Rare Grill House
But it doesn’t just end at steak... Rare is all about great food. Our ingredients are simple and fresh with numerous local choices. Combine that with our warm atmosphere and comfortable service, and you have the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two or a fun night out with a group of friends.
Highly recommended! The food is always spectacular here, as is the service, and the ambiance is almost perfect (they just need to dim the lights a bit). Try the bone marrow. Seriously. It's incredible.
Rare is our favourite restaurant. Every time we dine there we receive excellent service and eat the most amazing meal! I always get the same thing every time but always try the app or new side because the chef is a genius and comes up with delicious and creative recipes. We dream about our dinner for like a week after we eat there ☺️
The best steal have ever had. Side dishes are great as well and very creative. Truly the best restaurant in Peterborough
The food was good and beautifully presented, however, the service was slow although quite professionally done. Overall an acceptable evening.
We went for our Anniversary dinner and once again just like every time before, they did not disappoint! Every aspect was excellent! From my cocktail to start, to the delicious and rich appetizer, to the main course and wonderful dessert...truly amazing! Attentive service, explained the menu and amazing dinner again!
It was nice having daily specials to choose from also. We loved our rabbit foie gras appetizer.
Chef Tyler Scott is an absolute gem. He used us as guinea pigs for a vegan chocolate mousse that was so delicious it almost led to fisticuffs and bloodshed at our table. And none of us are vegan.
Easily the best restaurant in Peterborough. (not just for steaks)
The food was and is always amazing, the service wonderful. My steak was cooked to perfection and the braised beef cheek was delicious. The chicken liver mousse appetizer was so yummy we could have licked the jar clean - they should add this to their regular appetizer list! Would also love if Rare can add their grilled liver to the regular menu and if they can bring back their special offal day.
Lovely restaurant to enjoy a quiet meal with family. The service was great. The birthday candles on the desserts were a nice touch.
Great food with professional and knowledgeable service. They always have a new flavour or dish to try...and it’s always delicious.
Restaurant was good. Enjoyed being able to hear each other speak. Service was excellant. Food was only ok. The duck special was good but the sweet paste and truffle smoked cheddar competed with each other and took away from the duck. The asparagus soup was way to salty. I got the filet which was really good. The au gratin potatoes were almost black though. My husband got the pork chop and it was way too fatty, almost couldnt find the meat.
I would try it again but hope the food improves for price you pay.
Great server, great food! Can’t wait to see what they have on the menu next visit.
Need to stock some popular domestic beer not just micro brewery
Katie was fantastic! Food was amazing, very nice first impression
Great food and friendly staff. Was a great Valentine's dinner date.
We went for Valentine's Day. The restaurant was amazing!
They catered to my gluten intolerance by whipping up a delicious chocolate mousse for my dessert! Loved that extra touch.
Unfortunately the only good part about the 200 meal was the small piece of beef tenderloin.... the Cesar salad was fair except the teeth shattering croutons the baby bok chow was soggy the garlic mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant and very watery with no flavor at all the chocolate cake was the driest cake I have ever tasted it was down right terrible. The trifle was ok I wouldn’t order it again if it was offered.
I was trying my best to convince my partner to eat at Rare, as I have had a few very delicious meals there and it is local, we don’t mind paying for a good meal but this turned him off It will be very hard him there again.
Probably Peterboroughs finest dining establishment that specializes in gourmet meals especially non vegetarian if that's what you are after. Meats cooked to perfection exactly as you like and wonderful side dishes as well. Although their prices aren't designed for the budget conscious , the atmosphere and pleasant staff make up for it.
We loved the atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant. Service was spectacular and the food was awesome. It's been long time since we've spent over 2 hours in a restaurant enjoying what the have to offer. It's a little on the pricey side but well worth it.
A great experience and wonderful meal. Our waitress was kind and remembered us from our last visit. Service was prompt and the food was delicious!
Excellent food that is some of the best I have had in it's class.
The food was incredible as always; the service was knowledgeable, timely and friendly, Chef Tyler Scott even brought us a tasting of tomorrow’s special.
We went because it was my husbands birthday. Rare is hands down his favourite restaurant. They have new chairs!!! The chairs are much more comfortable and make the dinning area appear more open. The food was amazing as usual / service was awesome as usual - I only put in the reservation about the birthday and my hubby received his dessert with a candle! Awesome job Rare - you deserve this 5/5.
