, the food is delicious and the ambience is great!
Most enjoyable meal on their patio. Creative cooking, attentive staff. Everything about this place works
Another great meal here, the food is tapas style so does end up expensive. The cheese bread is fab.
We came for a later evening snack both having had very late lunches. We sensed the waiter wasn't happy with our smaller than usual dinner order. Upon receiving the food, we were never asked how the meal was. Felt like waiter left us alone as we are guessing he was calculating that his tip probably might be lower than other tables due to the order size. The gnocchi was very salty and the cornish hen was on the dry side. The fries were good. We decided to order small and see how we felt after our order came but not feeling very welcomed, we decided to finish up and pay the bill after we finished eating and moved onto another place.
We arrive at 7:30pm and were promptly seated, the hostess was very pleasant and asked if we had any special occasion and we informed her it was just a casual birthday gettogether for us 2 girls. After that it was downhill, we ordered 2 Bits and 4 Bites to share along with some drinks, but the service was very very slow! The taps came out one by one, with about twenty minutes between dishes, so we were almost running out of conversation by the end. It took until 9:30pm until the last tapas came out and we prompted got the bill after. We were not offered a dessert menu nor was anything mentioned about our birthday celebration, so definitely disappointed!
As a side note, many of the tapas came out with the same bread for side, and also had a very similar tomato sauce on it, We had the eggplant, meatballs, clams and shrimp, and pretty much everything came with bread and a tomatoey sauce (the shrimps were a garlic spicy tomato sauce though) Definitely disappointed in the food as well
It was my wedding anniversary and the staff was excellent and the food phenomenal will recommend this place if you want to look like a rock star to your significant other and impress them - kudos to the team
Server was completely absent, another server was all over a customer at a nearby table and it was very tacky.
Food was a little overpriced and too salty.
We ended up at Portland for Mother's Day brunch as everyone was booked. I was very pleased overall and that we secured the first booking. The service was great and could not have had a better morning there. We will be back again.
Loved it so much the first time and I had to go back!!! Food was awesome, they now have my favourite cocktail!
We felt very rushed by our server. We often had to ask him to repeat what he was saying because he would quickly spit it out while rushing off. He did not make us feel comfortable and definitely discouraged us from going back.
Can wait for the Chef's choice tasting mène to get back
Portions are quite small but the idea is to share tapas. Regardless, the food was delicious!
Super accommodating staff. Great meal overall. Would come back for more!
Very delicious food and prompt service. Our server was very fun and had a great sense of humour!
Good food and service. Took too long to get Bill.
Food is nothing to write home about. Extremely overpriced for portions. There are plenty of better tapas/snack bars in the city. Cocktails were wonderful though.
