The food was a flavour explosion. Everything we (5 guests) had was delicious. Oh the end of the meal treat, homemade chocolates that melt in your mouth.
Good food with adequate portions. Our waitress was attentive and accommodating. The only downside is the pricey wine list.
I have already recommended 'Primal' to friends. The food was really good and the portions were perfect. Nice size of establishment -- cannot beat simple decor. Thank you. We will see you again.

Food was great! Service was good! Due to our age, the noise level made conversation a bit difficult. Will definitely go back!
Amazing server!! He perfectly described menu items and the flavours we would experience. He was laid back and easy to chat with. The food was phenomenal too!! We had the rigatoni and the carrot top pesto spaghetti. By far the best pasta we’ve had in Saskatoon. Also the price was reasonable considering the service and the food we received. We will definitely be coming back!! :)
We just came back from Calgary, Alberta and had enjoyed dining at Ten Foot Henry and Bridgette Bar. These are rated some of the best restaurants in Alberta, if not Canada. They to, serve family style dishes like Primal!
We wanted to continue our dive into family style dining and decided to try out Primal for New Years Eve. We had the set course. I find it odd that the set course is family style, yet each person is charged $65.00. That isn’t family style. Family style is sharing multiple plates and paying per plate. I suppose perhaps you are paying ‘per serving’ however it was incredibly overpriced.
We enjoyed the arugula salad, bread, and the pasta (ravioli oxtail and mushroom tagliatelle alfredo). It was great.
However the Prime Rib course with carrots, potatoes and kale was atrocious. The prime rib’s outer edge was overcooked as if it had been cooked cold to begin. The outer edge was also the only part properly seasoned. The rib roast clearly didn’t have enough salt or pepper to penetrate the large piece of meat. The inner part was bland and flavourless. The carrots were undercooked and again, flavourless. Although the plating doesn’t matter a whole lot, it just looked unappetizing and was not what either of us expected.
We would of had it sent back however as it was prime rib for an NYE set menu, we doubted that they would have anything ready to replace it. For a $200.00 bill, this was the most underwhelming experience I have ever endured.
The only upside to the entire experience was that the service was great and the pasta truly was very good.
Hit or miss, New Year’s Eve dinner started well but the main event was bland, not what I would expect for a $200+ dinner for two. Previous dinners were great, but this one fell flat.
The service was impeccable, the wine was wonderful and the food exceptional.
Thank you helping make our evening great.
This is a fantastic place for authentic Italian food! The appetizers were delicious: bison carpaccio with pickled walnuts and fried artichokes... I could have eaten that all night! I don't think there is a bad item on this menu, try it all and enjoy!
The room was warm, the service quick and the meal was fantastic.
The server was super knowledgeable and helpful and the dish was delicious
Great Homemade Pasta! Delicious appetizers, but the pasta is what will keep me coming back for more. Great work!
Lovely meals. Perfect attention from the waitress.
I attended for my birthday, and service was exceptional. Ambiance and food was even better. Love the staff there and the vibe. Thank you Primal!
Vibes was great, food was better! Lots of hip young ppl out for dinner in a Saturday night. Service staff knew the menu and offered great advice On food and cocktails. If noise bothers you..... find a different restaurant. I have nothing but great things to say and will be back.
The food was excellent!! We had the mushroom Alfredo tagliatelle and the rigatoni and both were fantastic! A bit dark in the restaurant but very quiet and great for conversation. Our sever was very helpful with the menu - lots of Italian words! Super reasonably priced - especially for the quality of food you are getting.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the food was delicious and the wine pairings were perfect.
The server was terrible she forgot drink orders and made others up. A forced gratuity of 20 percent when I have a terrible server is not my idea of a place worth going back to. A table of six should not be considered a difficult task. The food was ok but no so great that I was left thinking about having it ever again.
Hi Leah, On behalf of our team I want to apologize that we provided you with a negative experience. We generally pride ourselves on our service and I am disappointed that we did not live up to that standards that we strive for. I would like to offer you a gift certificate to return to visit another time which is also redeemable at our sister restaurant The Hollows if you would prefer to dine with us there. I will be in touch later this afternoon. Sincerely, Adrian Chappell General Manager
Food and service was great! we all enjoyed our dishes and as usual had my favourite dessert house made spumoni ice cream ❤️
Always great food, fast and informed service, engaging crowd that allowed for networking.
Delicious meal. Friendly, casual atmosphere. Reasonably priced.
Food was delicious, we had fried bread and a minestrone plus the featured appetizer special was fantastic.
I had the puttanesca, others at the table had spaghetti & meatballs, fusilli & cheese and the pork agnolotti.