Hands-down our favourite restaurant in Peterborough. In true Rare fashion, every single item on the menu is mouth-watering and amazing. Anya is amazing and always makes us feel welcome. Nothing compares!
Rare Grill is ... rare among Peterborough restaurants, providing an experience that doesn't rely as much on style as it does on substance. The service is attentive without pandering. The food is extremely good and served in North American proportions, not continental. Rare isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for at this restaurant!
We had the 12oz ribeye, asked for rare with a bit of char, and the staff knew exactly how to communicate this to the kitchen and execute it with tender results. (ask them to go light or leave off the drizzle if you want to experience the high-quality beef on its own merits). The beavertail dessert takes a Canadian outdoor winter classic and makes it perfectly at home in a fancy restaurant.
Overall, highly recommended!
I had heard about Rare but had never had the opportunity to visit before this. We were delighted. We began our meal with a glass of Cabernet house wine, my husband had the Creemore Ale on tap. We were both pleased with our choice. We are not big drinkers. We were all sharing the appetizers of escargot and a delightful beet, goat cheese and arugula salad. The escargot was a bit disappointing as we didn't find them very flavourful - I expected more pungent garlicky salty butter. There was just a hint of garlic, so if you don't like too much garlic, I am guessing my you might enjoy this more than we did. The salad was an exceptional combination of colour, crunch and texture. My husband ordered the hamburger which at $24 was extremely expensive however, he could not stop talking about it. It was the best burger he has ever had, he kept saying afterwards. It was a generous portion (huge actually) and the spicing was delicious. My friend and I shared the rib steak medium which was served over a bed of garlicky mashed potatoes and asparagus draped over the top. The meat was exceptional and the chef prepared it perfectly. We would have loved to have enjoyed coffee and dessert but we had no room in our very full and happy bellies. The bill came in at just under $120 for three which was really good value. Definitely a worthwhile experience. We will be returning! Thank you for our wonderful server, Anya and the Chef!
Food and service excellent as always.
One of our favorites. A bit pricey but food is always excellent.
Have seen previous reviews complaining about state of leather chairs but ours and all we could see were excellent. May have replaced all if them.
Very good food but it was extremely loud around us. Because of this I won’t recommend or go back. I brought friends from out of town and we had a hard time conversing. Too bad because the food was very good. Perhaps you need absorption with surfaces.... pictures on walls, carpeting, dividers, etc....
The food was very good and done to the right temperature/texture. The flavours were very clean and tasty, if not a little on the traditional steak house palette. Unfortunately, we arrived to a room full of body odour from another guest, causing a discomfort within our group. The waitress handled it the best she could. Hats off to her! Overall, I think Rare is a strong 4.5/5 and is a good bet for a nice evening out.
Overall nice restaurant good food and excellent service. Food was good but somewhat overpriced I would say. Chairs need to be replaced - material very worn and falling apart for such a high end restaurant takes away from the ambiance of the restaurant overall.
Great service and an exceptional meal. 55 day dry aged ribeye steak. Can't get something as excellent as that just anywhere. Excellent soup as a starter but had to take the smores desert home.
Had another delicious meal at Rare, celebrating a friend’s birthday. Our server, who is also the owner was outstanding. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Excellent steak! Apps and dessert were great too. Service was top notch. Will definately be back.
We enjoyed this meal & atmosphere very much! The food was some quite different as well as the
usuals. We have already recommended it but will continue to. It was a first for us but definitly
not the last. It was a perfect night!
Although the food was great, the restaurant was in a shabby state. The leather was peeling off the chairs (hated to sit on them) and the tabletops were not great. Table linens might have helped the ambiance. When you spend over $100 for 2 people, you expect the furniture to be in good condition. Whatever tenants lived above the restaurant made it sound like there was a dance studio going on - lots of stomping. Overall, the experience was disappointing. We expected first class dining - not just with respect to the food, but also with respect to the ambiance.
Family birthday dinner for my daughter. We were greeted when we came in. Offered to take our coats. All was very good. Waitress was nice and pleasant.
The service and the food were absolutely spectacular. We all ordered the special features for both appetizer and main course and they were all excellent. The chef does a wonderful job using all local fresh ingredients into something very special.
It was a one hour drive for us that evening and it was well worth it. The restaurant was easy to find and had plenty of parking.
We liked the decor, lighting and comfortable seating. The restaurant and rest rooms were immaculate.
Our server was friendly and knowledgeable of the wines and the food.
And the food.....delicious! We highly recommend... chef Tyler Scott is extremely talented!
