We had an amazing experience at Renoir. Our waiter was the best. Thank you Derek for being attentive and going above & beyond. I would definitely recommend.
Our overall experience was underwhelming.
First the goods:
- The interior and the terrasse are well designed, not too chic, not too modern, not too old school, perfect balance where anybody would feel good.
- The atmosphere was nice, overall quiet and a couple of laughs here and there, people are here to enjoy their time while respecting others.
- The staff was very nice and you feel welcome.
Annnnd now the bads…
Disclaimer: I’m french, and used to high-end french restaurant et classy/fancy places, as well as smaller gourmet restaurants. I think I’ve pretty much seen it all in terms of french restaurants.
- The food was good, but definitely not gourmet. You’ll likely be happy with the food but you’d expect a lot more from a place like this.
- While the service was good, our waiter was reading his notes while explaining to us the menu. Again, not a deal breaker, but I’m used to the best waiters in this kind of restaurants. Those who know the menu by heart, can advise on which alcohol to go with what course, etc.
- The price. To me this is totally overpriced. We paid around 230$ tip and taxes included for 1 champagne glass, 2 foie gras entrées, and 2 main courses. If I’m trying to estimate how much I think it was worth, I would say around 150 to 170$ tip and taxes included.
- The lack of refinement in the food dressing. There was almost no dressing. It’s just food in your plate, like you’d do at home everyday. Plus the portion size was huge. We laughed at the portions saying those were “american size”, it doesn’t fit with that type of french restaurant.
So overall, while everything ok, nothing is amazing (apart from the place and atmosphere), and it’s nowhere near a real high-end french restaurant.
Sadly, we will probably never go back and stick with better alternatives.
Excellent restaurant. Everything is always great.
Always a delightful experience. Great for meeting clients and dining with family or friends.
Great as always. There is always a great energy and the food is fantastic.
Beautifully plated food though small servings and not price friendly but worth the experience! Service was excellent. The valet parking was an added bonus
Overall, I was disappointed by the experience at Renoir.
I was looking forward to try the Sunday brunch but I had to wait for so long because of the covid. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth the wait...
First, the quality of the dishes was medium. The first service was okay, we tried the crepe and the omelette but the cheese was missing on the omelette..
Then, the second service was the most disappointing to me. The mozzarella & mushroom toast had no taste. Same for the yellowfin tuna. It was missing seasoning like it was just cooked raw on a pan. Honestly, it felt like I could do it myself (and I'm not a good cook). The mushrooms were bland, the bread and the tuna as well.
There are many restaurants half of the price that could do better. Just try the same mushroom toast at Reservoir.
Hopefully, the third service is what you would expect from a nice restaurant. There everything was good, the ratatouille, the salmon, the beef, the puree. I don't understand how they can mess up the second service knowing what they are capable of for the third one.
Finally, I wouldn't rate the fourth service because it was so LONG. After 2 hours and 40 min, we were still not served the last service. We had an appointment and had to leave. But really, only 3/4 services after 2h40? Also the wait between the 1st and 2nd service was terrible (40-45min).
And the plates were just served on our table. No one asked if everything was okay, the plates were not described when served.
Well, I won't spend any dollar at Renoir anymore.
FOOD WAS EXTREMELY GOOD AND TESTY !!
But SERVICE very very bad , not enough staff I guess.
Was ok but expensive for what it is. Service was too friendly.
excellent food very good service
great wine list,reasonable prices
Excellent service et plats parfaits.
I don't think to come back at this restaurant. It was expensive for what I ate. In addition, the taste of food was so so, by example the fois gras had no taste.
Cute enclosed terrasse in the heart of downtown. Good wine selection and tasty food, but not a lot of bar or 5a7 options.
Excellent food and service! My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and had the 5-course menu. Absolutely fabulous!
Great service but the food didn’t meet my expectations.
The food is delicious. We definitely recommend!
The service was quite slow (about 2h30 for the 5 dishes meal).
Sunday Brunch at Le Renoir is simply marvelous! One of the best in Montreal.
Pre-covid, it consisted of a magnificent buffet offering. Now, one can choose either 3 or 4 courses featuring a plethora of beautifully-prepared, delectable dishes. A little pricey, but well worth it!
Service is stellar!
Nourriture haut de gamme. Service de qualité. Nous étions sur la terrasse. Ambiance agréable. Décor accueillant et éclairage feutré. Vraiment magique pour un repas en soirée.
Staff very attentive. Menu selection/value proposition rather sparse. lf you enjoy noisy traffic and fire trucks wheezing by on Sherbrooke, you’ll love the terrasse!
The Seabass was way too salty and the second portion of Seabass was actually partially raw… The chicken was all right but definitely not commensurate with the restaurants or the price… They always were fresh and good and the desserts were the highlight for sure
Very nice experience. Classy place with great service
I really liked the lobster risotto 😋 the waiter was very professional.
Le Renoir is excellent. Unfortunately, while I had asked Open Table for outside seating, the restaurant did not have that information. The outside patio was full and we had to sit indoors. No fault of Le Renoir, as best I can ascertain.
Service and food were amazing!
I think the menu has not much choice if you don't like sea food. It took a long time for me to get someone to serve me. Personally I wouldn't go back.
Good food! Staff was polite and friendly, would recommend.
Pleasant and would love to visit again. Staff was friendly n food was top!
Menu varié , plats copieux bien présentés et délicieux
Bonne qualité prix
Excellent restaurant, with limited menu during COVID. Tables well spaced
The food was great - plating and flavour and cuisson! Our server Michael was stellar - attention to detail, changing our utensils, offering dessert even after the kitchen staff left - a real friendly one-man show.
Unfortunately the way we had to leave left a sour taste in our mouths. We asked to move closer to the building or inside because the temperature dropped and the wind picked up in the last hour we were there. Michael offered us a seat inside - to which we were then pushed to the lobby of the Sofiel by another even before we were shown a table inside. We were then kicked out of the lobby after 5 minutes - stating it was government rules. This was at 11:15 pm.
After paying a 500$ bill, this was insulting. Moreover, I work in restauration and know the current rules quite well; alcohol stops at 11pm and all dining must close at midnight. At 11:15pm, we were well within the rules to continue staying at a table and enjoy our coffees before parting.
Overall - hats off the both chefs and Michael for their hospitality, but very disappointing to be treated with dismissal just to close up earlier.
Food is amazing and surprisingly large meal sizes for a French restaurant. The music was loud outside and a little offputting but incredible friendly service!