We would have preferred being seated at a table however we’re for some reason directed to the bar - tables on the side remained mostly empty I fly we were finished white our service.
There is wonderful ambiance at this restaurant however the dim lighting is a major drawback. Very hard to see the menu. Brighter candles on the table would be appreciated.
Great service, amazing food! Loved it.
Excellent food and dining experience. Can’t wait to take some friends to experience it again!

Appetizers and drinks are amazing! Pasta/mains aren't worth it...
Service and ambiance are great!
Everything was great except the lighting. Not easy to read the menus and see your food for the over 65 crowd.
The meal was delicious, each course was exquisite. The Tiramisu at the end was heavenly. Thank you!
Service was warm, friendly and informative, yet a little on the slow side for a slow night.
Great minestrone and fried bread. Our daughter had the pasta Pomodoro, which she loved, and it was perfectly seasoned.
We had the pork scallopini which was underwhelming. Had the menu indicated that it was breaded, we would have chosen something else. Breading was bland, cutlet topped with basically a disjointed salad on top. Nothing really seemed to pull this dish together. The only bright spot of flavour was the occasional bit of fresh orange. There are so many better ways to prepare scallopini...
Shared the sour cherry cheesecake and lemon cream for dessert. Lovely way to end the meal.
Our food was good tasting, but some of the portions seemed fairly small for the price. My meal was a fair portion, but my boyfriend devoured his and actually got a fast food meal on the way home. The service was very good and it was a nice, quiet place for a date night.
Squash risotto was delicious but too salty, whereas the mushroom tagliatelle was bland.
It’s pretty dark in the table seating, very hard to read the menu.
We enjoyed everything we ordered from the starters - dessert!
We tried the oysters, white fish, pork scallopini, mushroom fettuccine, lemon meringue, and the italian coffee. Would recommend all ....
This was our second visit, with another couple that had never been there before. Our first time was for our daughter’s birthday & we were thoroughly impressed then.
The house made fried bread, the greens & olive oil, plus the caponata with bread appetizers were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The mains of Whitefish & lemon risotto, spaghetti carbonara, spaghetti & meatballs, plus my pork cotechino sausage were all excellent, as was my side of meatballs, the true test of any Italian restaurant!!! I’d had the spaghetti & meatballs the first time, was going to have it again, but opted to try something new, and I wasn’t disappointed.
The desserts of tiramisu & a lemon inspired dessert, the name of which escapes me, were delightful! The Verona drink special, my Nokomis pint of beer & the bottle of Starsa Aglianico full bodied red wine were a real treat as well.
Overall, highly recommended! We’re already looking forward to going back in the near future! The only minor drawback is the noise in the restaurant, makes conversation a little difficult.
Nice little spot, the service is great and friendly. Food was just ok. Spaghetti and meatball are excellent. The other two meals that we had were lacking in flavour. Fry bread was nice just wanted more. Don’t order the garlic toast side it was really tiny and cost 4 bucks, just have more fry bread. The meals are not large, still hungry afterwards. The price a bit high compared to portion size. Homemade pasta was excellent just needed a bit more flavour in the sauce or toppings. I would return for the spaghetti and meatballs and fry bread. It’s nice they use local Ingredients, probably why it’s a bit pricey, you would think it would be a little less cost when it comes from your back yard.
This place is amazing.
The pasta is exquisite- I tried the home-made ricotta ravioli, and could not recommend more. Our server was simply lovely- so kind, and knowledgeable, and just so accommodating. The venue's ambiance is great, quiet but not too quiet (great for a conversation), beautiful modern decor, and very comfortable. The semi-fredo dessert is also a must-try.
I have nothing negative to say. Come hungry.
The service was excellent! Our server was super attentive and personable. She made the experience lovely, the food was mediocre.
The food was fantastic! Amazing flavors that you will not find anywhere else in Saskatoon. Try it out, you won’t be sorry!
Had a pretty-concert dinner with a friend, seated at the bar. As this our first time to Primal, we had no pre-conceived notions. The bar seating was comfortable and casual, although we were only 2 of 4 people seated there.
We had the smoked olives to start and Oysters Rockefeller which were delicious.
My friend had the Rigatoni with and I had the White Fish and Risotto. Aperol Spritz and lattes rounded out our meal.
Service was impeccable, warm and friendly. A lively place, would have loved to linger a bit longer but time did not permit.
We will definitely be back!
We were there early, so it was quiet. Therefore, easy to visit around the table, food came quickly and together.
I found the place to be warm and inviting. I liked the communal table and the limited seating. The food was excellent.
Food was fantastic, fresh, and extremely quick. Will definitely visit again.
