I ordered the curated menu. It started off well enough with two balanced, creative seafood starters that tempted my palate, but the rest of the meal fell short. An uncomfortably long wait time later, I was served an underwhelming masa course resembled a nacho with undercooked chorizo. The two fire-kissed vegetable dishes of mushrooms and cabbage failed to impress me. Lacking in diverse textures and flavours, I wasn't too fond of charred cabbage coated in sauce and mushrooms paired with a barely noticeable crema poblana. The main dish of octopus was tender as it gets, but the dominant flavour was of smoke, and not particularly pleasant. I was hoping for more textural diversity or tastes, perhaps more sweetness or acidity. The dessert was painfully rudimentary. A spoonful of hibiscus-flavoured cream studded with mint next to grilled pineapple is not at the echelon of complexity and inventiveness for a Michelin-starred restaurant. Perhaps it was an off day, but I'm disappointed for my first Michelin-starred restaurant experience. All the fire in the kitchen can't compensate for high-level cookery that misses the finer details.

We have been to Quetzal several times over the last few years and we and our friends have raved about it. This time we went to check out Quetzal because of their Michelin star award. We chose the Chef's menu as usual. Hard to believe but the flavours were even more exquisite. The service was outstanding. Thanks Michelin for finally recognizing what we knew all along, "Quetzal, a very special place". Thanks Matt, Camila, Emily, Petra and many others that made it an extra special experience.

We got a recommendation by an amazing server at another restaurant to check this place out and we are SO happy we did. We sat at the chefs bar (Fire Bar) with a perfect view of all the action and the amazing cooking methods they utilize. Coat check was seamless. We were seated promptly. Waited a little while before anyone came to us for drinks but I think a number of big tables had just been sat before we arrived so very understandable. The food is where this place shined brighter than words can express. Each dish was very unique and true to the cuisine they were representing. Each ingredient in each dish maintained their individuality letting themselves be known all while coming together to create a unified and unique culture expressing itself to your pallet. All masa dishes were phenomenal with corn imported from Mexico nixtamalized and ground in house. The ceviche was an all time favourite of our group and the endive dip was so refreshing and complex. We also indulged in non alcoholic cocktails and unlike many places they take pride in these cocktails making sure you have a very flavourful and unique experience as well. Overall I will be coming back many more times when life allows for it and I recommend you check it out too.

So good! My friend and I did the tasting menu for $95. It was definitely an experience. I didn't love the queiso masa and the mushrooms but the rest did not disappoint. Staff were lovely and the restaurant is beautiful.

We did not find this the "Michelin Star" experience that we expected. Uncomfortable seating, inattentive service, food was uneven. Some dishes were very good (mushrooms & generally the sauces) but the steak was tough and we sent it back. Grilled fish was just average and kale served with it was inedible. In our opinion, just an average place overall.
